Gaming Nintendo Switch

So a week in.. and I love my switch. I've played it a silly amount considering the spare time I've had (including far too many day in 4 hours sleep).

I've taught my 3 year old to play Mario kart - he even won a race (on 50cc, all assists on etc.. but still.. not bad for a kid I can't teach that bogeys aren't a food group.

Odyssey is fantastic too, and the rabbids game isn't my normal type of game at all, but I'm enjoying at one when playing undocked. That and rocket league!

I've not even looked at Zelda yet..

Well done Nintendo.
 
Put a few more hours into my Switch since Christmas day.

I have to say that I'm enjoying Mario Odyssey more than Zelda at the moment. That's not to say that Zelda is bad - far from it - but Odyssey is just so damn fun to play. I'm having a blast with it.

I'm just aimlessly walking around in Zelda right now. I realise that's me and not the games fault, but I'm not sure what the hell I'm really supposed to be doing sometimes!

The world is great and I'm sure i'll warm to it though.

Put an alert on the HotUKDeals app so it notifies you whenever theres a Switch deal. Really easy to do and could snatch a great short lived deal.
 
Take it with a grain of salt but Amazon messed up and listed 18 unannounced Switch games to be unveiled at January’s Nintendo Direct.

They’re all placeholder boxes at the moment with different prices and ‘just announced at the Direct event’ under each one.
 
I bought one a couple of months ago and I adore it. I’ve got Zelda and Mario Odyssey so far, what are some other good games?

Even if there are 18 games announced I suspect that they'd be indie titles mostly.
 
Yeah, it's cheesy, but it's simple and memorable too.

Edit: Not that memorable though maybe, since I forgot to use it.
 
loving Zelda but the map feels massive. feel like I've spent hours walking relatively aimlessly just trying to find shrines as I go.

I feel pretty under armoured / unequipped from a weapon perspective to unlock the divine beasts, but other than trying to just open up the map, I think that's what u should be doing...?

Get those towers unlocked. You will never completely avoid the element of exploring but the towers at least let you glide closer towards where you want to go (you obviously need to know where you are going as well).

If you are just wandering aimlessly just looking for stuff... then that is half the fun in the game! You could also get a horse to speed things up though.

I'd admit that the climbing can be tedious sometimes, especially when you need to get so,where pretty high up and it's bloody raining!

where do you get a horse? imagine I need some extra rupees too. I've probably got about 1000 but was going to use some most of that for some of the stealth armour.

Unlikely if they’re on amazon they only sell boxed copies. I very much doubt they’re gonna announce 18 games anyway it’s probably some mistake.

Putting horses in stables cost way less, don't worry.
You'll find some horses if you glide down the great plateau and to the left. Run further left once a horse is tamed to find a stable.

I don't know any specific spots but they are everywhere. You just need to tame it and register it at a stable (can't remember how much this costs, never really bothered with horses myself) and it's yours to keep.
 
I didn't use a horse during my play through. It really isn't necessary. And like most games, the horse controls sucked.

My friend said the controls get better as the horse becomes more tame.
First thing I did once i got down was to get a horse, take it to the stables and rode it to the village I was supposed to go to. But fast figured out I couldn't just magically call it like in Ocarina of Time, which kinda sucked (though i know one of the DLC items is supposed to make the horse warp to your location making it possible to use it "properly").
 
For someone not likely to get much use out of the portable aspect of the switch, would the cat still recommend one? Lots of good PS4 titles coming out in 2018, but the allure of Zelda is difficult to dismiss...

If you didn't have a Wii U then I think the console looks a great bet if you're a fan of Nintendo first party games.

Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart and Splatoon are 4 great games.
 
I am not the biggest Nintendo fan or gamer at all, but i think the Switch is great fun, especially for casual gamers like myself. A lot of games that i like, but no time and money to try them all out.

I only play Sports games on the PS4 nowadays, the rest (more fun and family games) on the switch. I think thats a good combo. I didnt think the games would be that fun, but they are. Especially Splatoon, which i bought as my second game, is still a game i play more or less regularly due to the fun factor

Yep, haven’t owned any Nintendo since the 64. The cost is a bit off putting though... Zelda aside, are the games you listed substantial? I’m worried, like some have mentioned, that I may be sinking a few hundred basically solely for Zelda, which seems excessive

Read through this thread and research the games yourself on google.

There's not a lot anyone can say to you other than that. But no, it's completely wrong to think it's just Zelda or those three games Alock listed (which as he says are all great anyway).

I’ve had the Switch for a week and I’m loving it. I don’t have much time to play games recently, so the freedom the switch offers is pretty huge for me.
 
Maxed out leveling, maxed out trust with my main-blade. Rekt a few superbosses and have opened up for max affinity with all blades apart from Ursula who lacks the last ring, use her a lot so haven't bothered going for the last bit.

What's your playtime like @Ødegaard? Just hit the 80 hour mark and just reached the cutscene at
the World Tree where Indol attack Jin and Malos' ship
Mind you have done every sidequest I can so far and spent a good few hours grinding out salvage while watching TV over Christmas so I'm probably well behind where I could/should be :lol:

You're close to the end then. :)
I'm between 155 and 160 hours now, started hitting down the superbosses. Think I have Ophion, Gladiator Orion & Tyrannotitan left. And a few quests that are half-way done. After that I should be at 100% (of the content, would still have some affinity and max-trust stuff for blades but that's not important once all content is done with), but seems power-wise and equipment-wise that I should be able to do them all fairly easily.

Excellent stuff. For all its flaws this might be my favourite game of last year, just scratches that itch I've had since FFX on PS2 in terms of a big open RPG (granted FFX is initally fairly linear).
