Just on BBC. No words on casualties or survivors yet. They were traveling for a Copa Sudamericana final to Medelin, plane crashed while it was approaching the airport.

Reports now say there may have been survivors.

So sad. I just hope its not as bad as you'd expect in this kind of situation.

First headlines from American press was:

Plane carrying 81 passengers and crew, including Brazilian soccer team, crashes in Colombia

My heart immediately sank due to the ambiguity of that headline. Still a crying shame, good luck to the club to try to recover from this tragedy. My thoughts are w/ them for obvious reasons.

72 passengers and 9 crew on the plane. Plane did not explode and hanged of survivors increases.

2 deaths seem to be confirmed already.

A player called Alan Ruschel appears to have been rushed to hospital already too.

The closest thing that I remember was 1979 Pakhtakor FC plane crash and it took a while for city of Tashkent to recover and get a new team in.

RIP, really sad.

Shocking news, praying for all involved.

Authorities are responding to an emergency after a plane with 72 people on board crashed on its way to Medellin international airport in Colombia.

Local media reported that the charter aircraft was carrying members of the football team Chapecoense from Brazil, which is scheduled to play Copa Sudamerica finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.

Medellin’s Mayor Federico Gutierrez said that it is possible there are survivors.

“It’s a tragedy of huge proportions,” Gutierrez told Blu Radio on his way to the site in a mountainous area outside the city where the chartered aircraft is believed to have crashed shortly before midnight local time.

He said ambulances and rescuers were on their way. It is not clear what caused the crash.

Medellin airport later confirmed that the aircraft, which departed from Bolivia, was transporting the Chapecoense soccer team from southern Brazil. (Guardian.com)

So they were heading to play the 2nd leg of their Europa League equivalent? :(

Reddit saying lots of survivors

Reddit now only saying there are a few survivors :( :( :(

Wait, there's a plane crash involving a football team and you don't immediately think of Manchester United?

Absolutely horrific, there seem to be quite a few conflicting reports about survivors so far.

5 confirmed survivors:

Alan Ruschel (DF)
Danilo (GK)
Jakson Follmann (GK)
Ximena Sánchez (air hostess )
Rafael Hezel (journalist)

Also I heard on a Colombian radio they have confirmed 25 bodies found.

Terrible news. Rescue effort called off for now due to bad weather.

The plane that crashed was thee plane that Argentina flew on a fortnight ago, too.

Turned on my sky news app this morning and headline flashes that Brazil team plane has crashed. I dont want to sound like this was Any less tragic, but my immidiate thought was Brazil national team. Such a clickbait headline

The rescue has been suspended because there is no hope of more survivors. 6 survivors and 75 dead said a director general José Acevedo Ossa, of the Antioquia Police Department to a Colombian radio.

Might have been my tired state - but the BBC and Guardian headlines were designed to read as that IMO.

Horrible tragedy though.

Horrible new

They've been shameless clickbaiting the feck out of this. Even BBC, which originally had 'Brazil football team in Colombia plane crash'.

Terrible news!

RIP to all who have tragically lost their lives and best wishes to those still fighting for theirs.

Sad news. With all the things happening in this world, this is not what we want to happen. RIP. Hearts and thoughts goes to the families and those who survives.

Jeez...what a tragedy. I flew into Medellin two months ago and the ride was bumpy as feck. RIP.
