Should have went in another direction with the ending, just ended up making the film more forgettable.
Watched the first half of Once Upon a Time in America. Great film so far. If it keeps up like this it'll probably go down behind the Godfather's as the greatest gangster movie I've seen.
Second only to The Godfather imo. A masterpiece.
I have never heard of this film, but if it is the same class has the Godfather, then I think I need to watch it.

Watch it. I will warn you that patience is required with the length of it, but if you enjoyed the Godfather and are in the right mood for this, you'll love it.
Cypher - A pretty entertaining Corporate Espionage/Sci-Fi yarn from the bloke who directed the Cube. A decent twisting plot that, whilst possibly a bit predicatble and convulted at the same time, is still quite interesting and holds your attention. Plus it has that B-Movie Sci-Fi feel to it... which I always enjoy.
The Intouchables, really charming movie 9/10
Narc - Excellent gritty cop drama from the bloke who did The Grey. Ray Liotta is superb in it, and it's definitley worth checking out if you like this sort of thing.
One of my favourite films recently. Go figure.
Am I the only one who is generally finding the best tv much better than films in general? I haven't seen a film that I have enjoyed as much as Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones or Homeland recently.

the usual suspects I know I know. I'm about 17 years late watching this. Being honest I was expecting much more from it after all the hype, and the only thing that kept me guessing was if the big twist could really be so obvious. It was.

End of Watch I recommend seeing this film. LA cop movie from David Ayer who did Training Day Harsh Times. Stars Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena, both were excellent some of the best on screen chemistry I've seen in awhile. Hollywood does take it's liberties in the film, but the acting by the two main characters more than makes up for it.

I saw the trailer for that film... the hand-held/found footage style it's shot in put me right off, not sure I could take 90 minutes of that!

It was a good movie, but I was expecting much more. I spent most of the last hour thinking could it be anyone else. Maybe I was more enlightened than my normal self last night.
It is a problem watching a film that you know has a twist.
Indeed, some people are lured into trying to work out the twist rather than just enjoying the film.
Hard not to do when it is a film that everyone has told you has a great twist.

Expendables 2 What a movie. If you are watching it as a parody, then it's excellent, but as a serious action movie it's awfull. 
Yeah, that's probably been the problem. For years I've seen the film appear on peoples 'top #' lists, so I expected so much and I knew there was going to be a twist so my brain was in overdrive. Normally I'm such a popcorn movie watcher and never think about the ending till it arrives.

Well, first part was watchable tbf.
I didn't think so. I thought the whole problem with Expendables 1 was that it took itself very seriously. It really lacked that "well this is just us having a bit of fun" thing (that the A Team, which came out around the same period, definitely had), it was too straight-faced for me. Plus the action scenes were pretty crap (except for the part where they attack a docking thing with a plane), especially the last one with all the shooting, it was like it was shot by an epileptic guy. Impossible to watch.
Was very disappointed because I love it when films like that don't take themselves seriously and you get the feeling it was just good fun to shoot the picture. I didn't get that feeling from Expendables 1 and found it very boring.
Don't know about n°2 though, didn't go to see it.

Agree about this being a totally overrated film.
Taking Off - Milos Foreman (1971)
This was Foreman's first American film after coming over from Czechoslovakia, and very vintage 60s. Kind of a stereotypical 60s daughter runaway plot, but done in a very original, daring, artsy way. Fantastic folk music throughout, including cameos of the sexy overbite of Carly Simon, and the impossibly hot back up singers of Tina Turner. There was one classic scene of a support group of parents of runaway kids and they're taught how to smoke pot so they can relate better to their troubled kids, which kind of makes sense, and was a brilliant, hilarious scene. I imagine Foreman could never expect any commercial success with that scene, but it was a brilliant, comical thing to shove in conservative America's face.
A lot of actors in this who would later become much better known. Enjoyed this film very much, especially the young female folk singing parts.

I don't rate first part that good also, but I think it's still better than the second one.
I'm usually the same way with shaky cams in films. However it wasn't too bad watching this.
Number 2 was very tongue in cheek.
They're not the "this is abit of taking fun" kind of movie, they present themself as serious badass movie (albeit over the top)
But we have to see them with a light hearted over the top action
That's just it, pure popcorn flick we sorely miss from the 80 and 90s
I loved the first one, I did not expect anything worth an Oscar, I just wanted to be entertained for 90+ minutes and that is what it did.
What I got was what I expected, a group of ageing action hero's at the twilight of there careers having some fun.
I will watch the second one expecting the same.

Tongue in cheek, that was the phrase I was looking for when I was writing my message! That's what I thought the first one lacked and could have been useful. Maybe I'll try to give Expendables 2 a chance. Unlikely though.
Sky1981: I understand what direction they went in, however for that over the top full on action, the least I expect is good action scenes. I thought they were very poorly put together in number 1, I didn't get any satisfaction out of that point.
I watched The Godfather last night again for probably the fifth time. It really is a masterpiece. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful movies ever filmed. I just love how understated the acting is. Now to see if I can get hold of the other two this week.
Still not watched the third one yet. The first 2 are among the best films I have seen.
