Berbatov | Fulham player

All's not well in the Berba-camp. Christ knows what we're going to do if he hasn't signed a contract before the end of the transfer window...

I wouldn't sign a new contract if I was relegated to the bench coming off that season, Hernandez/Welbeck or whoever coming in.

I understand Berba, and in a way, the logical thing would have been to let him go this summer. If not, why give Owen a new contract? Macheda and Diouf have to go though that's a given, Macheda probably on loan and Diouf probably permanently, although he is a goalscorer, the lad, he isn't United quality IMO.

I am sure Randy will still bump this thread if Berbatov starts on the bench again today. Or not.

I don't think there's an issues. Sir Alex is again praising his attitude and we have the option of another year. I guess that's the difference between players who want to be here and those who don't and that can go for any club. We accepted a bid for ole, but he wanted to stay and Berbatov seems cut from the same cloth. We might not have accepted a bid, but he's certainly willing to be patient and fight for his future here.

Wait, Berbatov is happy with the situation and understands the importance of rotation without complaining once?

fecking sell him right?

RF, please bump the thread if he doesn't start today. It's clear all is not well and Fergie clearly has problems with him.

I'm finally ready to admit everything is wrong in the Berbatov camp.

With this added one year option I can think of no reason at all why the club would not simply trigger it now. It would end speculation and probably make Berbatov (a confidence player) feel a whole lot better and secure.

I have no idea if he will go or stay before September but it is laughable that some appear blind that the club have not or are not at least considering selling him for the new season

Laughable. And he has a shit attitude, can't believe he is happy to wait for his chance, its really pathetic. Do you not think it was possible Berbatov was told a while ago, probably around the time the club said we had no interest in selling him?

RF, all I'll say is this, read through your last 40 comments in this thread. You've worked on the assumption Sir Alex has been keen to sell him, and desperately wants to do this. Ignoring the statement from Berbatov, the statement from the club via Gill, and the obvious reasons as to why it doesn't make sense in general. From today, we have it from Fergie himself that he isn't remotely entertaining the idea, and it seems this has not been the case once. I've been saying it's really stupid to jump to conclusions based on what you feel Fergie might be thinking, and assume we definitely want to sell him, when we've had multiple lines from the player and club to disprove that. We've done the whole we will see sooner or later thing, and now it's here, so where do you go from here?

Honestly though, I had a great laugh reading through your posts. I think we sold Berbatov something like 42 times in the past few weeks.

in which 13 of his 20 goals came in 4 games. 7 in all others. not a great season , great games in which he had three hatters and a 2 goal game.

did he score in CL or the FAC?

What difference does it make? Was he not instrumental in winning the title? Do we have to look for all the negatives possible, but ignore everything he did to help us actually win? End of the day, if you were offered that season by Berbatov before it started, you would have bitten someones hand off, we all would. He was still top scorer in the league and for us, so don't act like it was an irrelevant season from him.

He scored more winners than anyone else.

You've made a good point here. After an appallingly shit finish to the previous season nobody in there right mind would have expected him to get 20 goals last season. All in all a succesful season i'd say.

Every single one of us would have taken 20 goals from Berbatov without question. Only since its actually happened, it has to be questioned completely.

Hectic i think nobody is denying how crucial he was in the first part of the last season. Sadly that was his only time at the club when he reached expectations we had when he first signed him.

But that's not my point at all. A lot of people do not class last season as a particularly good one, which is ridiculous. Leagues are not won on half a season alone.

In his first season with Spuds he scored 12 league goals. In his second, 15.

What exactly were you expecting? Alan Shearer?

Why sadly? Is it not a good thing that he started to reach expectations? Even if I agreed that Berbatov was a waste of space before then, why should judgement of his performance last season be tempered by what happened in the seasons prior?

Aren't you a United fan? Because that's an odd thing to say if you are. I'd fecking sign a contract if they promised me at least one game all season. feck, I'd sign it if they promised me at least one game with the reserves.

It's almost as if Berbatov's willing approach and attitude towards our team as a whole and what is best for us is almost used against him. It's a rarity to find a player of his quality accept that the manager knows best when to use him, and understands the importance of rotation, without making vibes of discontent. Why would we want to get rid of that? Given we know he is an excellent player, and that he is content with how and when he is played, what exactly is the problem? It's basically the same premise as Owen's situation and attitude, except he is much better for us. Is that worth more then selling him off for a reduced fee to another club? It shouldn't be a question. Ask yourself, should we have sold him to PSG the season before last for that fee? Was it worth keeping him, of course it was.

It is rare. No chance would Rooney accept being in the same position.

Maybe Berbs is pulling a Winston Bogarde and enjoying doing feck all but yet picking up a nice pay cheque.

Or maybe he really is a one in a million non selfish footballer

I don't think it's near either extreme. The chances are, and through the interviews he's given which attest to his character, and the words from club and teammates, we can deduce that Berbatov is a professional who acknowledges the fortune he has at playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest. If that means sacrificing his game time, but to experience football and accolades at this level, it's one worth making, which he has actually said himself.

I'd also wonder what doing alot means, if feck all is getting 41 goals in 97 league starts.

I was never his no 1 fan but how he is being treated goes beyond ridiculous now. There's no way Welbeck is better then him. If a good offer comes in or we end up bringing in a new CM then I believe that he'll be off.

erm sorry i dont know who this berba fella is

can we lock this thread, its useless much like this so called "player"

ooohhh i went there, lets see is anyone gonna take the bait now

who? is he the fella with the red face and horns that runs around before the game and at half time?

welbeck could be out for quite some time now.. berba's chance will eventually come. he still has a part to play for us.

welbeck injured indeed, therefore the order of picking would be

1 rooney
2 chicarito
3 owen
4 this berba fella i keep hearing about

y no Berba today?

He was on the bench today. Now Welbeck's (sadly) out the equation for probably 4/5 weeks, and with no Owen or Macheda ahead of him today, he is minimum third choice.

Berbatov won't play at all against Bolton, and everyone on here will shit themselves. Then he'll start up front on his own against Benfica. I'm tempted to put money on it, if that's a thing you can do.

In a recent interview SAF was asked whether Ashley Young would play in the center, and he said that it was unlikely because United already had Rooney, Berbatov, and Giggs who could play there.

Now I don't know why some persist in talking as if Berbatov is competing with Welbeck and Chicharito to lead the line. Berbatov is best in the support striker role which Rooney occupies.

If Rooney should get injured this season, then we'll be thanking our lucky stars that we have Berbatov to step in and play regularly. No way we sell Berbatov. And at Berbatov's age he may wish he were playing, but I think he knows that leaving United can only be a step down.

Well he is going to get his chances now Berbatov. Lets see if he can contribute like he did last season.
