Yes, but 18-20 is still attractive enough for me ;)

do we really need three midfielders on top of keane, giggs, butt, scholes, beckham, fortune, chadwick, richardson and stewart?

Great, great performance by United, we beat a good Newcastle side without some key players.
My MOM is got to be Scholes, good at tackling back, wonderful passing and a nice goal too..
his chips to the middle of Newcastle defence was exquisite.
and oh btw, right now, Liverpool are losing 2-0 to Fulham, and Arsenal are drawing 1-1 in Southampton. Finger crossed for a perfect day for United :)

The point is not there. What Neil mean was that we never need to spend so much money on ONE midfielder. We can get one who is good enough for us with one-third the price of Veron.

who?

we bought veron to take us to another level, we didnt buy another midfielder for the sake of it.

so who would you buy for £9 million that would have took us to another level?

im not saying veron did by the way that was the intention however and i dont think for £9 mill there is another midfielder that has the ability to.

There are plenty of them out there in the world, and our scouts should be responsible to find them out, just as how Arsenal found Vieira, Pires, Ljungberg, etc.

Firstly, I don't think Ljunberg=Scholes, they are totally different. Pires also not exactly like beckham.

Secondly, I use the three Arsenal players as example just to show that there are inexpensive players in the world who are good enough to play for us. I'm not saying we should get someone who is like Vieira, Ljungberg or Pires.

Thirdly, I always think we should buy a defender at that time, then a forward. Midfielder is the last thing we need.

Yes, but they are by the standard of over 10 years ago.

Of course, he is a legend.

I still remember he was a forward when he played for Forest. It's just amazing to see how he developed into the world's best defensive midfielder after joining us.

Have I remembered wrong? Actually I didn't see many Forest's matches at that time ;)

you certainly have,
hes allways been a midfielder. His job was to get the ball and "give it to my Nigel".
He played a bit for us at right back when he first arrived as we still had Robbo.

I see. Because I remembered he scored a lot of goals and always ran into penalty box in Forest, so I had an impression that he was a forward/attacking midfielder at that time.

Pires was hardly an unknown

I read somewhere that when Keane at Forest, he virtually played every position available on the pitch, excluding the goalkeeper. But mainly he played as a midfielder. If this true, perhaps the games you saw was one of the games he play upfront.

 I hate the way some ppl seem to want some of our players to fall flat on their face. He got 3 assists yesterday, yet this GIT stil wants to slag him  :(

OK, you're forgiven then. :)

Giggzy, there was no need to spend so much money on 3 players, at the time we could have spent the money on several players that would have strengthened our squad. If you're counter-argument is that we always get only the best players and always break the transfer record - then I think you're a muppet who thinks money grows on trees. Almost half our side came from the Academy, thats good business, and astute buying can get you world class players for cheap, like Henry and Vieira and its also possible to get quality on a free transfer, like Rivaldo or Inamoto. At the time we needed to improve our defence, instead we spent it all on a hugely expensive midfielder, weakening our squad depth. And then spent almost all our money last summer on just one defender when we all knew we needed a new forward too. Blanc at least was free, even if it was a short term panic buy.

"Mr. UTD" I am just calling spade 'a spade', your boyfriend in the first half was so bad I just wished I could grab him and..I am sure you remember the 9 min in the half where he got the ball 5 times, one he crossed from the left all the way, 20 yards above the post and close to the other corner flag.
Then he proceeded to give the ball 3 times to Newcastle, and then came the "assist" which you know it was a case of 'screw up'.
He is still at best a 4th striker, who so far played for 20 min where it looked like he belongs, and I was happy with that contribution, and more with his commitment than that excellent goal. But at 7.5 mils he is still a failure.
The good thing is that if we buy any of the strikers we are supposedly intrested in, he will hardly play much up front. Murty boy, I hope you are not CRAZY enough to suggest that he is ahead of Ole, unless "love" blinded you sweety. ;) :D

I never said he was in front of Olle and have allways maintained hes nr 3 at the moment.
I just hate it when "fans" want a player to fail and even go as far as to twist a decent performance to a rubbish one

When a UTD player perform well, it is to the benifit of the team, but when you feel a certain player is probably holding back a kid like Keiron R. from few min of exposure or worse in some cases, Just think how many times Fergie heard this from above when he tries to buy a new player' sorry we have just spent 7.5 mils on a player your bro recomended and it is too bad that he is not good enough, you have to sell now..'.
Now the ppl you are talking about have every right to criticize and even celebrate if he does well, since there is no Loyalty here, he joined us as a 7.5 mils player and not a trainee or appr. and certainly had enough time to show his worth and be conssistant by now.
As for the last game I would say his performance was less than average since he had a terrible first half and a good second, but his performence of course was not as good as you and some over optimistic people say it was. remember too that he had only one or two shots (as a centre half) at goal in a game we scored 5 and had so many chances.
Murty, you will soon forget this guy and will be singing the praise of our new striker(s). Deep down you must be a bit dissappointed, you must, common..its ok admit it..boy.. ;) <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />
