Because if a Democrat wins in 2020 but the Senate is still finely balanced, Manchin is still a likelier vote for Democrats than even the most "moderate" of GOPers like Collins. And the Republican that takes over from Manchin in Trump-loving West Virginia would take that seat, hold it for multiple cycles and be as anti-Dem as someone could possibly be.

By all means primary the guy, but he's literally just had one, against a progressive, and won it by 40 points. In a situation as shitty as the US Senate is for Dems, how picky can you be?
Democrats held west virginia for decades. I dont think it's a lost cause. I think the message they've been running on the last few cycles is not appealing to voters.
Then try out the new one against Capito in 2020. Don't gift the GOP 6 years of locked-in votes in the meantime.
Or we can just let the Democrats continue to do what they always do.
"Vote blue, no matter who" while the current west Virginia governor was elected as a Democrat and then switched parties to the Republicans 6 months after he was inaugurated.
How about we have a DNC chair who says "we will primary any Democrat who votes for kavanaugh". That is not too much to ask. And the Democrats cant even do that. They cant even oppose a rapist 100%. (@Revan)

Unless a critical mass population is reached in these conservative states about abortion and gay marriage, Republicans have it nailed down. They don't have to do shit about economy, health care, college or anything. It's remarkable that how policy wonks and nerds don't realize this.
I cant see that ever happening, to be honest. I have a political science degree and interned in the Michigan State House and my distaste for everyone there and everything about that environment turned me off of it entirely.

Well I am involved. Not as much as I should be but I've gone door to door, I'm a member of DSA, I donate time and money to things I believe in. I just dont think I could stomach actually being in politics myself.

Just pick a district and run. Make a list of your core policies, organize locally, create a small/private donation funding stream, and start campaigning.
Not much more difficult than if someone other than Kavanaugh was getting the job. Things like citizens united and the like weren’t going to get overturned in either case. The only difference would be if Kavanaugh finds himself involved in a decision involving Trump’s legal fate, where the guy who nominated him may be on the receiving end of a decision that benefits him. Other than that, a vast majority of the things Kavanaugh rules on will be in line with what any other Justice Trump may have nominated would rule on.
One difference between hardcore right wingers and the left is that if Kavanaugh is confirmed that a lot of the outrage over it will disappear and the repubs know it. The left likes to come to grips with things, or at least pretend it can move on, telling itself I am angry but what can I still do about it - it is what it is. It doesn't retain and focus the anger the way the right can. Credit to Trump for making it near impossible to focus on a single issue.
