Sensational. Even if this was still 0-0 I would still be praising his 1st half. Dropped deep and got involved loads of link up play. Was terrific. We have a star on our hands

Think thats his 9th goal. Does anyone know how many starts he has?

Was pretty amusing that some people had him below Owen and Berbatov in the pecking order just two or three days ago. We've a star on our hands.

Really? Who?

ESPN says he has 2 goals in 3 games in the EPL with a sub, none in 1 sub in the CC. So with these 2 in the CL, he's got 4 in 4 games, with 2 sub appearances.

He's also got 2 in 3 for the U21.

Pleased for him. I was hoping the hamstring injury wouldn't break the momentum he had built up at the start of the season. Looking great.

It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy seeing local lads coming through and doing well for the club

No slight on Macheda, but how can he possibly be perceived to 'easily overtake Welbeck'? I mean, seriously?

If you asked me before the Sunderland loan I probably would have said the same.

In fairness to a lot of you especially KM if I remember rightly he gave out to me for saying Welbeck hadnt a chance this time last season.

Sometimes it feels good to be so very wrong

Before the Sunderland loan I would still have argued it but could at least understand there being some people who may disagree.

That post was made a few days ago though!

7th game, 4th goal? Tottenham, Arsenal, now two v Basel.

Do you count the Community Shied?

CS v City, off 88th.
EPL v West Brom, off 64th.
EPL v Spurs, off 81st, goal and assist.
EPL v Arsenal, off 35th, goal.
CC v Leeds, on 69th.
EPL v Stoke, on 69th.
CL v Basel, 2 goals.

Hasn't finished a game yet, so his minutes per goal rate should be higher because of it, along with the 2 late subs and only 1/3 of the Arsenal game.

On the whole he had a good game I guess.

Not quite back to where he was - just missing a touch of sharpness, but he'll be there next game or 2!

Definitely would have got a hat-trick had he been sharper!

Tbh yes, took his 2nd goal well but overall thought his support play was poor. But at the end of the day scored 2 so can't complain.

Still needs to get some experience. Missed a header that probably would of got us a goal, few flicks and touches were not great. How ever he's got a lot of talent and give him regular games and he'll be starting for England in 2012.

Very good first half, disappeared completely in the second.

Loving his attitude:

Man Utd striker Danny Welbeck on his side's dramatic draw with Basel: "It feels like a defeat as we started the game so well. Manchester United should be finishing games like this. I'm over the moon to get two goals but it's a team game and I'm bitterly disappointed. We are very disappointed with the result but we have got to get on with it. "

Its like Neville said, he just needed to add goals because his build up play was never really in question. So far this season he's been doing that, carrying on from his hot run before injury at Sunderland last season

Have to admit I had Macheda ahead of him before his loan spell, I really couldn't see him making it at the club and thought he resembled Bambi on ice more than a professional footballer.

I was totally, unequivocally, wrong. He's improved, a lot, in a relatively short space of time. Definitely lots to work on still bit he looks like the real deal.

I'm glad his injury hasn't affected his scoring form. He deserves to continue getting games after that performance. Some players let our team down badly after he effectively put the 3 points in touching distance for us.

His second half was disappointing but i'm sure he will regain his excellent build up play very soon.

I'm concerned about his running style and quick changes of direction. It looks susceptible to injuries.

Welbeckinho - suffered a bit in the 2nd half like the rest of the team, but we also have to remember he is still regaining full match fitness.

Very happy to see him scoring, he started the season so well, and then to get injured, the longer it took him to get a goal again, the more tense he would have gotten(with confidence being such a big deal for a young player).

He'll be disappointed with the result for the team, but individually, he'll know, he's back.

Danny scored 6 goals in 28 matches for Sunderland last season(not all in a central position, and not to forget his injury came just when he had settled down).

But this season he already has 4 goals from 7 matches - if he can stay fit, 12-15 goals in all comps is a real possibility, and it would be a fantastic return.

Fantastic start to the season for Danny - he just keeps scoring. He seems to have it all and at this point, he'd be my first choice to partner Rooney. Fits our new style of play about as well as you could ask for, far more so than Berbatov or Hernandez. Ridiculously pleased that he's taking his chance so well.

A start for England will send his confidence into over drive.

I'm a massive Berbatov fan, but Danny is fully justifying his place ahead. Pace, movement.

It's just more fluid. Sorry Dimi :(

He loves to be out there as well, constantly giving his all. I can't say he's more joyous than Chicharito, that's impossible, but he oozes enthusiasm to do whatever it takes.

He's got silks.

Don't think he was as sensational in these last 2 games compared to the start of the season - think he's still finding his form, confidence, touch, and movement again.

But he's still scored 3 vital goals in 2 games! I look at him and I still think there is so much more to come. I chuckle when people say he has a poor first touch as I know his 1st touch is great - but must be a confidence type of thing.

Remember this guy scored a 30-yard SCREAMER on his debut - not many have done that. I think Rooney did.

I look forward to and I'm salivating at the player he will become.

Works his arse off, loves the game, loves the club. Berba will probably leave, I'm not sure any of us want him to but he won't get much game time with three ahead and three behind in the pecking order.

There are some players at United whose touch I completely trust. When they receive the ball under pressure I'm calm. Others, I'm worried. Welbeck is somewhere in between. His touch can be sensational or extremely poor. You just never know.
