With that in mind (plus that Giggs is needed on Wednesday do to Carrick being out) it still leaves us with:

De Gea
Jones Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Carrick Fletcher
Nani --- Rooney --- Young
Hernandez

1-3. Hernandez to grab a brace.

Bench: Lindegaard, Smalling, Evans, Giggs, Park, Valencia, Chicharito

Sean's prediction: 1-2 (Bent - Rooney, Nani)

I'd love for Morrison to be involved as I thought he was one of the few that came out of the recent defeat with any credit. However, I'm not even sure he'll make the bloody bench :(

Sean, do you actually believe Morrision will start? Or is that more optimism than anything?

I would hope it's the latter.

I'd be surprised if he's on the bench. Let alone a starting spot.

The second one.

Giggs shouldn't start against Aston Villa......we need him against Basel with no Carrick, Anderson and Cleverley.

Park and Valencia have played 120 minutes against Crystal Palace and have played poor, i also reckon Park will play against Basel.

We don't have many fit strikers at the moment and 4-4-2 against Aston Villa away from home is a risky formation therefore Chicharito on the bench.

IMO Morrison has played fantastic against Crystal Palace and i would love to see who good he is already in a team with players like Rooney, Nani and Young, Morrison can give us some "magic" and we need that in our team right now.
Some players need the big stage and i think Morrison is a player who needs the big stage.........i trust Fergie in his team against Aston Villa but i would also trust Morrison.

Not sure if Young should start; he has been poor recently but then again he might get a boost by playing against his old side.

I don't see how we have much choice.

Both Valencia and Park played the full 120 on Wednesday.

I agree with evra to a degree. But I also think that Nani and Rooney's form has dipped at the same time, along with the absence of Cleverley, which has really dampened our creativity and attacking play. They were better against Newcastle, and will be fresh for this game so hopefully they produce. We really shouldn't be starting anyone else on the flanks anyway.

Maybe his early form this season and the fact that he surpassed all of my expectation of him are clouding my judgement a bit, but I can't really think of anyone bar maybe Vidic\De Gea who has been more consistent. I just feel confident with him on our wing more than any of our other wingers at the moment.

As much as I love morrison, I don't think he's ready and I think people are overrating his due credit prior to the CC exit...

Villa away, I'd love us to attack but for now let's have Rooney lead the line with either Park/Nani/Valencia/Young providing support with Carrick/Fletcher playing in the centre...

We need a result and the 2-2 last season was a pain to watch ( even though I jumped for joy with Vidic's equalizer ) but we still lost 2 points.

Hope we get all three this time.

Although I'm sure everyone knows, these are the players definitely out for this:

Fábio, Rafael, Anderson, Cleverley, Berbatov, Owen

Welbeck is also a big doubt. While Smalling, Evans, and Gibson came back from injuries and played 120 minutes on Wednesday and Valencia and Park also played that long.

Win

My muppet side would love to see Morrison behind Rooney, protected by Carrick and Fletcher. Can't see SAF risking it at a time when we need solidity though.

Villa look woefully unambitious at the moment and really are there for the taking. They do seem to pull performances out of the bag against us, but I'm not sure McLeish will have them confident enough to actually take us on.

De Gea
Jones
Rio
Vida
Evra
Carrick
Fletcher
Nani
Young
Morrison
Rooney

(Although I expect Rooney to drop deeper and Hernandez to lead the line)

muppet indeed...

watching Morrison the other night two things were apparent

The kid has vision, creativity and obvious potential

On the other hand he isn't physically ready for the Premier League especially in what is a crucial game after the draw last week

his time will come next season....

pogba on the other hand is ready for the bench i think - he has the physical presence to cope

Absolutely, but we wouldn't need him to be physical if he was playing in the hole ahead of Carrick and Fletcher and behind Rooney. He'd be a total unknown quantity and is undoubtedly more developed than, say, Kiko or Bebe were when they were introduced into the 1st team. The fact that Villa would have genuinely no idea what to expect if he popped up on the team sheet excites me a bit...

As for Pogba. Yeah, he looks older than his years. But players like Carrick and Fletcher can do his role better than him currently.

I just feel we need to do 'something' unexpected to shake up the current doldrums and Morrison 'could' be a risk worth taking. He would still be surrounded by an incredible array of talent to guide him through it and, to be fair, Villa's midfield is pretty heavily reliant on inexperienced potential as well.

Really looking forward to this game tomorrow, cant stop thinking of that Scholes volley a few seasons back, what a cracker!

If we don't win it might be the final straw for me. I'll have to give serious consideration to becoming a Barca fan, I reckon I'd suit one of their replica shirts.

dont mock me! our wicked luck, injuries, dip of form, ever present incompetent refs all that worries me.

:(

throw in the towel and forfeit the match while you are at it, don't bother playing then.

We really need to win this one to keep some pressure on. Villa could be difficult to break down but if it's still level going into the last few I fancy us to lay siege on their goal and get something.

Replace Smalling with Jones and giggs with Hernandez and thats what I think we'll start with. 2-0 to us with Nani and Vidic getting the goals.
