Neymar

He's a young Michael Owen with good technical ability so i'm told. Personally, i don't think he'll ever reach Messi/Ronaldo heights. Mind you, i thought Pete Sampras could never be surpassed. :nervous:

It didn't look that bad on replay. I'm surprised he is that badly hurt.

It's what happens when you play a contact sport with as much muscle mass as a 12 year old anorexic girl.

Seemed a bit rich when Big Phil was moaning about Neymar getting kicked out of the game, when it was clear his team were instructed to utterly monster Rodriguez anytime he got the ball

Shame he's out really. He's provided some nice moments for Brazil who are otherwise lacking a bit of flair.

On the BBC website - Brazilian Ronaldo on the Neymar injury:
"We could see on TV there was intention by the Colombia player to actually cause some harm," said Ronaldo.
"I didn't like that very high knee so that leads me to believe it was a foul with intention to actually cause harm... I thought it was a highly violent and unlawful move by the Colombia player. We are fearful and sad for the loss of our player...I don't think it was a normal football play. I do believe it was aggressive...I don't know whether he had planned this beforehand but I do believe it was very aggressive, very violent."

Napoli defender Zuniga, 28, said after the match: "I never meant to hurt a player. It was a normal move...
I was playing for the shirt from my country, not with the intent to injure. I was just defending my shirt."

Fails to mention the continual attacks against Rodriguez that went unpunished. Cry me a river.

Don't like Brazil this World Cup and I really don't want them to win it, but it's not nice seeing their best player out of it completely. If they make the final now, let alone win it, it'll be quite something without Neymar and Silva.

How is any of that his fault? When you see posts like karma is a bitch, it means you are attributing the blame for that on him. Was he fouling players on the half way line?

The "karma's a bitch" line was aimed at the Brazilian team. When you spend the whole game kicking feck out of all the opposition's most creative players, it's hard to feel sorry for them when their own golden boy gets injured. They created an atmosphere where reckless and violent challenges became the norm. Tough shit if that backfires on them.

I can't fecking stand Neymar, fat Ronaldo or Brazil. Boring team who can feck off.

Watching the incident in slow mo. It was more a clumsy tackle than a malicious one. ref actually waved play on. Surprising it ended up with such a serious injury.

I wouldn't consider it a serious injury. Notice that there is no treatment required... it's just painful and heals on its own. He probably could play with painkillers.

It sounds worse than it is. "Broken back". Not really. A small bone hanging off the side of a much larger and more important bone was cracked. You can't compare this to the kind of crushed vertebral injury you would see in a car crash or serious trauma.

The injury is at the lower back (L3 vertebra). Your lower back is one of the weight bearing region of your spine. The spinal muscle, a core muscle, attached at this region helps you in simple term to do anything standing erect.

Judging by the impact, I'd guess its a hairline fracture of the spinal process (the part you can feel at the back). The injury is not serious but it will require period of immobilization or just rest with no further treatment.

Football being the type of sport it is, Neymar will not be fit enough if the injury is true. It will not be a wise decision to put him through the running, jumping, twisting and ofc the challenges and the subsequent falls.

The worry is that the strong contraction of the spinal muscles may displace the fracture. The subsequent bodily recovery process may ossify the surrounding tissues (muscles, ligaments etc) causing stiff back in the future.

Well boring wins the World Cup apparently. How many times has Brazil won ?
1994 aside, Brazil's teams have all been exciting. I mean it's actually quite sad that they have the likes of Hulk, Fred and Jo up front. Ireland probably have better strikers!

I love watching them play and 1994 was actually the first time I was able to watch the world cup. It's the same year I started following football more seriously.

That'd be a huge disgrace IMO.

He should be allowed to take rest rather than potentially damaging his career. World Cup in brazil is big, but if Brazil can beat Germany without Neymar, then surely they can also beat the finalist without him.

So they were lying about the fracture? No way you could play with a fractured vertebrate I would think.
There is an x ray of the fracture. I did read they said 2-6 weeks recovery for it at the time and i mentioned on one of these threads that i bet he might make a miraculous recovery if Brazil made the final.

If he plays when it all goes horribly wrong there's going to be massive fallout. I read on twitter that the Brazilian football federation's doctor is adamant he isn't playing, I'm sure that's because the federation want no liability if it all goes belly up. If Neymar plays on painkillers and ends up getting clattered at a corner, or takes a tackle and falls wrong, someone is going to end up in court.

The blame for that has to lie with the referee. Not brazil, he is the one tasked with making sure the play goes on in a fair manner.

He wont be playing with a fractured back, if anything happened to him Barcelona would sue the Brazilian FA into the stone age and then some.

94 were great to watch until the final

Exactly - all this talk about Brazil made this happen and it's just-desserts is nonsense. If the referee can't officiate in an unbiased fashion it's hardly Brazil's fault.

This is why I dont feel too sorry for Brazil. They're one of the teams with the most fouls - I hope Germany wins

Nah ya want the dutch the win it simply because LVG is there and theyve probably been one of the most entertaining teams in the tournie even if the majority of their squad is shite (ish). The Germans can piss off with their nose picking cnut of a manager.

Of course the referee is to complain for the thuggery getting out of hand.

This doesn't alter the fact that Brazil chose to turn the contest into a physical, aggressive game where flair players were repeatedly fouled. The type of game in which skinny, skilful players were likely to get injured.

Lo and behold...

One of the biggests draws to the dream Brazil/Argentina final was Neymar Vs Messi. Shame he's out the tournament. It'll take some effort to get past a very efficient German side.

how did he miss that

Its happened all the great goal scorers at some point, its easier happen than you think, its even happened people a yard or too closer. They try side foot it in but the ball bounces and catches the top of the boot. One thing I never understood is why they don't just play it safe in those positions and drive their laces through the ball.
