Premier League Gameweek 7

'yeah I thought your players showed enough to indicate that they still want to play for the manager. What did you make of the game overall and what did you make of us today?

There was a lot of support from the fans today towards Guidolin too. Which combined with the players efforts was good to see.

I thought the first half was decent in terms of limiting your chances and at least attempting to put pressure on your goal at points, but the second half was pretty dominant performance from your lot. At this point I think Liverpool are the most likely to compete with City for the title, still very early days but that's how I see it atm. Milner at LB has worked out very well.

It was exactly like grinding out a result, I remember so many games where United one 2-1 or 1-0 and the opponents had good chances to score but missed.

Then for some reason the next game they turn in Mr Clinical and win. Was so frustrating.

Plus, you need a bit of luck every now and again. And up until now this season, we've won our games by playing well.
I have seen not seen all your games so cannot really talk about them. Today you had more than your fair share of luck with the opponents missing absolute sitters plus a fortuitous penalty

Yeah I think it'd be incredibly harsh if he's sacked at this stage. If you keep showing that level of effort you'll pick up points.

Yeah we kind of stumbled onto that because of how poor Moreno has been and not being able to find an adequate replacement in the summer. He didn't have a great first half but Milner played really well in the second. I don't think we'll win the league but we look like a good shout for top four.

Hmm Fabianski didn't make any spectacular saves but we definitely created chances. We weren't at our best in the final third though and the decision making was poor at times. I would say we were fortunate for the penalty in that Swansea's defending was horrific but we definitely looked the more likely as the game went on. Sometimes you have games like that though where you have to rely on a bit of luck to see you over the line.

Don't you find those wins the most enjoyable though? It's always good to see your side win the odd game here and there without being at their best.
Jubilation at United's last minute win against Hull, but it glosses over the previous 90 mins.

I think when you are banging on the door it really is on a different level to the relief of the Hull result. I would think the Liverpool result is a relief to you, rather than a Jubilation of a thoroughly deserved victory. I think Arsenal and Chelsea results were viewed differently than today.

He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named will be on his way soon.

MUFC
Real Socidad
Sunderland

He is on a downward trajectory.
If he gets fired from Sunderland, then the next logical step is the Championship.

I don't know, I was pretty relieved after the Arsenal game given how easily we'd allowed them a route back into the game. I see what you mean though and given some of the chances Swansea had I was pretty relieved that we'd got the result. It still feels good though, to win a game when you're not at your very best.

Not Premier League related, but Villa aren't coming back any time soon.

I've watched the EPL since 1995. And in roughly 20 years, A.Villa of last season. was the worst EPL side I have ever seen.
The players were allegedly relieved when they got relegated.
It is no surprise that they won't be coming back up anytime soon. In fact, I'd say it is far more likely that they will be relegated from the Championship than coming back up to the EPL.

IMO, that team needs to be gutted and rebuilt from scratch, in order to remove the losing mentality, which most of their players seem to possess.

Chelsea are so uninspiring. Hazard must be one of the most overrated footballers ever.

Does it really help having players like Grealish who appear consumed by their own hype?

Especially combined with our summer transfer business, we sold our best defender and our best winger in Williams and Ayew, and the replacements haven't worked out (yet, I hope).

I see the top 4 (in no particular order) as City, United, Liverpool and Arsenal, with Tottenham having a good shout of getting top 4 too.
How do you rate your CB partnership btw?

I hope your manager is given a bit more time - based on today's game you're not far off. You caused us so many problems with your pressing and you managed to beat our press a lot in the first half.

Had it been a draw we couldn't have too many complaints.

I think the second half was enough for me to take the loss without any hard feelings, I just hope the board understand that it's a pretty tough few weeks fixture wise.

Yeah, it's unfortunate to see it happen to club like Villa. They just seemed so rotten last season, quite like Sunderland if they keep this up.

Newcastle look like they could shoot right back up though, they did so well getting Benitez.

I can't agree. He has the ability to be one of the worlds very best but his attitude sucks. There was no Reston for him to be so shite at the start of Chelsea's last season. Pure laziness and unprofessionalism

He'll score a nicely taken goal or from a really nice dribble, maybe today, or in the next few games, and you'll have his thread bumped again and the type of posts about not really getting football without stats, or some bollocks like that until he doesn't do anything again until the next time the cycle repeats.

Derby (07/08) were probably worse, but at least they were newly promoted.

No, he will still be one of the most overrated footballers ever for me. A goal or assist against Hull won't change that. There was a period 2/3 years ago when he was being compared with Neymar and Bale but both are much better than Hazard.

Yeah letting Williams go was madness really. He's always been a solid defender for you.

I really like Matip and Lovren has been fairly solid for the last 12 months. They look solid enough for the most part as a partnership but today they had some issued with your pressing and Matip didn't look that comfortable with the ball. They need to work on their communication with Karius but I'm encouraged so far. Matip looks like a good bit of business considering he was a free transfer.

Bale was considered very overrated before the turnaround season under Redknapp. Hazard was very good under JM for 2 seasons then became very self indulgent. He still has time to work at his game

Sunderland aren't that bad. it's just that the rest of the Premier League aren't that bad.
