Because O'Shea offers absolutely nothing going forward, isn't aggressive, and is just nothing better than an adequate backup.

Brown and Rio would be a class partnership, and Brown would provide the aggressive element missing in CD. Silvestre's pace would be better utilized on the left while Heinze is out. I'd rather see a player with pace running down the flank than O'Shea. Micky's passing ain't great, but it's a bit better than O'Shea's.

Furthermore, it's in the best intersest of the club to play the best 11 (fit) players each match, when possible. O'Shea is, at best, the club's 5th best (fit) defender at the moment. Yet I get more optimism with Bardsley in the starting XI. So it's arguable O'Shea is the 6th best defender at the moment.

Any attempt to play Rooney behind 2 strikers or in midfield would mean we cannot afford Ronaldo's defensive non-presence - SAF would be sure to play Smith and Fletcher and another midfielder whose initials are not CR.

I think saha, ruud and rooney in the same starting line up will never happen. I cant see a change happening from the charlton game. Personally i hope we play park on the wing and drop fletcher or smith!

Given the weekend thats in it, West Ham is quite a tough place to go, as regards hostility. Utd. always get quite a hot reception there.
However, I feel that the vast majority of West Ham supporters, whom always appreciated quality football, will show great respect for the "minute's silence" & will desist from verbal abuse, through out the game, of the great George R.I.P. That said there is the usual very small minded minority at most clubs !
