Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Interesting how he includes Bale there.

It's strange actually how despite all the hype nobody has been linked with him at all this Summer. I was expecting a shitload of articles linking him and such. Maybe the big clubs actually have cop on and realize that Modric is better than him.

Can't see them holding on to their best players.

Modric and Bale will both have left Spurs before the start of next season.

That was my first thought
Maybe we're reading too much into it, but it did seem strange as there has seemingly been no interest in Bale this summer so far

Plenty of clubs will be interested in Gareth Bale - but I doubt they'll sell both star men and I cant see Bale agitationg for a move, unless a bid is actually made.

Could be all sorts going on behind the scenes, or alternatively simply the case that clubs want to see if he can maintain last seasons for and stay injury free before they commit to anything.

Certainly got great potential and at the right club could be moulded into a terrific player.

So you're betting on Spurs getting everything right and everybody else getting worse? You're living in a dream world. In your best season, with everything going your way you barely made it to the fourth place. Spurs have to get a whole lot better and a whole lot stronger to take it to the next level because your current competition has more quality, depth and experience in winning.

I'm not complacent, I know Chelsea need to get younger and improve the squad. But I believe that we're still a far surer bet to finish in the top four or win a trophy next season than Spurs are.

Everything went our way that season? Are you talking out of your arse now?

Last season, despite being 'so far behind the competition', despite having crippling injuries at points throughout the season (and real injury crises, not the kind at Chelsea where three or four players are out at the same time) and despite going on a run of 1 win in 13 games I think, we finished...a huge 6 points behind the CL places.

Now before you all come charging in and mis-interpret what I said and accuse me of being a deluded spurs fan, we didn't deserve to finish in the top 4 places last season after that run of form. I didn't think we'd finish top 4 last season and don't think we will this season (though I would prefer to wait until 1st September before making predictions). Still, we're not the no-hopers that we're being made out to be and I seem to remember everyone similarly rubbishing our chances of finishing top 4 the season we did it, all the way though until we made it mathematically impossible for us to be overtaken.

I also remember everyone lauding Roy's business in the market last summer as well, saying how he'd improved this and that. We'll see with that one how Liverpool do.

Has anyone suggested Modric's desire to move was due to money? I'm sure Chelsea will pay him more but that's clearly not his main reason for wanting to move.

Bale doesn't represent value, and there is no benefit signing him now compared to giving it 1-2 years. The price spurs would demand would be crazy, whereas if you leave it a year and;

a) he has a bad season - price goes down or interest simply drops
b) he has a good season - price is hardly going to rise compared to what Harry will already be wanting for him, but he is more established and consistent, and one less year on the contract

To be followed by more clutching at straws on here from 7.15pm onwards.

yep
"Just 58 days till the close of the transfer window"
ssn is idiotic

I've come to the conclusion that 'Arry is a triffic lad, he's got great knowledge, triffic future as a pundit and would make a triffic addition to the SSN panel. Triffic.

Btw, Harry said: '£22 million is ridiculous for Modric, we don't want to sell him but... he can play in any team in the world. We don't want to lose him, we want to improve and don't want to lose him. If we made him available 2 or 3 clubs would be interested.'

He keeps saying 'we don't want to sell him', he's not saying 'we will not sell him'.

... He keeps saying 'we don't want to sell Levy has said Modric won't be sold ... so him', he's not saying 'we will not sell him'.
Levy has said that Modric won't be fold .... so whatever you think Harry has (or has not) said is entirely irrelevant.

When is Modric due to meet Levy?

If Modric tells Levy that he wants to leave then there is nothing he or Spurs can do, the fact that Spurs are not in the champions league are not likely to be participating for a few years does not bode well for Spurs.

The question is who will be next, Bale/VDV?

I never promised he wouldn't leave, all I said was that he won't be a sheep enclosure. Not now, not ever.

Sneaky fecker.

If Modric tells Levy that he wants to leave then there is nothing he or Spurs can do,

OK! One more time.

A contract is between to parties, the club and the player. It's there to protect both in case of disagreement. Modric has last year signed a lucrative five (Glaston- correct me if I'm wrong) year contract who gave him a (significant) pay rise.

After one year (of the contract) the player want's to move on to a club who can offer him CL football. Good for him but maybe not so nice for Spurs. What sort of club want to loose their best player, if they have the ambition to become a top 4 team and again play in the CL?

This situation give's the club two options.

1. Sell - if they get a offer they can't refuse.
2. Keep the player and tell him to honor his contract.

Then there is variable options for the player to show his displeasure. The most serious one is a transfer request. But here is the key to this saga.

If Spurs refuse to sell there is nothing the player can do. Modric can sulk and be as unhappy as he want but the contract stands until Spurs change their mind. This is maybe not so wise but every case is individual. And regarding THFC, I find Levy's stance perfectly logical and any other move would be counter productive, if not Chelsea come in with a crazy bid.

So stop blame Levy and Tottenham. They do exactly what we expect Sir Alex/Gill/Glazers to do if they where in a similar situation.

Wish they would just sell him to a top EPL club. We need to see him at a top side now...

GlastonSpur is as just retarded as those people who're saying he's definitely leaving Spurs. Editing peoples quotes and twisting peoples words? Come on people, you're better than that.

Harry is negotiating already.

So much for 'not for sale'.

If anyone is going to be negotiating, it would be Levy. The manager at Spurs has absolutely no say on the financial aspect of things, whether that be transfer fees paid or wages paid.

For all the respect I have for how he's progressed us as a club on the pitch, I realised a long time ago that Redknapp struggles to tell the truth. I take everything he says with a huge pinch of salt. Modric will stay or go on Levy's word. Not Redknapp's.

That's unlikely. I think it'll probably result in a transfer request which will be denied :cool:We'll see. I don't think Modric has any interest signing another contract with Spurs

He will come out and say that he has agreed on an improved contract...

Makes no sense.. He just got a new contract at the start of the last season.. If anything he will just announce that he will stay on.. Also if his long term view is to leave its hardly likely he will sign another contract to tie him down and making him less likely to leave..

Less than a couple of hours after SSN claim that Luka Modric will have showdown talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy comes the Press Association's insistence that no such meeting will take place as the Croat is not due back from his holidays until Thursday.

Funnily enough, they've stopped talking about Modric on SSN now.

He won't, because there is no meeting taking place today.

And nor will there necessarily be any such meeting at all. Modric signed a long contract and has been told in no uncertain terms that he won't be sold. Levy now considers the matter closed.

Sky now saying the meeting will be tomorrow or Thursday (when he's actually back at training)

With Modric wanting to speak to Levy, do you think GlastonSpur can smell the money? Or do you think it is about to leave a bitter taste?

I am going down the taste option, as Chelsea's master plan enters a new phase.

Either way, it will make me laugh if he leaves and the Glaston forks out the banknotes.
