UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

really is so sad to see all this.

clear heads needed on all sides or this is going to get a lot worse.

It's getting worse and the police can't do anything and the govt won't do anything. Most people can see the threat of race riots erupting, most people have seen the police have no control of the situation but still the govt sits and watches. Use water-cannons, impose curfews and call in the army before this turns into street-war.

Sorry if I sound drastic but this is not going to magically get better, the govt needs to take a lead but instead they've let us down.

Those 2 people dying in Bham will defo spark something. They won't let that go.

Its not, London is quiet tonight, Birmingham less than last night.
The worse is over, stop being so dramatic.

That is what I fear. I hope the Muslim community leaders encourage restraint and spread that reprisal attacks cannot happen, especially during Ramadan.

It will start back up again with the incidents of tonight from Birmingham.

BBC and Sky are nowhere to be seen regarding these deaths. Pathetic, no wonder Upinder went on a rant. He was crying as well I think.

I hope you're right but I don't agree with you. There may be a lull in London but Manchester, Liverpool, Gloucester, West Brom and other places erupted with violence in the past 12 hours. The incident in Birmingham will not help.

I doubt those places will get as bad as London though.

Sangat still going strong at 3:40am, one reporter on Southall Broadway. Too late for me to stay up now so I'm off. For any one early reading up who need quick update, 2 pakistanis have been killed in B'ham.

If reports of the two guys dying are true then we're truly fecked. The looters we are seeing in Bham will be in thier houses tonight. Aston is the last place you want to kill an Asian, I pray that these guys don't start rioting now because it will be at least a couple of notches above what we've seen so far.

Pretty much this, the anger in that crowd outside the hospital on Sangat TV was extraordinary... understandable though. A whole community sharing that same anger and pain... it's not going to end well, for sure.

Mate, the Aston guys are something else. Five or so years ago, one of thier guys got killed by someone and they STILL walk around wearing T-shirts with his name and picture on it. The area is full of drug dealers and firearms are in abundunce there. I hope no one innocent gets hurt but I doubt it... these guys will be the new martyrs

Been better contained than last night not as much news coverage but a few vehicle fires and large groups congregating in areas with some skirmishes, nothing massive on last nights scale though

An update on Odlbury/Soho Road Birmingham/West Brom:

it seems a network has been created within the sikh community whereby if a sikh temple is targeted in the riots then you can call a number which sends sikhs straight to the location!

i know that my close friend took the night off work to head around all the sikh temples in the surrounding areas of oldbury/soho road etc and rested at the place with the least security which was situated at the end of soho road (not the main sikh temple, there is a smaller one) hes been there the whole night with 15 other sikhs, no signs of any trouble there or at the bigger soho road temple!

fake reports doing the rounds of oldbury temple being set on fire, but two confirmed reports are that 3 rioters tried to attack the temple on the main road in west brom where they were met by 3 singhs outside guarding the temple that rushed them and knocked one of them out before the other 2 ran off, 3 singhs returned to duty, rioter left on the floor to pick himself up an hour later, no sign of police or ambulances, busy in the city centre in west brom. also a late report from my friend who also told me a man was chased in his audi from oldbury to smethwick temple in birmingham by 2-3 rioters who then got out the car and were again met by more singhs guarding the main temple in smethwick but this time one of the rioters was stabbed.

all will be confirmed in the morning, sorry i havent got any other news, the few people that i do know are part of the sikh network protecting temples from being damaged/looted, i'll find out more when i speak to him this afternoon!

Seems odd that looters would target temples. Would have thought electrical goods stores and jeweler's would be more their thing. All the more so, knowing there are so many people guarding the temples. Did any get broken into the night before?

Hindu and Sikh temples tend to have expensive gold statues, that might be what made the locals nervous.

Also very sad to hear about the 3 blokes that died in Birmingham after being run down, I suppose this was the danger of people trying to take law enforcement into their own hands :(

I don't think you can question the strangeness of anything they do considering how stupid they seem to be

Seriously weak gene pool amongst these guys. I didn't see one single interview with a looter than shone a bright light. None of them could string sentences together and the knowledge level from a political point of view was at an all time low

Did you really expect a looter to spout off about Marx, Gramsci, globalisation, the socio-political impacts of multi-culturalism, the perils of European Federalism, the dangers of Murdochian media hegemony and the Sneijder transfer?

They rob stuff because they are too thick to earn money to pay for it.

I don't think it's their genes.

Heavy rain firecast for the next 3 days in the North West. That's that then.

Boris Johnson calling for government to reconsider it's plans for reducing police numbers.

Not that its of utmost importance but the decision will be made on whether football goes ahead at weekend later today

i can see it being called off just in case

the police dont have the numbers

Unfortunately it's had to come to something like this for people to realise just how stretched we are.

Apparently a decision will be made on Thursday.

Should've stole some umbrellas.

Indeed. Scrotes don't like the rain.

With the shackles they have on them, I doubt it would make much of a difference.

1 of the biggest issues was that the looters were split into several groups. It was a game of cat and mouse as a result because we could only chase them from 1 place to another.

More officers certainly wouldn't have hurt our chances, plus the Met wouldn't have had to be supplemented with Officers from pretty much every other force.

There's rumours it's coming to Bolton on Thursday which could easily escalate into race wars as racial tensions are already pretty high. I, for 1, will be praying for massive downpours.

I wonder how much of the quietness of last night was due to people being a) knackered and b) worried about losing the previous night's haul if they got themselves arrested.

an authoritarian reading is that this is a generation with a false sense of entitlement, created by the victim culture fostered, and overall leniency displayed, by the criminal justice system. It's just a glorified mugging, in other words, conducted by people who ask not what they can do for themselves, but what other people should have done for them, and who may have mugged before, on a smaller scale, and found it to be without consequence.

That's it in an oversized nutshell for me.
