Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Entitled to your opinion lads, I fail to see what was great about blade runner.... incredibly slow and boring and more importantly, the characters we're shite and there was absolutely zero effort to make them in anyway interesing. Hence I couldn't give a feck about the ending...

... but the 3 prequel Star Wars films? really?!

I'd rather stare at a blank screen for 6 hours than watch the Star Wars prequels again.

I can't believe that "any Star Wars movie" are more enjoyable than Blade Runner. Most of them are a chore to sit through.
I would rather watch any Star Wars film than Blade Runner, I just did not like it.
The Empire strikes Back is for me maybe the best Sci-Fi film ever, but that is just me, many other hate them and I respect that, you either love them or hate them.

Visually lovely but a great story as well. The themes are superb.

I loved the first 3 Star Wars films, especially the first two but they were hugely enjoyable space operas whereas Blade Runner was a Sci-Fi that had far deeper and more enjoyable themes about what makes us human plus questions about the end of our existence, the lost memories etc. Plus incredible cinematography and casting.

So good I even like the original with the cheesy Sam Spade style voiceover. The Final Cut on Bluray is truly stunning though. Right up there with Godfather II and Apocalypse Now.

I Get that it touches on human conditions and our existance, memories and the mind etc... The problem with it for me is though, they really don't delve into Harrisons fords character more, you know little or nothing about the lead character... there's a scene where he stands on his balcony alone, looking forlorne and isolated... not really much to go on, you need more than that to feel something for the character.

Flip side then as well, The replicants. You hear stories of these murders they commited to get back to earth, wouldn't it of been better served actually seeing their murders...make you fear them more? possibly hate them more? could in turn side with the humans more than...

I didn't feel anything for any of the characters... it was more like watching a debate on humanity and religion!

That is part of the point. Is he a replicant or human? If he is human who feels more, him or Rachel? Knowing more would tell you far too much.

Even seemingly scumbag replicates develop feelings and regrets and you end up feeling sympathy for them. You should hate them and want them dead but you don't. Their anguish at having a finite existence of just a few years mirrors our own fears about mortality.

"It's too bad she won't live. But then again, who does?"

Blade Runner is absolute shite. And that ad-lib speech of Rutger Hauer is nonsense, too.

Anyone know of a good movie that came out recent-ish?

You're being way too specific for me to recommend something...

Grand Budapest Hotel, Raid 2, Edge of Tomorrow and X-Men DOFP are my favourite films that I've seen at the cinema so far this year (after Oscar season).

Non-Stop was the biggest surprise in that it was actually entertaining and not utter shite.

Will give X-men a go. Have been meaning to watch it for a while now. Although the last wolverine movie was a major disappointment.

You do get that the Fi in Sci-Fi is for fiction right?

Yes ... What I mean about his speech, is that it is heralded as some great soliloquy, but really it's just him saying random shit which fits in the name of 'sci-fi'.

Rubbish. The details of c-beams etc are irrelevant. It is a reflection on his life and the tragedy of mortality.

Behave. You're making out like it's some groundbreaking monologue. It's about 4 lines long and he just makes up 'things' to make it sound better. The only meaningful part could have been written by a depressed 14-year old English student.

Another shit film - which is apparently a critical gem - is 'The House of the Devil'. I've never before been so underwhelmed by a horror movie, and I've seen a lot of shit horror movies. You wait and wait and wait, and when something does eventually happen, it's such a hackneyed, cliched attempt to induce fear that one almost cringes.

X-Blokes: Present and Future things

Yeah, that was pretty good when you compare it to some of the shitter X-blokes films. I laughed during that speedy bloke scene in the Pentagon. Why didn't they keep him along to help out? I'm not sure why Magneto went a bit mental though and I don't know what happened to him at the end.

Was there a credits scene? I always forget to wait for those.

Yep, showed us Apocalypse (supposedly the first mutant ever) in Ancient Egypt building the Pyramids with telekinesis.

So the next one will be about mutants in ancient Egypt? Does the end of this latest one mean that there will be no more X-blokes films with the current set of characters?

There's the odd moment of laughable acting, or sequences which don't quite work. It's one of the most important films for historical purposes but it has dated a little. It is good film though and certainly worth watching.

Haven't they just negated all previous X films now? I'm thoroughly confused...or are they just going to do alternative time films to replace all the past ones?

The X-Men films are just a cash cow, I view them as shiny toys which if lucky will have good action sequences and a story line that doesn't offend rather than genuine attempts at making a work of art. So watching them as separate entities (unless it's a direct sequel/prequel that plays on the previous films story) is the best way to go.

World War Z
I'm never listening to you muppets ever again. Thought it was an excellent Zombie film, one of, it not the best zombie films. Considering I'm used to the terrible Walking Dead Series, this was light years ahead. Glad I finally got round to watching it. Brad Pitt was very good. 7/10.
