for a minute there I thought they were going to say Keane was suspended for the next game too

I said I'd settle for 3-1 at half time and I think, all in all, that's a good result for us. They could have been out of sight at one stage.

and back at OT, they can't play much better and we can't play much worse than we did in the first half. We're just about due for another heroic European comeback.

Come on United!!!!

I was surprised by how few players really turned up ... Becks was missing.... and Wes never looked good.

However 2-0 in Old T amd we're through!

Guilty - AS USUAL - of not making changes early enough to make a difference. The 87th minute when you're chasing a two goal deficit is A JOKE.

Not too many positives to take from this game, but we did come back from this game, after 3-0, many teams could just collapse, and im glad we left ourselves with a chance for the next game, even if just the slightest.

ok that does it, im pissed now, feck off zidane, feck off real madrid, hope we will beat them 2-0 at old trafford.

im not going to give up on real madrid, come on!!! 2-0 at OLD TRAFFORD!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least with Scholes out it should mean we play 2 strikers up front from the start at OT. Hopefully Veron back in midfield too.

Seba's not going to make it for the return leg.

Not impossible.

Poor performance on the whole, Beckham being particularly sh1te. Ferdinand looked very solid after the 3rd goal, which is nice to see.

Not really. I'd say doing a sub like that 20 minutes from time and risking being blown out of site is not much better.

I think your wrong, if fergie had let Ole in before we would really be asking for the 4th goal, every Real attack was 1/2 a goal.

got a chance...

Made too many mistakes, overall.. however the second half was better, due to the goal..which changed the atmosphere of the match.

Ruud was excellent. I only wished the other 'stars' followed his example. Becks(awful), butt were tripe...

Having said that, anythings possible. One things for sure, we have to boss the game.

So the team for the home leg then could be:-

Barthez
Wes
Silvestre
Rio
O'Shea
Beckham
Keane
Neville or Butt
Giggs
Ruud
Ole

I'm just happy we're still in it. It's going to be really, really tough with Seba, Scholesy and Gary out. But at least we have a chance.

Not a whole lot we can do about this now. We have huge league matches and Real will have to be put in the back of our minds or we'll quickly end up with nothing.

Why? It should have been a straight swap for Beckham who had a dreadful game.

im afraid the confident will drop, and the game at st james park aint easy!

Ahh, but my theory of a poor result followed by a good one might be proven with any luck.

But obviously that wasn't the idea of the substitution. Not very smart replacing a player who tends to have bad games and still create one moment of magic.

how fecking good were madrid in the first half, raoul and zidane were on a different planet.

united had to be at there best to get a result and they weren't by a long way. we have to pray that they are for the return...

To be honest only Ruud from our side looked like he belonged on that park, the others had no confidence, passion or verve. One of the most abject performances in Europe I've seen from us, barring Maccabi Haifa. And sad to say Beckham was the worst of them, truly needlessly shockingly poor.

Well he may as well have left it as it was then - an 87th minute substitution was a waste of time because it left us exposed at the back and we still could have lost the 4th goal.

dreadful game or not, Becks could have supplied that one ball that would give us the 2nd goal.

and one more thing, I think Ruud should try and pass the ball more INSIDE the box, i counted atleast twice that he could leave or pass the ball to someone beside him and instead he tried an overhead kick.

It wouldn't surprise me if they patch veron up for the return leg.

wouldn't suprise me if they patch up Cantona and Best for the return leg.

So when do you bother with substitutes then? You wouldn't change the team if they were on top - but not when they're behind either! So in your eyes then, subs are only for injuries?

OGS proved in December that he can cross the ball as good as Beckham.

Agreed. We were doing well, as soon as we dropped Ole came on. Can't blame substitions..

Anyhow, 3-1 is better than 2-0.

We're still in this tie.

We beat Barca 3-0 at home in 84... against Real 2-0 will be good enough.(wish we had a young robbo )

That overhead kick was a good one. But, yes there was instance where Giggs was so free on the right. He should have passed there on the counter attack.

You wouldn't have taken Beckham off then?

The little bald cnut was laughing at him and Beckham had no response... at least kick the fecking twat.

Gary Neville, bad as he was, had the nerve to kick a lump out of Ronaldo that really ended up killing the fat one's confidence and taking him out of the game. He even slowed Zidane down a bit after kicking him... why didn't we play physically from the start, or at least when they started mocking us in the first half?
--------------------------------------------------
Neil, Ferdinand looked pretty solid, and Giggs in the second half was contributing a lot to our attack. Scholes was not bad either, and O'Shea looked one of the best players out there once he came on. He must be a starting player from now on.
