Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Hmm, let's just say Cannes festival compatible.

It's pretty straight forward and enjoyable gangster stuff that Cassel single-handely elevates a lot.
La Cité de la Peur is the best film ever on the Cannes festival, and it's French.

Agree with your take on Mesrine. I think.

What's the opinion on Mesrine? I watched the first part, then sort of tuned out and never got round to the second. I love Cassel, and it seemed right up my street but I couldn't quite get into it. I might have just been in the wrong mood. Or drunk.
Part 1 is great, part 2 is mediocre at best. You got the best bit.

Not sure how I feel about Interstellar, I mean, I enjoyed it, but it felt rushed somewhat, confusing at times and just plain mental.

Avanti - A film that tries to convince you it's ok to have an affair as long as the woman is overweight, even though the woman isn't actually overweight at all.

Virgin Suicides

8/10. Hauntingly sad, really well made film. Sofia Coppola needs to make more films like this/ LiT again.

Draft Day.

I'm a bit of a sucker for sports movies, and I gotta say, despite the poor ratings, I really like this movie. Costner and Garner romantic subplot was a bit of a meh, the movie could do without it. But I love how they dramatized the background process in drafting a player.

I need to watch and write a review about a French movie for an internship opportunity. I have no idea what to watch and seemingly I want to impress them, so I come here to you film buffs to recommend something good for me.

Cheers

La Grande Vadrouille, Story of O, Emmanuelle 5. French sophistication par excellence.

Watching Death Proof I got to thinking: where have all those talentless, rich, white no-nothing studio execs gone? Men who with nothing but a razor and a trash can, could butcher an artist's vision into an 85 minute piece of passable entertainment. Some days I mourn the loss of these forgotten soldiers of the industry.

Starry Eyes
An aspiring actress gets much more than she bargained for whilst auditioning for a role. Decent indie horror flick. Really creates a dark, empty atmosphere and asks questions of the lengths people would go to to reach their ambitions. It's very eerie and eventually gets quite grotesque, but the violence does not feel out of place due to the subtle build up. The acting, especially the lead was superb and the story was very engaging. Yes, it borrows quite heavily from some films (which I shall not name for spoiler reasons) but in the same way The Conjuring borrows from many horror films, you cut it some slack as it does everything respectfully and with great aplomb. Really enjoyed this 7.5/10

You mean the people who paid for the film and without whom it wouldn't have been made?

Maybe the artist should have shot a cheap movie. Or written a poem.

Watch La Haine.

John Wick-Was alright like. Not as good as I'd been told. Some good action but it got a bit repetitive and you could have cut about 15 minutes even though it was only about 90 minutes long. I'd put it above all the Taken rip offs around lately but below say, Shoot 'Em Up?

Definately. Shoot 'em up is one of the best action films for me.

The Loft. (2015)

An interesting concept in this film about 5 friends who have bought a penthouse apartment and each hold a key. They use said penthouse to cheat on their respective wives and generally be bad people.

At the start of the film we discover that a woman had been found dead in the bed of the apartment and none of the 5 friends (who tell you time and time again that they are they only 5 with access to the apartment) claim to know anything about the death of this girl. We then follow the journey up to discovery and ultimately discover what happened to her.

The main cast are instantly dislikeable, apart from the designated apartment that is solely bought for cheating on their respective spouses, we have five friends that include a cokehead prostitute rapist that during one particularly disturbing fit of rage shouts the life affirming message "it's not fecking possible to rape a whore" A disgusting drunk who is presumably placed into the film as the 'funny guy' and fails miserably, The ultimate womaniser, his suspiciously jealous friend and a shrink who is so professional that he starts a relationship with the sister of one of his former patients that killed herself. Like I said a remarkably unlike-able cast.

The story is told in flashback while the suspects are being interrogated by two detectives, at no point did any of the five suspects of murder think it a good idea to ask for a lawyer.

The film is a remake of the 2008 Belgian film of the same name, but like almost every film that has been translated and remade by Hollywood this one rightfully flopped.

Bitterly disappointing.

3.5/10

 ffs

I have to watch this.

Be careful. Once you start watching them you absolutely cannot stop. Every episode has a better cliff-hanger than Breaking Bad.

Also you might find that normal conversation doesn't cut the mustard any more. You'll have the urge to sing your day to day experiences.

Yeah I enjoyed it to must admit.
