Rosemary's Baby is awesome!!
I think it hasn't aged all that well but it's still much better than your average horror. The score was good though. Give Repulsion a watch some time and see what you think, I think it's much better. Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant look somewhat dated while for me Repulsion looks vintage - perhaps because it's shot in black-and-white.
Was absolutely shit..the movie had no plot, the music was being played at all the wrong intervals, the suspense felt forced, the actions scenes were useless and not needed, no logic.
Improvement on other bond movies but a shit movie. Wasted 3 hours of my life of it.
I would disagree an almost all of those accounts. There was most certainly a plot... it wasn't a particularly deep or complex plot, but it was still there. Sure, the villains 'masterplan' was a little bit contrived and pointlessly showy to achieve his ultimate goal (but how is that different to most bond films? or infact, a lot of films?!)... but there was still a plot there.
Didn't have a problem with the music... overall I thought the score was pretty decent, and it never really seemed out of place, if anything the score really added to proceedings, particularly in the first half of the film.
Finally, as for the action scenes not being needed... I never really once thought that! Thinking back, there wasn't one action scene that didn't further the story... except for perhaps the fight in that casino/bar... but that wasn't exactly long or anything. Also, the whole action set piece in Shanghai was tremendous... brilliant cinema.

Wendy and Lucy - Kelly Reichardt (2008)
Indie film with Michelle Williams in a very unglamorous role of a young woman with not much of a future on her way to work in the canneries of Alaska who's car breaks down, is broke, and loses her dog companion. Filmed in the Pacific Northwest (near Portland I think) with a definite grungy feel to it. Paints a good picture of youth and aimless desperation, but is stunted by some really crap dialogue. Nice cameo by weird geezer folkster, Will Oldham, who I guess starred in one of Reichardt's earlier films.

The plot made far more sense than The Dark Knight fwiw. Both are great fun.
Lost in Translation - came in pissed and watched this.. thought it was quite brilliant - funny, sad and thoughtful. Murray is outstanding.
The Man Who Wasn't There - Very good neo-noir gem, it looked great and it might perhaps be one of the Coen's most underappreciated works. Very dry humour.
Good Night, and Good Luck. - Period piece about Edward R. Murrow going after Joseph McCarthy. Decent, informative, sharp. Clooney also got a screenplay credit but I just can't shake the image of him sitting with his legs on the table, throwing a tennis ball against the wall pitching in with just the odd remark.

Ashamed to admit I haven't seen it, but I just watched Repulsion recently. That was very good.
Contagion - Pretty good film about an epidemic of a deadly disease which there isn't an antivirus found for yet. Matt Damon acts like an emotionless plank though. 6.5/10
KILLER JOE Excellent film about a killer for hire starting Emile Hirsch and Matthew Mconaughey. Mconaughey's performance I thought was brilliant. This movie has a great scene that should go down in cinema history! You'll know it when you see it. 8/10
Expendables 2 I'm not actually going to watch this because my 13 year old son found it so annoyingly stupid that he turned it off before half way through. An action film too stupid for a 13 year old who loves stupid action films has to be very dumb indeed. 0.5/10

He saves a woman who's trying to commit suicide, and while she's recuperating, he starts raping her. The father and son protest, but he insists that since he saved her, he has the right to schlump her.
It's a very touching and poignant scene while this guy's father and son are basically forced to watch him rape her. The son in protest bites him on the bare ass . . .

It hasn't aged well in the fact it shouldn't really have been a horror film as there was nothing scary about it whatsoever. I thought the acting was fine, the cinematography superb but it was dull and dragged on. I'll give Repulsion a go. The Haunting even with it's bad acting and stupid characters actually portrayed a sense of dread throughout that worked fantastically. Rosemarys Baby just annoyed and bored the hell out of me.
How did it take you by surprise? They were constantly telling you what was going on.

Okay-ish film. The plot didn't really move fast enough at the beginning of the film but was moving way too fast at the end. There were bits where it was very long at the beginning, but the latter part of the film saw a lot of details being squeezed in. Good film, wouldn't watch it again though.

The Inbetweeners
Funny light comedy film. The plot was basically the usual romantic comedy plots you usually see but I thought they did well in creating the dark comedy bit. Some hilarious scenes as well. Would definitely watch it again.

That's not a bad shout. It's a very young art form. I had a huge thing for the classics from 17 to 21 (?) and probably got through 70% percent of them. I probably only watch 10-20 movies a year nowadays. It's terrible.
Now is it one of these films where they show all the classic characters in the first ten minutes of the film then never to be seen again, or do they intersperse them throughout the movie?

It's the sort of film that it's best to go in cold without reading up too much about it (as I did) so I won't delve into the plot. Suffice to say it's well acted, shockingly violent in parts and clearly inspired by a certain 70's British film that if I said the name of it, the 'twist' would be ruined.
Just watch it. After the kids are in bed.

Crazy, Stupid, Love: I knew very little about it and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a fan of romcoms, but this was pretty well done. I got a couple of genuine laughs out of it.
Lars and the real girl: Quirky little film about a troubled young man who purchases a "lifelike" sex doll and plays out a fantasy about her being his real girlfriend. It was oddly compelling and quite charming.

Even now it feels like I'm scraping the barrel for new films to watch. I will have to start reading more books.

3 Women - A rather strange film. Very atmospheric, like a mysterious unexplainable dream (it was apparently based on a dream Robert Altman once had). Overall it had a strong Persona vibe. I liked it but I might have to see it again to get full the gist of it, if that's possible that is.
Looper - Highly enjoyable. A decent original story with excellent direction. Kept the time travelling at a good level. Wasn't that keen on the supernatural stuff though.

Watched Requiem for a Dream last night on netflix. Very interesting movie and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the whole I enjoyed the film, but I thought the tunnel vision 'moral' of the story was quite silly. Some excellent acting and an unexpected ending. A big feck you to Hollywood.

There are some throughout the movie, but the best ones are near the beginning. They do reappear though. The Bad-Anonymous scenes are awesome.
I was hoping someone would tell me whether I liked requiem or not.
It's not really a film you 'like'. It's an interesting and original film to watch, the acting is very good (especially Ellen Burstyn), and it's a clever take on different type of addictions and their destructive nature. The directing makes or brakes the film, for me, I remember watching it with my girlfriend and she got very annoyed with the different tricks Aronofsky uses (the lenses, the moving fridges, etc.), but I also remember that when I saw it for the first time, they didn't annoy me at all, on the contrary, I thought they were very intelligent ways to visually express certain ideas. In any case, it's not really a film you watch over and over (I know I don't), its skill resides in its originality which you, of course, don't enjoy as much when re-watching it.
