Only one goal can really be blamed on poor defending

They still might......

Might have been nice to have conceded less goals, but Newcastle are a high scoring side and matches between us are often like this. I prefer 5-3 to us over 3-4 to them. And who say's we've finished scoring yet? We almost scored again.

Proves the point I think that we don't need to sell, we need to buy.

The bench is weak.

Well, I guess so, but I was trying to point out that the 3 against looks a bit harsher than it really is. Newcastle hardly hada kick in the first half and haven't looked much better this half.

This reminds me of the game at Elland Road last year.

For one Veron you could get 3 great midfielders.

I think this last 20 minutes or so again proves the worth of Ruud to the team. The ball isn't sticking up front as much now and thus giving the defence a bit of a break.

Every good attacking side has the defence as the "perceived problem" because you hardly keep clean sheets and sometimes give away some stupid goals.

It is in the essence of being an attacking team, defence will suffer. If we sat back and defended you would see them all as heroes, Pool being a glaring example.

If we start scoring as we used to there will be no need to worry about the odd goal.

I'm just not sure is all!
I think its
Ole Fortune Veron Richardson
Scholes
Giggs

which is bizarre.

Guess its just to keep possession and close the game out. Mind you, Giggs just had a shot at goal, but it was a bit tame.

5-3 <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

fecking cracking game that was! :D

At least we wont have any new moaning threads for at least a week now. Hopefully.

looked nervy at the back after blanc went off.. <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

good win...

four of the goals game from wing play/crosses.. shows how important width is in the PL...

I had actually prepared a topic to be posted at the end of the game telling everyone not to even dare make a comment! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Oh me, of little faith... :o

Barclaycard Man of the Match - Ruud Van Nistelrooy!!

Hat trick puts him on 8 goals in the Premiership, one behind leader Zola. Bet you Ruud will finish ahead of Zola, and it won't be long before he's top scorer - only Henry imo can keep up with him.

I think that's just because his hat trick... but if it is me to choose the MOM, I will choose among Scholes, Ole and Silverstre.

Everyone knows he's the business, best of the lot. If he hadn't had his injury and the slowness of him coming back from that he'd be the leading goal scorer easily. He's a gem.

It will not surprise me if he ends up top scorer in the Europe Cup again either. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

name me three 'great' midfielders we'd have been able to buy, for 28m, when we bought veron?

Highly entertaining! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Scholes was the best midfielder on the pitch - good call. There were so many to choose from though, the standard was very high.

Yes, and even Giggs has a good game after so many critizes he got recently.

The toon still haven't won a league match at OT since 1950, and only have 9 wins in the history of this fixture.

Wierd.

I think giggzy question is irrelvant. My answer is we should not use 28m to buy any midfielder in the world at that time. We badly need one more defender and if we have bought one at that time, our chance to win something last season would be greatly increased.

Like anyone knew who Silva was in the summer of 2001... As for Vicente, he's got a hefty get-out clause ofrcouce.

And your point is irrelevant unless you have got a time machine.

Thought the scoreline flattered Newcastle. Other then Shearers free kick they were poor. A fluke goal and some nervy defending made it appear closer then it was. We sure looked more like the old united today i for one want to see more of that. BTW OLE was man of the match today...

great??

vicente is only young, he's all potential...i'd get him for next season, however, along with Joaquin.

davids is past his best... and silva? which one are you talking about?

hardly three great midfielders..

great = ZZ, Ballack, viera etc etc.

zz went for 50m, Ballack and Vieira would have gone for nearer 30, if available.. altho' ballack went on a free, i think, to Bayern..

next season we must buy Rafael, Vincente and Joaquin...we saw today how important natural width is....
