If De Gea continues to make mistakes he should get a change. Always seen him play well for us.

I swear he always has like 10 games and then 9 clean sheets per season.

Romero should start the next game IMO but I don't think he will.
Clearly he won’t. They aren’t going to hand DDG a massive new bumper contract and then immediately drop him. Romero is a great keeper though and despite our lack of depth throughout the squad we are blessed to have a back up keeper of his quality.

I made that post way before he signed a new deal.

Best number 2 in the world.

Man Utd 1:1 Rochdale
De Gea is obviously a much better keeper but for a penalty shoot out i prefer Romero.

Unpopular opinion, but I honestly think Sergio deserves a run as number one, even if literally just to give De Gea a kick up the backside.

De Gea's been awful for most of the last year (and was a mixed bag the year prior) whereas Romero has been terrific in 90% of the matches he's played for us, with only the very occasional error thrown in.

His command of the area is far stronger, and now that even De Gea's best attribute (shot stopping) is eluding him, this seems like the ideal time to give him a shot. It's quite possible his weaknesses would be more exposed in the long-run, e.g. his tendency to punch rather than catch, and this might end up showing why he's almost always been a backup keeper, but all things considered he deserves a go.

We're damn lucky to have a backup keeper as good as Romero. And he seems happy to be one too! Guy could easily be first choice in a decent team.

It’s not unpopular. De Gea should have been dropped in April.

Big Serge is one of the few doing his job properly almost every time, and he is from Argentina and was free on top of it. He is almost world class as a backup keeper, you will have a hard time finding a better one around on and off the pitch.

That evil grin he did before saving the penalty was great. It was like he knew

Didn't see it yesterday but saw it vs Astana. It was refreshing when a ball was played in behind and instead of being rooted to his line he was proactive. Came outside of the box, headed it away for a throw in and relived all pressure for the defence.

I think he should start in PL also. So much better overall keeper.

Personally I really like him. He would probably form a very solid, no nonsense partnership with Maguire in his own 5 yard box. And for every screamer that prehaps DeGea would manage to save and he wouldn't there are dozen situations in matches where Romero is more reliable

His ball handling sometimes and it's rare is suspect but he pulls of incredible saves. I am surprised that he is willing to be a number 2 while he is much better than many number one keepers in many PL or clubs in Europe who are playing in the CL.

Chelsea 1:2 Man Utd
Shouldn’t be too critical after the win, but his distribution was appalling tonight.

He came and claimed a ball around the penalty spot, something I've never seen Dave do. I love this guy.

From the limited games we get to see of Romero, I think his distribution is better than Daves and considering he barely plays that says something.

That is the thing I can't forgive to Dave it's that he is so terrible using his feet and his handling distribution lacks precision. I know he's a keeper and probably it's something that is worked on training but he's not going to improve much further, but I think this is a disadvantage not having a keeper who can properly distribute the ball and place it in conditions for our players to control it immediately and start the play.

Agree. But I think most United fans accept the flaws with Dave in regards to his distribution due to his excellent shot-stopping, even though during the past year he has been inconsistent with his shot-stopping.

However, if he goes back to his best, which I think he will, then we just have to accept the flaws in his game and just have to work around his poor distribution on the pitch. De Gea will be here for another couple of years at least and we just have to accept his distribution won't get much better.

King Romero, when dealing with crosses, and man he's too reliable and naturally "match fit" despite playing very rarely, missing so many games in between.

Not without limitations of course, that much is obvious.

Man Utd 3:0 Partizan
It's refreshing knowing that anytime a ball is played in behind, the keeper is coming out to relieve the pressure instead of staying on the safety of his line protecting himself.

Not much to do, but was alert all the time and quick to back up the defenders when needed.
