Manchester United Vs Manchester City.

Hopefully Cleverley makes the bench.

I know its crazy but id play:

De Gea
Smalling
Jones
Evans
Evra
Nani
Anderson
Carrick
Young
Rooney
Welbeck

Only thing missing is Cleverley from that lineup but id put Rio, Vidic, Chico on the bench. Even before his sending off Vidic was quite sloppy yesterday. I can see Rio playing though in place of one of Jones or Evans.

We will probably see Giggs and Fletcher in central midfield with Park on the wing.

Is it me or do we always play the other big sides first in the first half of the season, then end up playing them away in the second half

Oh and, we're getting bummed in this. Watch us go down quicker than Rimaldo at a truckers convention (my prediction vs Liverpool, Arse and Chelsea)

If City come out and have a proper go at us which I'm expecting them to do, this match will be an absolute classic.

I'm expecting them to play for a point. Especially now that they're top of the league. If its all square with 15 minutes to go you can be sure only one team will be trying to win it.

I do think will be more positive this time around. there's just far too much offensive quality in there to play for a draw right from the off. but yes, as kps88 said, if its all square in the last 15-20mins, they'l settle for it.

Can't decide on this at all, a win for us, a draw or a buy for them.

I've got a feeling that with all the quality they have brought they might buy this, its going to be difficult for us to win, although a draw is likely too.

Anyone else worried that Shitty will buy this?

Of course both teams will want to win - us to regain top spot and City to stretch their lead over us to 5 points. But I think when all is said and done, they will be happy with a draw which would keep them still 2 points ahead of us.

Make no mistake, our players will be up for this. Our manager and staff will be up for this. Our supporters will be up for this. Old Trafford needs to be an absolute cauldron on Sunday. Get the scarves and flags up and flying, shout, scream and roar. We need to put these cnuts in their place. They've had an easy start to the season, the only result I was impressed with was the Spurs game, but they haven't really been tested. They need to be tested this Sunday.

Their fans speak like they're our equals now, they aren't! Look at our history, the traditions and prestige we have. They'll never be our equals, they simply aren't big enough. Sure they'll probably go on to win more silverware with the money they've got and the players they buy, but they won't achieve the success we have. They haven't worked for it or built anything up, they've just been fortunate to win the 'football lottery'.

I for one can't wait until Sunday. Come on United

they got too much talent in their squad just to play for a point.

Its at OT. we're favorites imo. Our home record is simply brilliant. It'l be a very cagey affair though i think. too much at stake in these games. people hoping to see a return to our fluid attacking football might have to wait.

I don't know about that. Mancini will set out for a point and will no doubt pack the midfield and we'll have to accommodate for that but I think it might end up being quite a lively game.

We'll go 442 and go for the jugular from the off. No different to the Chelsea or Arsenal games.

Lively yes, these games are always tasty. But, i dont think it'l be a footballing spectacle from the POV of the quality of the football on display. they'l probably play all 3 of de jong barry and toure which would mean a stifled game i think.

doesnt matter though. i'd take a 1-0 from an OG for all i care. derbies are just about results for me, bragging rights and to put them in their place.

Yeah I was thinking that's how they'd set out, probably with Silva in behind Aguero, giving them both freedom to roam. I don't really know what the score will be because I can see them scoring on us, I'd like 3-1 but it'll probably be a lot less comfortable than that.

Yep. We've been too open recently to be able to keep them out for 90mins i think. Hoping to nick in by a goal or 2 myself.

it'l be a brilliant watch though. the quality of attacks on both sides is simply brilliant.

Gonna be very exciting.

Tough game, City have bought some utterly class players... They are much stronger than us in Centre Midfield but we can beat them elsewhere...

I have a bad feeling about this, but our brilliant OT form gives me hope.

I dunno. Arsenal were in woeful form when they came and Chelsea were far from their best also.

City are bang in form.

I think this game could go either way. It could be tight or pretty open. I'm just glad we're at OT. Hopefully the away win in the CL did us some good. We should start Welbeck for this one though. If we're going to unlock city, it's going to come through some good interplay and really utilizing the wings well. We've got to be less predictable in our attacks.

I hope Smalling starts. He'd do a job on Nasri

If City play the way they've been playing and we play the way we've been playing, a draw would be a good result for us.

Fortunately I expect them to be defensive allowing us to press.

I dont think City have been tested at all yet this season. The best team they've played so far is Spurs and they played them when they were in a bit of a crisis (modric saga). On the other hand we've played all the top sides already.

Actually, i lie. City have had a couple of tests. Against us in the Charity Shield, and away to Bayern in the Champions League. Guess what, they lost both!

It's interesting actually that I didn't even realise how comparatively easy their start has been. Some great results but we can't really draw any conclusions on their title credentials until they've faced the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and even Arsenal.

........De Gea
Jones Rio Vida Evra
Fletcher Anderson
Park Rooney Nani
.......Welbeck

If Aguero plays on the left then Park on the left, but if he plays up top on his own then I'd switch him over to the right on Silva instead, and Nani can have his preferred right wing.

Smalling was MOTM last season for me. Nasri can easily be nullified as can Aguero. It's Silva that's the problem. He can come on so much in a season its terrifying. Aguero will come off the bech I reckon.

No date. No time. Spoony's matchday thread - as unorthodox as its creator...

Napoli are a good team. But they drew that, didn't they?

Toughie think we will nick it by the odd goal

I'd prefer Anderson over Fletcher on current form frankly.

I'd also not risk Vidic, Evans has played very well this season. Prefer him with Rio.

I'm interested to see City in this game. They've had a reasonably comfortable start in the league so far (their best performance coming in the hardest fixture so far at Spurs). Yet they've struggled against better sides in the CL, and were largely outplayed in the Shield despite going in ahead.

They'll play tight, and hope to nick it. No doubt about it. With Silva and Aguero on the pitch they will be dangerous regardless.

I don't think we can afford to play 442 in this one. Or to put it another way, it will take massive balls from Ferguson to do so.

Without knowing exactly who is available:

De Gea

Smalling
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra

Jones
Fletcher
Anderson

Nani
Rooney
Young

is my prediction

I think City will try and "bully" us off the ball and get Siva/Nasri involved as much as possible with support for their striker(s) and their midfield looking to help in getting forward - I don't see Mancini parking the bus, despite the temptation for him to do so, as I think he'll realise he'll get pasted by the press and City supporters if they go down without having a go.

If we can boss the ball and Nani and Young have good games, then I fancy us to get two more goals than them.

Carrick has to start for me. The only midfielder we have that is positionally aware enough to protect the back 4.

Micah Richards stokes it up.Like it really needed it.

Manchester City star Micah Richards today whipped up a storm ahead of Sunday’s derby with Manchester United by claiming the Red Devils are frightened of their Blue rivals.

The Old Trafford clash between the two Manchester clubs is the most eagerly awaited fixture so far this season with City on top of the Premier League, two points ahead of second placed United.

City are genuine title challengers and after last season’s FA Cup success will go to the home of the reigning champions without having to look at a famous banner designed by United fans that had taunted them for not winning a trophy in 35 years.

There is a clear sense amongst Roberto Mancini’s side that come May the ‘noisy neighbours’, as labelled by Sir Alex Ferguson, will have plenty to shout about.

“United now know, much as they won't say it, that we are a genuine threat to them,” said 23-year-old defender Richards.

“To get that banner down is quality — we have got the last laugh. We are not going out and saying we will win this game or that game, but they call us the noisy neighbours. I think they're a bit frightened.”

Richards adds that unlike previous years, City believe they have what it takes to win at Old Trafford.

“It used to be the case that we went to United and got battered every time but in the last year or two we have gone to United and sometimes looked the better team, on their own patch, so it shows how far we have come in a short space of time,” said Richards.

“We have improved a lot and want the ball down to play — in those days it was about getting 11 men behind the ball and defending, and if we got a chance we had to take it. That's what we did.

“If you speak to Mancini he wants to go there and win. People talked about us last season being boring and negative, but if you watch us now we are completely the opposite.”
