FC Basel Vs Manchester United

There isn't a single central midfielder in the starting XI, nice! 5-0-5, here we come.

Seriously, where's Fletcher?

1. Big match
2. Away from home
3. Midweek
4. Requires some defending
5. Endurance
6. No one is in great form anyway

Park has great endurance yeah but every other point is useless, every united player should be ready and able to play a midweek match away from home that requires defending.

nah he doesnt need a rest he's only a nipper.

dont expect fletcher to play at all from the start and I would start with young in behind rooney with nani and toni V on the wings and carrick and jones central. feck this cagey shit get out there and lamp them in the first half hour.
When United play with pace teams cant handle it!

True, but that's still a hell of a lot of football for someone who've just recovered from injury. I hope that we'll play Smalling at the right back, as I thought he was one of our best players vs Villa, but I'm equally satisfied to play Jones at the right back. I was convinced that we would play Giggs in this game, seing as he was rested at the weekend.

Fergie did mention that he was satisfied with how Nani was playing as our main striker after the Villa-game aswell, so playing with Valencia, Young and Nani is certainly a possiblity. I just figure that we need some of the vast experience we have available in our team in a situation like this, which is why I think we'll see both Fletcher and Giggs at our central midfield tonight. I hope to see Welbeck aswell, but I could understand him being treated carefully as we might have to rely on him for a few weeks until Berbatov and Hernandez are fully fit.

Giggs has been playing as a central midfielder for the last two years but yet he isn't a central midfielder according to some

Good team btw, worrying for fletcher that he doesn't make the team even today, seems like Fergie isn't happy with him.

The white shirt is back.

Giggs played most of last season as a left winger/left midfielder. The first game where he was a central midfielder in a 4-4-2 was against Bolton in March.

And he was on the left plenty of times in 2009/10 as well. He was mostly a central AM in 2008/09, true.

I am not happy with him either. He's not been the same since the virus.

Nice team - enough energy to keep things solid defensively but, a lot of attacking options.

feck, never thought I would be anticipating a game against Basel as a big European night when we had Benfica and Otelul Galati as other teams in the group. It feels weird.

Where's Fletch? Shoulda played instead of Ashley 'cut in and out over and over again failing to beat your man, before putting in an aimless ball' Young.

I'm guessing it will be Park and Young on the wings, with Nani playing as the most advanced striker. Hopefull Jones is able to build on his midfield performance from the weekend, and thrilled to see Smalling at right back again!

which is a joke at a club like united

he is ancient ( in football terms)

That is true.

Still, it's nice to have a utility player with the quality of Giggs, he can do an adequate job at CM and at LM, too, at his age it's no mean feat.

Very strange that Fletcher doesn't start...

I thought it was a bit strange too, especially as it seemed he was rested from the last match purely so he could appear in this one.

The last game he played for us was on the 22nd against Benfica, maybe Fergie didn't want to risk starting him after not playing for so long?

Good lineup today, should be enough to see us through though it will be a tough game.

I thought against Benfica that he had his best performance since his virus. Doesn't make much sense when we're already lacking options in central midfield to leave out Fletcher unless he's not physically 100% to start. Oh well.

#mufc De Gea, Smalling, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Park, Jones, Giggs, Nani, Rooney, Young

So I imagine we'll line up:

------------------------ De Gea --------------------------

Smalling ---------- Rio ---------- Vidic -------------- Evra

----------------------- Jones ----------------------------

--------------- Park ----------- Giggs --------------------

Nani ------------------ Rooney --------------------- Young

I like it!

Strong line up let's fecking have them lads!!! come on United.

Nah
Expect Giggs-Jones middle and 3 wingers interchanging positions just behind the striker

White kit? Well I for one think the Europa League is a wonderful competition.
