FC Basel Vs Manchester United

We'll thrash them
Its Basel ffs
0-4
Welbz to get a hattrick

This is most likely a 1-0, or 2-0 game we are very less likely to thrash them at their home. They are coming in to this game with 7 consecutive league wins and with a 6points domestic lead.

Google'd her to see if she's foxy, wish I didn't.

She might have been 30 years ago!

Notice how she abuses the crowd by giving the finger...

Anyone know the travelling squad for this? I'm guessing:

Amos, de Gea, Lindegaard
Evans, Evra, Ferdinand, Fryers, Jones, Smalling, Vidic
Cole, Gibson, Giggs, Fletcher, Nani, Park, Valencia, Young, Carrick
Macheda, Rooney, Welbeck

I heard we are taking a 22-man squad that includes Cole and Fryers, and that's 21 players who I'd expect to make it. The other is likely Morrison.

de Gea
Smalling Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Jones
Nani Giggs Park
Rooney

Lindegaard; Evans; Gibson, Valencia, Young; Macheda, Welbeck

I think that'd be my preferred line-up, perhaps with Young ahead of Park though. I'm pretty sure Park will start either this game or the Wolves game, with Carrick coming back in against Wolves to give either Smalling, Jones, or Giggs a bit of a rest after this one. If we're somehow comfortable in this game towards the end, bringing on Gibson to cut down someone's playing time in midfield wouldn't be a bad move in my opinion. I'm sure all the muppets would prefer to see Morrison get on again, but not for this one IMO. Him or Pogba have a shout at the bench for Wolves though maybe.

Pre game nerves starting to creep in. Am quietly confident we will win but an early lead like the one Chelsea got would be nice.

Nah, I think you have outlined a very good team and would prefer Park to Young for this game. We are away from home and will need to do alot of running as well as provide protection to the back line, which is why I like that you have put Fletcher and Jones ahead of the defence. We alos need experience in this game, experience that Park has in spades and never failed to deliver whereas its a new sensation for Young. This game is too important now to piss around and provide 'learning opportunities'.

Given the magnitude this game has now taken on, I'd like that SAF adopt 'Mourinho' type tactics and play the game in 'phases'. Lets be solidly boring playing on the counter attack for the first hour and then see where we are. The team you have picked is perfect for that, and if we are 0-0 or leading with 20 mins to play, then fresh and energetic Young, Valencia and Welbeck will be a perfect tonic to a tiring Basel side to help see us through.

Yeah, I think for the majority of the first half, Park would be behind Giggs and Nani as well. I can see Basel really going for our throats for the first 25-30 minutes and we'll need to do a lot of running as you say. Fletcher, Jones, and Park will provide that in front of the back four, winning the ball and feeding it to Giggs, who will using Evra, Nani and Rooney as outlets. I think that's our likely way of scoring an early goal here if things go as I expect (other than a set piece). We obviously can outplay them, but we all know what these kinds of games are like. When the underdogs are putting 110% in it's very hard to just play you attack, we attack, when the crowd will be so behind them.

United always do it the hard way. nerve jangling moments right until the final whistle blow. :nervous:

It will end 1-1 or 2-1 to Basel.

dont think it will be as easy as some predict. They scored 3 at OT ffs. United need to get an early goal to calm the nerves

Sean's prediciton: 0-0

Am I the only one who think this looks a bit unbalance? Don't you think Smalling and Ferdinand are standing a bit too close in comparison to Vidic and Evra...

Fully expect to see a typical European away-performance by United, as Basel will try to grab a goal early on.

And btw......
This trip is slightly different to a regular Champions League one in that we're staying over in Basel after the game because the airport closes before we'd be able to get there after the game (it's the same in cities like Munich). Consequently we'll be coming back to the hotel and flying home tomorrow afternoon.

Expecting Smalling to be rested in this one after 120 minutes in the CC and a full game vs Villa after his injury-break. Jones at right back, with Fletcher and Giggs in the middle.

nah he doesnt need a rest he's only a nipper.

dont expect fletcher to play at all from the start and I would start with young in behind rooney with nani and toni V on the wings and carrick and jones central. feck this cagey shit get out there and lamp them in the first half hour.
When United play with pace teams cant handle it!

I hope we don't score as early as Chelsea did.

This team has the tendency to be very complacent.
