Berbatov | Fulham player

No excuse for not at least getting that last one on goal, though we really didn't deserve the win, and he was offside anyway, so was probably just as well.

Should've come on earlier though.

So we defend like total clowns, the midfield was a shambles, but the bloke who came on for 9mins and missed a half chance is to blame..?!

Anyone who will criticize Berbatov after his 9 min cameo should get his/her head checked.

Nitpicking a bit but instead of shooting at the last, he really has to put that across the box. But I was pleased with the little cameo nonetheless.

His every contribution wouldn't get nearly as much scrutiny on here if a thread like this didn't exist, but it does and theres people always bumping it to the top so its always right there for people to vent if he wastes a chance like tonight.

I think people are quick to criticise him tonight because of the Stoke game. Being fazed out of the team about 6-7 months ago when he was scoring for fun hasn't helped his confidence. He has gone from being as sharp as a samurai sword to as blunt as a butter knife. Everyone is scoring apart from him. Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and even Owen.

Problem is - in what situation can we really rely on him?

Only time in nearly 4 years he's been fully reliable to perform how we want him to was when Rooney was massively off form, Hernandez still extremely new, and Berbatov felt he was the main man. We have 7 strikers now and he really doesn't take his chance when given to him

We've just drawn a CL game at home by playing poorly and all you can do is moan about Berba. Give it a rest ffs, he only played 10 mins at the end.

Concentrate on the issue and get moaning about the team's overall performance tonight....

....and don't forget to moan about the players who made a balls up at the back and in midfield too.....

I'd really like to see him end this drought. It's a stat that's being used against him too much.

But tonight you can't really give him too much blame after such a short introduction. That shot should have been a pass to someone on the line instead, but at least he tried to make an impact. It was the other guys on the pitch who dropped points for us.

I'd like to see him pitch in after February to be honest, that would do for this season!

Don't care what he did today or in the Champions League as 4th choice striker he won't play much in the competition (Fingers crossed - as it means Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck are injured).

I don't really have any criticism of him tonight but I would say that it's clear his confidence is at a real low at the moment and that seems to be affecting his play.

He isn't trying the touches, passes and flicks that make him so effective and it's a part of his game that we need from him when he's called upon.

bound to be his fault that he didn't score at least two in his eight minutes...

What you are saying works both ways. He can't be relied upon to score/create when he's brought on as a sub. Maybe we need somebody mor clinical off the bench in future?

This discovery is nothing new though. Berbatov isn't an impact player/sub and that has been obvious since the beginning. The only purpose he serves really is a decent understudy to Rooney that can bring a bit of experience to attack.

Was an unused sub in yesterday's game. And with welback scoring it seems that he is our forth choice striker for now.

I really feel bad for Berbatov. He clearly wants to do well and loves the club, but he doesn't really fit into our style of play. He's also upped his workrate a ton since he's gotten here to try to get in the squad. When he's confident, he's a brilliant player. He's just not been able to get on the pitch enough this season to build up into what he can be. A beautiful Bulgarian butterfly.

Quite possibly the worst post line I have ever read "A beautiful Bulgarian butterfly"

His work rate has not noticably improved at all

My feelings exactly ( apart from the butterfly )

Very much 4th choice for me at the moment, more because of his style of play than anything else.

I've thought that his style of play does suit us at the moment. Great control, one touch play and good vision. He's a bit too laid back though. I would like to see a bit more of him though.

Plays too deep, doesn't make any sort of move beyond the line of defenders. Holds the ball far too long.

Doesn't suit how we're trying to play.

And Berbs best form was when Rooney was out.

So let's drop Rooney?

Im not saying he's not a great individual player I just think we're looking to play one deep lying striker and one Welbeck/Hernandez type.

Rooneys better in the deep lying role and Welnandez are better playing off the shoulder.

Hence Berba is in no mans land at the moment.

The only two that's behind him at the moment is Macheda and Diouf.

I love Berbatov. At the end of the day, he was our top scorer in the season where we finally overtook Liverpool and became the most successful club in English football. That should never, ever be forgotten.

But this season, he just can't catch a break. Rooney is the main man up front, and his partner will either be Welbeck or Hernandez. Owen has a couple of goals to his name, sure in the Carling Cup, but he has still scored. Right now, Berbatov is looking like he's 4th, possibly 5th choice in our strikers.
