Understandable to be worried. Hate to say it, keep having my heart in my mouth whenever we're up against a free kick or corner. Hopefully he comes good as he settles in.

I hate to admit it, but I do have nightmares when we concede a freekick near our penalty area, or a corner.

He just needs to settle.

Give him time. But this is why I prefered Neuer, he's more ready. Couldnt get him

I reckon he was Fergie's first choice. But that was Bayern all the way and even he has made a mistake at his new club.

Mental reserve is the key now with De Gea.

Really thought we'd start Lindegaard today and give De Gea more time to bed in, especially with communication with the defenders. Anyhoo, he's playing and am sure he'll do better next time he is called upon.

Come on De Gea - it's just 1, as long as you don't make it 2 we'll win this.

Same. And I am a huge fan of his. There was also one time when he got blocked off and looked dodgy.

We just paid £18m for a new keeper, no way would we not throw him in despite Lindegaard's promise.

Think it's time for our man to step it up....

Happens lads.

Patience is what young players needs.

He has a superb goal saving ratio for athletic madrid. He has got a proven track record of being an outstanding goalkeeper. Time, experience is all he needs in the premiership. With our goal keeping coaching etc, he will be great for us.

tbh, I expected mistakes from him the second we were guaranteed to get him. But unlike when Foster had his nervous start, De Gea doesn't have VDS injured waiting to come back, so as long as he doesn't get dropped after like 5 games, even if he does cost us a few points, he should be ok, these few months are a huge learning curve for him. If he gets through them, you are talking about a potential 15 year goalie here.

Going to emphasise the fact he has not played a home game.

Wembley full of 40,000 Away fans

Hawthornes - Being an away day.

I know i'd feel the pressure. Im sure being at home will help him settle in.

Goalkeepers are always going to make mistakes. They can look like schoolboys at any time in their careers. They can be 28 years old and all of a sudden look like shite after being a well respected keeper only to get back on the world stage in their late 30's.

To me it seems wierd that this keeper never had the reputation of making these sort of mistakes when he's already made two in two games.

The nerves will go in time. At least he's not making mistakes coz he's a clown who couldn't care less, like Barthez.

I do think all that's needed with De Gea is time and patience and if we have to suffer a bit in order to establish someone in the team that can shine in goal for another decade than that's a price I can easily pay.

I do think though that signing Lindegaard showed incredible faith in De Gea - ie: having someone even less experienced as the main back up. I also don't think it helps that Lindegaard keeps talking about how much he wants to be Nr 1 right now - I was glad when SAF effectively shut him up by declaring De Gea as his Nr 1. I reckon we'd have been better to buy an experienced 30 year old as back up, should it eventually be needed, rather than Lindegaard.

I hope so.

Potential and goal keepers can be very dangerous.

This is because mistakes cost you points, and title races are often won by the smallest margins.

I hope we don't ever get to the stage where we start wondering what could have been if De Gea didn't make random gaffs.

If we draw this game, gea cost us. He's young and I like him but it's the sad truth.

If both Vidic and Ferdinand are injured for the next couple of weeks De Gea's life just got harder - far, far easier to ease your way into the team behind those two than youngsters including Jones who has to ease himself into the team himself anyway...

If he continues to concede, and we continue to win, I am happy with that.

I felt sorry for the lad, and I rarely do for players. He's the same age as me, in a foreign country, doesn't speak the language. He got cleaned out a few times and the ref did nothing. We need to have patience with him.

It was a mistake but wasnt as bad as the matchday thread made it sound like

Needs to bulk up.

he really does.

apart from that he looks a bit naive- there a moment in the first half when we ere defending a corner. he bounced off one of the WBA players and stop playing expecting the ref the blow the whistle.

flapped corners, soft goals conceded but i still have my faith in him. at least his distribution is top notch.

Tbh he has looked more confident playing behind Evans-Jones to me. Both today and against City. Playing behind 2 guys like Rio-Vidic can be a burden because they expect so much from those around them. VDS had no trouble with that but can be a strain on someone as young as De Gea. Lindegaard said the other day it took a long time before he felt accepted, I think De Gea feel the same thing.

Does really need the time to adapt to the PL and learn English to improve his communication to get his confidence up. Got to get it out of his head that he's succeeding VDS.

The biggest problem for De Gea is that he's never going to get the shots at him on regular intervals except for against big teams. He barely touched the ball for 30 minutes 'similar to City' so it's not easy to quickly focus to the limited attacking play. He'll get there but it will take time. I think people will underrate his aerial ability. He proved last week that it wasn't an issue.

His distribution on the other hand is

I felt he should have been taken off when it seemed that his confidence was gone - when you're drawing, it's not the time to show faith because it looked to me like the rest of the team was unsettled.

He's only 20 though, and it can't be easy being in a new team and a new country. Needs nurturing a bit more

Someone in the match thread mentioned that he seems better with quick reaction saves rather than when he has too much time to ponder a situation. I'm sure Steele will sort him out.

With two injuries after the mistake, thank feck you're not manager!

Subbing De Gea? May as well tell him to pack his bags and head off back to Spain then.

His distribution is superb and he is natural with the ball at his feet. These are the most important things to look for in a keeper, so I am very satisfied with de Gea.

From that post I'd say you need to settle. Been here for one game and is 20 years old. Calm down. He will be class.

My worry is a cold wet night in Stoke.
