Vålerenga vs. United [Preseason Friendly]

Have our players just forgotten that playing passing football means you're supposed to move when you don't have the ball as well as when you have it?

We're absolutely fecking depressing in possession these days. It always looks like the entire team's been dragged from a family funeral straight to the game.

I'm sure I'm missing something here, not knowing anything about advanced tactics, but I'm often a bit baffled as to why our players don't move towards the ball and into space more when playing from the back.

Sure, you can't all drop deep or you'll have no one to finish the move, but I get the idea we could be more dynamic at times.

We just don't seem to move at all. We haven't for months now. It's like we think we've earn't the right to play whilst standing still.

It's become quite embarassing how much people like Welbeck and Kagawa stick out just by moving off the ball a bit. There should be three or four people constantly doing that. Not one fecking player.

I don't understand it at all. Do we think we've become some super amazing version of Spain who are so good we can play like them whilst putting in barely a tenth of the effort they do?

Is this game being aired in Canada?

EDIT: Clearly missed the boat...summary anyone?

Looked very flat for about 35 minutes but then created several really nice chances and were unlucky not to score at least 1 by the end of the first half.

I drifted off a bit in the second half, a bit spotty overall but it's preseason and for a lot of these guys it was their first preseason game.

I know signing Lucas (if it happens) doesn't mean that we'll be letting go off Nani but if that does happen, it's going to be one of the most moronic transfer decisions in a long time. Nani is quite easily one of our best attacking players and he's the only one who seemed to be on the same wavelength as Kagawa. Can't wait to see the two of them and Rooney, Welbeck and Cleverley link up.

We should have gotten a penalty. Valerenga probably as well. They were the closest to scoring. Carrick was again put in CB in the 2nd half. Many players playing of position in different parts of the game.

Not much more to add really.

Welbeck looked lively in spurts, he was played through once where he really had to score but got the ball caught under his feet and the keeper was able to charge and get a touch.

Young was pretty anonymous, Nani was a bit wild but looked dangerous at times combining with Valencia. I didn't notice Rooney much, it would have been nice to.

Lou is also hilarious. He's constantly comparing Kagawa with Park.

We've been a bit shit in preseason. The Euros and Olympics have wrecked havoc with the squads.

I thought Kagawa looked like he has been playing here for ages, not one ball lost, his one two's were excellent while the only problem with us was finishing.

Powell was full of confidence today too probably from his reserve goal and looked much better in MF for his short cameo while Keane still ain't no left back but still didn't look too bad.

We were rusty, I thought Valencia was disappointing because he had so many chances to run at the opportunity but he didn't, maybe it was because he was playing RB but I expected more of the new No.7.

Nani is Nani, a hit and miss while Young hasn't been taking on players too much, but his crossing is still a good asset.

The thing that we were missing were the wing/fullback combo's as both pairs were brand new and didn't get the game flowing, we had most of the possession but none of our wingers really delivered so it was a tie.

Great to see Vidic back too even though he looked a bit wobbly from my Sopcast, but still he is massive for us when he's back into his usual form.

Can't wait to see United vs Aberdeen too, got the tickets already woohoo !

I know I'll ge shot down, but I really think Young is overated. Never been a big fan of his...

I actually agree with you. I think we could have bought better there. Not sure who but I am sure we could have spent the money more wisely.
