Thing is though with another (dare I say better?) manager, we could be on a treble by now instead of being a distant second in the league and only taking Mickey Mouse titles.
We wouldn't have beaten City to the league with any other manager on this planet this year.

Mata is another player who has been given the bum's rush by Mourinho. Despite him being smaller I would choose him before Matic nearly every time. He is intelligent and works hard, and we already have a tall midfielder in Pogba. I can see Mourinho getting rid of Mata which I believe would be a mistake.

What? You'd choose Mata before Matic every time? They don't play the same, or even similar positions.

Why should anyone pay to watch this dross? It's supposed to be a form of entertainment, not a sleeping pill.

It's not quite as dull as lvg yet. But 75%. I want Jose to get a new attacking coach next season. Ideally one called Michael.

Unfortunately this post sums us up nowadays.

United used to be box office can’t miss football. People would rather do other things than watch us play.

All the young kids are gonna end up being city / Liverpool fans unless we do something to sort this boring crap out.

To be fair, it's the first game I've missed (where I had the opportunity to watch it) where I skipped it. But ya, it's almost a chore to watch us at times. Especially the past 3-4 games.

As for the bold part. That's exactly true. There are worst teams in Europe playing much better football than us who have half or less our budget.

However crap we are, I am not looking forward for a summer of no football. Always get bored

Same here.
And I have no interest in Internationals. I saw clips of some the International games a few weeks back and the standard was so poor. A Championship side would've pummelled those National sides into oblivion. Perhaps those players will play harder in the WC, but in any case, England won't do well and they are the only team I'd support.

Just finished watching the game. So so boring. We’re on our holidays already. Will be pleasantly surprised if we show up for the cup final.

Once again, the Mourinho hater had their day again. Just beware of our priorities before the FA final

1. Need a point to finish 2nd. Not critically important but hate to lose momentum for the FA final as well as next season. Liverpool fans will be sweating this Sunday.

2. We need a clean sheet for DDG's sake. Winning 7-1 won't help.

3. No major injury, and some rotation perhaps for the Sunday game. So whoever played yesterday may rest on Sunday. What is the big deal here if we could not score 5 goals?

4. Test out non-Lukaku formation. We have 1 more game to work it out and hopefully Lukaku should be back next week.

Did Pogba even make contact on Noble? He fouled Kouyate and then tried to foul Noble, but I thought he missed and it was our other player (Herrera perhaps?) who was actually the one who got him.
it looked tome like he did

Grinding out a draw against West ham will give us momentum?

WTF is this post. Are these reasons to celebrate. We are Manchester United. The biggest club in the world. Are you celebrating finishing 2nd? and a clean sheet for De Gea. We need a serious rain check. This season has been a failure regardless whether we win the FA cup or not. The performance in the Champions League was disgraceful and the performances against the bottom teams has been disrespectful

You know this how exactly...?

You think that our squad is capable of breaking EPL records? Because that's what it would've taken.
So, better than the team which contained Becks, Cole, Yorke, Giggs. Better than the team which had Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez. And of course now, the MCFC team.
You seriously think that this squad, under a different manager would've beaten all the teams above?

utter rubbish.
I hate the phrase Mickey Mouse titles , they still have to be won, its not like it was easy.
OK so we have not won the PL or the CL , but why belittle a trophy that has been worked hard for to win, I take it you was not cheering when we wont the Carling Cup or the Europa League ?
If we win the FA Cup , will that be another Mickey Mouse Cup
Has for another other manger and being able to win a Treble this season, you are on cloud cuckoo land, City have been better in the PL this season and has for the CL not good enough.

In our heyday, you would be correct.
But let's have a reality check:
We have not won the league in 5 years.
Our players are not as good as you think they are.
During the last 2 years, the squad is being rebuilt with players who possess the winning mentality. Those who do not possess this (like Miki, for example), have already been removed.
MCFC have had an unrepeatable season, choc full of records, leaving us as the best of the rest.
We went further in the CL this season, than we have in 4 years. Admittedly, the way we went out to Sevilla was pathetic.
I do agree that we have a problem fighting against lesser teams (and perhaps Sevilla should be included in this).
But to say that this season has been a failure, is ludicrous. Most of the teams in England would love to be in our position (2nd place in the EPL and a FA Cup final).

I disagree.
Our team is good enough to win 1-0 or 2-0. Going with an attacking setup doesn't mean we leak goals behind. We are not Liverpool.
Jose could have setup a team to score (have proper strikers up front) and then gone for the defensive in 2nd half.
I also disagree that the coach sets up a team to achieve a record for a certain individual.

I don't hate Jose and don't want him gone, but he is a bit crazy sometimes. There is no logic behind some of his madness (like playing long injured Fellaini in must score Sevilla match).
For me at least it is clear that he wanted to show to Rashford/Martial that he will drop them because of some mistakes they did in their last match. Maybe to give them a kick at the back or maybe a show of power.

Thought he meant that single game against city, read it completely wrong. I agree that it would be very unlikely to pick up more points under any other manager. I’m happy with the points this season.

We still look like a massively over-coached squad of players IMO. I would say it was still fallout from LVG but there are too many players now that he didn't manage.

Very little movement off the ball. Nobody looks like they are enjoying themselves. Every player with the exception of 2 always look like they've made their mind up what they are going to do with the ball before its reached them. Its robotic football. The 2 exceptions being Sanchez, who gives the ball away all the time but is at least trying something unpredictable, and Pogba (who frankly never looks much like he has any idea what he is going to do to).

It won't get any better either. Last night was a free game of football for us. Little to no consequence. A perfect opportunity to try something new, and we did, but it was a defensive experiment. Why not try a brand new attacking approach? Let these players off the leash for once. "Just go out and express yourselves boys - no judgement". I'll tell you why not. What if it worked? What if we won 5-0 and looked good doing it? How does Jose justify going back to his tried and tested methods after that? Its not worth the risk for him. (And before people say he played an attacking side against Brighton and we were shite, I'll bet you those players went out there with a head full of instructions)

Until we stop setting up to nullify the opposition rather than let them set up to worry about us, we will always be a dull side to watch.

We finished 2nd though (Yay!). We'll win the FA Cup too, I'm certain. Jose doesn't lose finals (Yay!). For me its all for nothing if I'm checking my phone 15 mins into almost every single game because I'm feckin bored.

Struggling to a 0-0 with West Ham isnt my idea of entertainment and overall over the last 5 seasons its been mainly dull. Perhaps I was spoilt by the Fergie years.
We were all spoilt by the SAF years. He is our legend and the greatest manager of all time.

What I mean is, why would Jose give Sanchez and Lingard a bollocking? Sanchez contuously pressed and tried to create, and Lingard was one of the only players to force Adrian into any saves, and to be fair had a couple of good shots.

For me, yesterday wasnt the issue. Last week at Brighton was unacceptable as was Huddersfield, West brom, Sevilla, among others. If we want to compete next year we cannot be complacent in those types of matches. That goes for players and manager. Everyone needs to improve.

The tempo of a slug.

Limited chances created but for the most part, slow as feck. Horrible to watch we are at the moment

I'm always sad for the person when i read posts like this, a demand for success because we're Man Utd isn't support its an infatuation with success, one that currently isn't being satisfied.

Most people take enjoyment in wins and progress no matter the sport. That is not a reduction in standards. City have been amazing and you have to give fair play to them, if they'd been average and a point behind us that doesn't change our progress only the benchmark.

I wonder if our fans would be able to celebrate like Huddersfield fans did the other day at avoiding relegation. Not even sure many would survive the journey

I would have no problem in accepting not winning everything if we at least played football in an exciting manner.

It's better than 3rd. But I honestly think that Mourinho wanted to make sure De Gea got a clean sheet so he could get a golden glove. It also means that our game on the weekend means absolutely nothing so hopefully we can see players like Gomes and Chong get some playing time.

Grinding out a draw against West ham will give us momentum?

Mourinho values clean sheet more than a coaster roller win. I.e. he prefers 0-0 than a 3-4 last min win, particularly when the points is not so critical in the last 2 games. Some fans will not agree with this statement but Mourinho is Mourinho, guess he will never be liked by everyone.

Beside, these last 2 games are useful in preparing for the big game, and you will never get a 4-3 against Conte-Chelsea in a final, it will be 1-0 or 2-1. So Clean sheet is an important momentum for a cup final. And don't you agree DDG deserve this award?

I am not saying this is a big moment for celebration, because there is no prize being 2nd.

I felt like crying if frustration at the final whistle. For me, my love for Man Utd is bigger thatn football. I feel nothing for the game when I don't enjoy watching my team.

Another thing I remembered, around the 79th minute the game stopped briefly. It wasn't because the ref blew his whistle..it was our attack. Every single player on the pitch stopped moving, including the one with the ball. I'm not sure I've ever seen that. We got to the edge of the box and had even less of a clue what to do than usual, to the point where the game stopped for a few seconds.

This was horrifying. If I remember correctly (was in stands so may be wrong), Pogba looked up expecting a whistle / stoppage in play because it was so unnatural and weird.

The delusion is real. Talking about a treble when we before Mourinho and after SAF had zero PL titles, the better was a 4th place...

You don't say? You basically described the word win, like no other club figured that out. It's not easy like you make it seem it is, it's incredible to think that way.

City are miles ahead of everyone, not just United. They invested more, have a longer plan going than United (which had zero clue after SAF), have better quality overall in their team. If you really think it's just a case of go all out attack and we will be champions again, then you really are missing the problem.

United have the oldest fullbacks I ever seen playing at the same time, both of them declining. To make matters worse, in the midfield half of the players are almost or over 30 years old...

I can't believe that people here think this team can win trebles and play all attacking football (and win), when most of these players are playing here since post-SAF times.

You guys need to clear the dead wood out of the team like city did. The problem is that people here think that this is possible to do in 1-2 years and that Mourinho doesn't want this because he has player favorites in the team, but the reality is that you can't just sell all the dead wood in one go (finding clubs to buy deadwood isn't really easy you know?) and after that, buy players for those positions.

This is why Mourinho wants Fellaini to stay and some others, he can't just sell them all because he cannot buy good players for all those positions, the player's market price is bonkers and it's not feasible, unless you are PSG or City.

You are the one who is deluding himself if you think that United have issues about money and Jose plays that kind of football only because he doesn't have the players to play attacking football. He is essentially the hand brake of the teams he manages attacking wise for the last few years. That became apparent for the first time when they lost the tie against Atletico Madrid at home in CL in his first season (13/14) on his return to Chelsea. And they could very well be the champions in the Premier League that season too if he didn't decide to give up on the league easily and try to elude from Liverpool and Man City especially when they managed to beat both of these teams home & away :wenger: No wonder the likes of Hazard criticised his game plan and didn't want to play that shit game on a regular basis.

The following season they won PL without any competition whatsoever where all the other teams were trying to get their shit together and rebuild (United with Van Gaal, Liverpool lost Suarez, Arsenal were Arsenal, City were far from consistent) but in Champions League they failed to make any impact again and losing the tie against a 10 men PSG at Stamford Bridge was the further proof of what was wrong about Jose's approach to the game in the last couple of years. 15/16 was a pure disaster for him and he got the United job in the summer of 2016. 2 years on, we have yet to see any change in his approach or any indication that he learned lessons from his mistakes in the last 8 years or so. Just take a look at how much Real has won in the last 5 years after he left and by playing attacking football and scoring for fun too :

May 2013 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jose leaves Real Madrid with no Champions Leagues and only 1 La Liga, 1 Copa del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup in 3 Seasons (2010-2013)

2013/2014 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Champions League Winners

2013/2014 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Copa del Rey Winners

2014 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - UEFA Super Cup Winners

2015/2016 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Champions League Winners

2016 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - UEFA Super Cup Winners

2016/2017 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Champions League Winners

2016/2017 - - - - - - - - - - - - - La Liga Winners

2017 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Spanish Super Cup Winners

2017 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- UEFA Super Cup Winners

2017/2018 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - They will probably win Champions League this season again

We wont need to worry about the colour of Pogba's hair soon, he will have pulled it all out after another year or two of this.

What a quote. Telling the players they are going to lose.

I think I know where he is coming from and he is looking to get a (positive) reaction from the players, but it can easily work against him.

It depends of the context though.

Can you you suggest a context that makes sense without an unless included in the sentence.

That is the point. I doubt he just told the players "you are going to lose anyway so keep doing what you did in the first half".

It was only a few years ago, we only had Rooney in attack. Don't know why people here are ripping shreds out of each other.

Spend your energy getting behind the team, tearing lumps out of posts won't get us anywhere.

It was effing Moyes' West Ham United. Not bloody barca or real madrid. All 4 of your points could, and should, have been able to be had by any competent team while still putting out a decent gameplan and competence. Instead we got a 5-5-0 and hung on for a draw against this shit ass team.
