Westminster Politics

That's really awful. It looks like the social worker was doing what they could but couldn't get the kind of help they needed to take action quickly enough.

The question of people living alone or with someone utterly dependant on them (whether with a young child or a seriously disabled adult, which was my situation for several years) is something I've been thinking about for over a decade.

Because of my background, I've been looking at it mostly from the technology side. But even if we perfect the technology and make it available to whoever wants it - it will still rely on a human with the right authority to actually do anything with the warnings it might create.

If the British can flout international law, then so can the Houthis. I mean, fair do's innit?

Not only are they despicable people, pathological liars and selfish thickos, they are also pathetic cowards.

yeah but imagine the state of the country if labour and corbyn is elected this year. the only safe vote is a conservative one.

He really is dangerously stupid, glad he’s no longer a thing in UK politics.

Completely agree with you.
If Corbyn was still the leader of the labour party. It would be the Tories who would have called and won the latest GE and been in power for another 5 years.
That is the reality of Corbyn as party leader.

Just heard everything he had to say in that clip and agreed with everything. Please create a party Corbyn, you'll get plenty of votes. Not enough to win because, people innit, but enough to cause a stir which we badly need.

TLDR; he wants peace between between Ukraine and Russia. But people are just too thick nowadays to understand full sentences and paragraphs, innit.

Who do you vote for?

Looks like the Labour campaign is again going to be 'we're not the Tories', only instead of Corbyn's batshit policies its going to be no policies at all.

I know loads of people who have said they will abstain.

Come on man. Everyone here seems to be saying this.

Labour had shitloads of policies signed off at conference. Tracker from conference onwards (including summaries). They’ve just aligned them to 5 key missions. Latest Refresh

I can accept anyone reading it, and shooting it to pieces. Whether that’s because they don’t go far enough, are too centrist or whatever. For me, there’s a lot of good in there, some great, and the pursuit of the Missions and policies for a decade would leave this country back on its feet, looking forward.

But politically engaged people, trotting out the line ‘Labour only offer “we’re not the Tories” and don’t have any policies’… Nah.

They’re standing on a pile of fully costed intent, and suggesting otherwise is just enabling the Tories. There’s a reason that these policies aren’t promoted. The Press.

Sunak lamenting 'the unelected House of Lords' - the very same one whose status he abused to get David Cameron in to his Cabinet???

That is the reality of Corbyn as party leader.

True, even now he is still burnishing his international socialist credentials, with this sort of garbage and he really doesn't give a flying feck about Britain and never has. How he ever got near to, never mind becoming being the leader of the Labour party, must be giving some Labour party politicians nightmares... even now.

Which election did Sunak win when he became Prime Minister? I forget.

Britain's a fecking shithole, with infrastructure decades behind the countries it pretends its on par with, whilst being more than happy to throw its most vulnerable on the bonfire because it turns out they're the ones to blame.
It is just such a shame that there is no legal or political way to reform or change the Lords in any way.
Starmer's going to do it.

Oh hang on that was binned already.

It's amazing how much effort goes into worrying about the safety of 30,000 asylum seekers, most of whom would be granted asylum if only their applications would be processed.
But apparently the deterrent is not the dangerous crossing but being sent to a safe paradise , otherwise known as Rwanda. Their safety would be assured by opening safe routes.

The 1,200,000 immigrants granted visas last year barely get a mention. Nearly a million of them from outside the EU.

And the actual illegal immigrants , visa overstayers etc, don't even get a mention.

Exactly that.
Were he to become party leader, which is extremely unlikely, the 2019 drubbing by the Tories would seem like a fantastic result.
But it is not going to happen thankfully.
And despite me not particularly liking Starmer as a person, he deserves credit for making Labour electable.

The Rwanda plan is just a gimmick. A gimmick by an interestingly desperate government.
Even yesterday, despite the freezing seas, more small boats attempted the channel crossing.

The chances of being one of the 500 per year who could be sent to Rwanda are tiny in the extreme.

The people traffickers are not stupid (how many have actually been caught) and will very quickly find out the numbers sent to Rwanda and assure their customers that the deterrent has passed, assuming it is indeed a deterrent in the first place.
And of course, the UK has signed up to a returns agreement with that country. Something Sunak conveniently omits to mention.

Two of the people trafficker leaders have been found. One in Ilford and one in Wolverhampton. There were almost no small boats prior to Brexit. Another thing they supposedly knew what they were voting for. No-one will be sent to Rwanda. But if they are, the UK can say goodbye to their trade agreements.

To anyone, ANYONE who even dares to suggest that this small boats gimmick is anything close to the nation's priority I simply have two words - Bronson Battersby.

Step One - say something dumb
Step Two - accept that you made a mistake and grow as a person avoid the mistake, blame others, try and change the subject, continue ranting until people give up talking to you so you can claim you've "won"

What a gormless cnut.

He’s shown his dislike for Brexit and the Tory contempt for Ireland and the EU in general. He no doubt also feels that diplomatically we aren’t really worth the effort compared to when we were a powerful EU leader.

Trump on the other hand will be there to facilitate all the disaster economic vulturing that Brexit was designed for.

Trump didn't give a toss about a trade deal last time he was in. They only want right wing nutjobs in Government.
