Red Dead Redemption

To me, in terms of environment, it's the best game I've played. Similar to GTA in terms of structure, but with a much more original (and brilliant) setting. The world looks so real, and the introduction of wildlife, makes it seem extremely alive and dynamic.

I really don't think the cover system fails. Studying your moves, in GTA IV it was possible to do some of the tougher end missions without ever being shot. Found it extremely easy and useful to use in GTA and it's not that bad here - though not as useful seeing as most fights are in more open grounds.

There are times when it fails, massively.

I keep getting messages telling me that new weapons are available to buy. Yet when I visit the store, they are all locked. It can't be lack of funds as I have around 600 bucks. Anyone?

Can't help you there mate, just try all the towns shops and see what happens. I've just got my poncho, going all Clint Eastwood now.

I need to find skunks, anyone know where i can find a group of the buggers?

I've just been trying the one in Armadillo. Are there a bunch of other gunshops scattered around?

As for skunks, I always see a lot of them around the outskirts of Armadillo.

Wow riding a horse through the mountains at night, the moon and stars above me with country music playing.

That's really, really good.

I've got the first 5, i think, the first one in mexico was a bitch. Luckily i rode past the landmark it shows on the map by accident whilst dicking around!

Not a clue where the one i have now is though.

Is that the one with the rock formation that looks like a cock? I can't find that one either.

So is this worth getting then? I'll probably pick it up after the Group Stages in the World Cup, won't have time to play until then.

Yeah, I haven't tried multiplayer yet, my opinion of the game is solely based in single player. They did advertise multiplayer a lot, but on a game of this type it's usually just for a quick fun like in GTA. It would be hard to make a big thing out of it, hence I didn't even try yet.

What's wrong with it? I might not get it if I can't just mess around once I've finished it.

You can keep playing. I won't spoil the ending for you. You can keep playing it is just different and not as enjoyable once you finish the story.

If you want to dick around, I'd make a save AFTER you finish off your old buddies. Finish the story, then go back to your old save.

My guess is that he get's abducted by aliens then comes back to earth with a laser pistol and riding a robotic horse that can walk on it's hind legs and carries a big feck-off lasergun. He also has special powers....eyes of a hawk, ears of a wolf, strength of a bear and speed of a puma!

Amirite?

Can someone explain what happens to me when you die? I assumed it just sent you back to your last save, which it seems to do geographically, but any quests I updated before I died and any time that passed (morning, for example) will be remembered - I might have saved last at night time but if I complete a stage of a quest and then die at midday I'll be respawned at my save point in the afternoon with the stage complete.

It's very disconcerting and annoying.

mine better fecking come today.
ive been so excited.
shall my hopes remain high ? or isit a complete fail.

Got this game on Thursday but have only played it for about an hour or so and have liked what i've seen so far. One question though is how do you know which are the main missions and which are side missions?

This game's annoying me now. Switching weapons on the PS3 is so counter-intuitive. I'll be out in the desert, get attacked by about a million wolves and because I had the lasso out be killed without being able to do shit. Which means I'll have lost all of my skins that I'd just spent five minutes killing and getting.

What do the developers expect me to do? Set up a campfire and save the game every two minutes? How interesting. A quicksave feature would be nice, frankly, and it's not as if modern consoles couldn't handle that.

Oh dear.

See that, that is the reason I find games like this annoying.

It's like buying a book and only reading the chapters about peripheral characters, because you kept accidentally skipping dozens of pages at a time.

I know the whole logic is that you can "write your own story" with all this freedom to do whatever the feck you want. But I don't want to write my own story, I want to read a story by someone who is better at writing stories than I am!

I'm still massively tempted to buy this, mind you. Is anyone else enjoying it who has the same reservations about sand-box gaming as I do?

Hold on, it's obvious which are story missions. The one's that are giant initials on your map, and appear on your mini-map at all times are story missions. Anything else is a side thing.

This game is the sex to be quite honest, and it is blatantly clear what the story line missions are.

It's very obvious. Main missions are with story characters and (at least so far) have a symbol for their name. B for Bonnie, M for Marshal, etc...

Side missions are the "stranger" missions and they have a "?". Plus the odd jobs with random people that pop up asking for help and that you can ignore if you want.

I find the stranger missions a lot of fun so far though.

You're wrong about this. The only point is that you can advance in the story at your own rhythm with plenty of stuff to do midway if you like to progress slowly and explore the world.

You don't "write" your own story. The story itself is very linear, sometimes you can choose between two or three main story missions (where their order doesn't interfere with the storyline) but there's always some kind of choke point where you have to have them done before some main ones appear.

got mine this morning
havent played much single player, seems a bit boring. Im at the place where your with that chick chasing cougers and shooting rabits

but the online is great fun, somthing completely different.

single player is slow starting but dont worry it picks up quickly

My horsey died :(

Does anyone else find the controls a bit sluggish?

Also, I swear to god that redneck cnut in the Armadillo saloon cheats at poker. He really fecking cheats. I have to kill him after he's won all my money from me.

You can cheat, too.

It's a horse Spammy, not a bike.

It took me some time until I get perfect control of the horse, the manual makes it a bit confusing to understand. But now me and the animal are one.

The problem is, like with the newest GTA, the controls are too realistic. The character actually walks rather than 'gliding' like they do on most other games, which makes it feel like the controls are shit. When actually they are just super realistic.

My warhorse died yesterday, i tearfully skinned it's carcass and wandered off into the desert. Then i whistled and another identical horse came up past the old ones corpse and away i went.

You haven't actually been anywhere other than Armadillo yet, have you?
