Sporting Lisbon vs. Manchester United - Wednesday 19 September 2007 (19:45 BST)

Pheeeewww away win in Europe

Job done. Three points away from home in a champions league game, there's a rare sight.

decent result, fair performance ... on to the renties

Loads is a small word.

He is nowhere close to good enough currently.

In the 4 Premiership goals we've scored, he's made 2 and scored 1.

Yes, he's got a lot to learn, but to say he isn't good enough yet :nono:

Good second half, muppets. Ronaldo very good, yes yes yes.

At least VDS is back at his best this season. This is the first time Sporting lose against a English team at home so it's a great result.

Ignoring the first half, it was a good performance. Showed glimpses of our potential. Crucial 3 points as well. Ronaldo looks back to his best.

But these 1-0s aren't good for your nerves.

Nani done well for me, if Giggs was a summer signing, he would be getting slaughtered right now...

The talent we brought on was awesome, i loved our bench...

VDS didnt drop one ball, he was a machine, and Ronaldo was the best player on the park.

Nice one, feels really nice and cuddly to have a back four that looks magnificent. And with Gazza it´ll be even better! Bring on them russians!

I wish we'd started with Tevez and Rooney, but I suppose it wasn't my call. Giggs was a non-entity up front, as usual. It's not his position and it's unfair to ask him to play there and perform.

Tevez came on and didn't really get any time to do anything since there was five minutes left, but Saha was a let down. I suppose his chances were in and around the box, where he'd normally be able to control the ball and pop it away, but he couldn't do so here because of the appalling state of the pitch.

I think that was a real reason why we didn't look our fluid best, particularly in the second half when we imposed ourselves much more. Even then, our final product lacked but I think that was because the pitch was so poor the ball just wasn't moving properly.

Seriously, Sporting should be punished for having a pitch that bad. This is the Champion's League, gorram it.

Thats an unfiar statement. People expect miracles from him when in reality; that wont happen for another 2/3 seasons. Give him time

I reckon they'd be very good playing off each other. Two intelligent footballers with good awareness and vision.

Saha's the logical choice, though. More likely to stretch defences. Rooney and Tevez love dropping deep.

Stop moaning you bunch of schoolgirls, it's gonna be a long, long season and things are going in the right way. We keep winning, keep getting clean sheets and everyone is getting nearer full fitness.

Get in!

What a second half performance.

Good win and now we've to beat Chelsea on Sunday at OT to defend our crown:)
Rooney was ok! But Ronaldo was unbelievable in the second half and I don't know what Fergie told him but we were changed team in the 2nd half. VDS was just brilliant tonight and I'd like to see him performing like this on Sunday against Chelski. Ronaldo's standing ovation was brilliant to watch:D

Overall, our back four were solid as ever and I don't see us so far having problem in defense.

Glad we raised our game in the 2nd half. Wished we would go forward more often and put on more pressure and play a bit quicker. But it was the first game and we yet have to find our best form.

Tevez didnt look fit though, probably needs more fitness training. Bit slow and fat he looked

You have to be joking? Why are we starting him in a usless european group stage game? We have Chelsea on Sunday and he should only be used as a sub in this game. Unreal.

Have you told SAF this? He probably hadn't thought about it properly.

Thats the reason why we struggle away cause that stupid defensive formation, lets play the way we know

two wingers and two strikers and dont care a feck if away or home

Is this your plan to concentrate on the PL by going out of Europe early?
