Manchester United vs. Benfica

Don't quite get why Gibson is on the bench instead of Morrison. Giggs and Park are already there and it's quite likely that Giggs will be the first to come on if we need to sub either Carrick or Fletcher. Park is probably next in line. Gibson is just coming back from an injury (played one reserve game), so apart from being a bit shite he's also not in form (looked a bit heavy in the reserve game I think). Rather give Ravel the experience on sitting on the bench for a European night really. Could even give him a run out if we're a few goals up towards the end of the game.

I can't really see a situation where we'd throw Gibson on - apart from three central midfield players getting injured. If we're behind with 10 minutes to go Morrison could actually bring something different to the midfield with his attacking play. I don't really understand it.

Very disappointed with the Gibson over Morrison decision. Yes its probably impatience on my part, and yes it is probably the safe choice, but with Park and Giggs already as cover theres probably a 1% chance of Gibson making it onto the pitch. I cant really see any reason why we'd need to bring him on tonight (given his lack of sharpness, lack of ability and seemingly having no long term future at the club), but there could have been an opportunity to bring Morrison on if the game was more comfortable than we expected.

Edit: Damm you Wowi. Exact same post

Thank you some sense at last, although I don't think the some morons here will understand it.

Oh, Danish TV found the team sheets now. Wonderful work. The excitement was killing me.

I'm not anti-gibson(check my previous posts) but if it's clear that he doesn't have any future here then why even keep him on the bench.

He has no future here, but it's the present, and he's a better option than Morrison due to his experience and past showings in the Champions League. Benfica are no mugs anyway. What makes you guys think Morrison could do a job against them?

Btw I'm sure now Gibson will go on and score the winner today.

And even though Gibson 'has no future' with us, he still does need game time, just like other players do, especially with him only recently coming back from an injury. And if he performs well in the games that he does play it might mean that we do get more for him from interested clubs if we sell him (unlikely as I can't see him going for that much with not long left on his contract but you never know).

Because we might need him?

That's the point of substitutes. You put them on the bench in case you need them. Morrison's a great talent but a must-win CL game is not the type of fixture you give him a slot on the bench, just for the experience.

Looking forward to seeing the bench in action tonight. Maybe Gibson can come on after it.

If I remember correctly, Gibbo played some excellent passes during his last match.

Berbatov alone up top, is it me or does that never work out? Good to see Valencia and Nani back down the flanks.

Gibbbbbbo :D
great to see him back.
Hope he gets some minutes.

and Berba starting too.
This game is going to be fun

Well tbf he also looked really rusty in his last reserves match. However all said and done, Fergie rarely ever gets something wrong, so let's hope Gibbo scores a cracking goal and you all laugh at me and my posts after the match.

Even if he didn't, he's clearly more equipped to handle a game of this magnitude than a kid who hasn't even played a full league game. That is, if he is needed to begin with. We're short on CM's at the moment, makes perfect sense to have an international as a back-up on the bench.

I hope we don't need to use Smalling or Rafael except maybe to give them minutes at the end once we are comfortably ahead.

I like this lineup and one I've kind of been wanting to see except maybe Rooney in Berba's spot but, Berba works too. It should be quite dynamic hopefully with Young being able to support on either wing in addition to playing behind Berba.

I don't think Gibson has a future here but, am glad he is on the bench. He did admirably when called upon last season and with our on and off injury issues in CM, it's nice to have the option.

Some guy chatting on the phone to someone called ben on my stream

I always like the live feeds without the commentary, gives you a much better feel.
