UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

So whats the other option, sit back and let them do whatever they want in the hope they'll eventually get bored and bugger off? While in the process, ruining homes, businesses, cars public transport etc etc

No we cant let it carry on and something needs to be done and very fast before it really gets out of hand.
If they do go in and make mass arrests there will be injuries and more than likely death.
Has Hectic said it is a very tough choice but one that somebody has to make.

South London is going to get involved in this by the evening surely.

Wait until us boys in South West get the go ahead.

Greggs is getting a right doing over

London riots: 'Looter' posts photo of himself and his booty on Facebook | Mail Online

I wish everyone caught on camera is made to pay severely for their actions.

Hopefully the police have a scale of counter measures in mind. If these idiots decide to escalate then they should be met with an equal or greater force. Anyone staying out there looking for trouble will deserve what comes their way. They can't be allowed to think they "run the streets".

rumours that it's going to kick off in birmingham.

twitter talk, mind.

Why can't these hooligans make themselves useful and head over to Buckingham Palace?

Looking at the news right now and it seems to be all kids.

High Barnet...ffs...

1739: Toby Carvery in High Barnet is said to have been smashed in.

Quick backtrack... The guy's a fecking rebel rouser....

1739: Toby Carvery in High Barnet is apparently OK, according to someone standing next to it. That’ll teach me to sit on new info for a moment before putting it out!

I work directly opposite where the main problems were last night in Brixton. Crazy situation there. My boss had to come out and explain to the police that we needed to get into our building to work. We were then not allowed leave. The place looks completely fecked up. Foot Locker along with a variety of other buildings were completely ransacked and burnt to the ground

BBC News is showing a group of people breaking into shops in Hackney. The police are just standing in a line about 50 metres down the road, allowing it happen.

Yes because if they challenged them and ended up scrapping, it is people like yourself that would claim brutality.

It's a tough situation. Do you risk escalating the situation, or do nothing, and give rioters a sense of uncontested power? I'm not sure it's going to stop on it's own accord, and the less police seem to do, the more people will join in.

I would tend to agree. What's happening right now is that people are saying 'feck it...it's happening everywhere so I'm going to represent the cause in my borough' and then off it goes.

The main problem is that there are total scum bags in every London borough that wouldn't think twice about rounding the troops and causing problems like the ones we're seeing now in Hackney and Lewisham

Who reckons this has anything to do with the lad who was shot anymore?

I've got a few friends and family as far out as Romford, Essex and there is plenty of talk of it kicking off there too.

It's a tough situation for the police, I'd love for them to beable to go in and crack skulls (literally) but obviously that's not how to deal with it. As with the student 'protests' it's nothing to do with any cause any longer, it's just scumbags looking to act tough and steal some shiny new stuff.

But then that's what happens when you have a system that is far too soft, even the ones who get caught know whatever happens to them, they won't suffer at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if student groups started coming out too.

Time is running out for Cameron and Clegg, methinks.

I know it's probably not a great idea, but a media blackout might have been a worth a try. Obviously the idiots aren't relying on the Beeb or Sky to egg them on or to help them organize, but it's almost like the more everyone talks about it, the more it drags on.

In Lewisham, a man tried to hi-jack a bus and drive it into riot police.

It's kicking off everywhere now I think this is going to be the worst tonight nowhere in London is going to be safe tonight quite scary really

It's already kicking off in Birmingham, it's spreading fast. Police have to get involved, otherwise people all over think they have free reign. It all kicked off in Hackney because a boy was stopped and searched, that was it. He wasn't even searched, just asked to be searched, and everyone around him went crazy. It's completely mental.

The only thing I can see this having do to politics, is from the early 90's we've been getting softer and softer on crime, especially of the violent nature. Now these kids have grown up with no fear (and armed), because they know even if they do go down it's like a holiday camp and if they get hurt, it's a fat wad of cash coming their way.

get a grip

we have the TA but dont think its the same.

Well someone needs to be called out, if this isn't stamped out tonight, it'll be everywhere tomorrow night.

Tossers with nothing better to do, just wrecking havoc on local businesses, public and private property. Obviously with the amount of CCTV London has, they'll get arrested soon enough, but the damage will be done by then.

Who has the authority to activate curfews, maybe enforce curfews in some of the hotspots after midnight for a couple of nights to help take the steam out of this thing.

Well, it's massively escalating despite the police doing next to nothing, and it's not going to die down on it's own accord, so surely some action has to be taken?

Cameron has to return to London and declare a state of emergency.

The police do not have the capability to deal with this if it goes citywide, they are struggling as it is. If these little shits want a fight then we should introduce The Parachute Regiment to the equation, lets see how brave they are throwing flares and stones then.
