Paul Pogba

MotM for me tonight. Finally showing how good of a player he really is, been a bit underwhelming this season in the reserves.

Pogba was very good tonight. As was Petrucci, he's really impressed me of late. I think we need to start integrating these lads, and Ravel, into the first team squad. Give them chances, see what they're made of.

What makes you think Pogba won't be ready for three more seasons? He does not need that much time especially since we are playing with one striker more often than not nowadays. So the burden on him is not too much because he has two more people in midfield to help him out.

Unless you're counting Rooney as a midfielder, we normally play with two strikers nowadays. Anyhow, the idea is not having Pogba ready to play, but ready to really make a difference. At the moment, he's a sub against Crystal Palace, which is not a hint of him being ready for an important role any time soon.

Rooney is an attacking mid nowadays. So yes I count him as a midfielder. If Pogba plays next to Carrick or Anderson he will be fine. There might be mistakes but who doesn't make them? You are only going to learn if you play and make mistakes.

I think if we are not going to use him in Europa league, then we might as well ship him out on loan to a Championship club for six months and see how he does. There is no point just hanging on to him and letting him play in the reserves. If he does well there, then ease him next season through pre-season and a few games at the start. Who knows, he could be a hit like Cleverley is for us now. Who knew Tom was going to make such a huge difference. You never know when these kids might surprise you.

If that was on target, can you even save that as a keeper? I will love to measure the speed of that shot. Anybody has a microsecond timer?

I didn't think he was all that great. Liverpool completely collapsed after going a man down but still managed to run straight through the centre of midfield with ease a few times. Pogba's still got a lot to learn about what to do when he doesn't have the ball.

From the little I've seen of him he seems to have good technique but appears a bit laxidasical. Hes got that nonchalant Berba vibe about him.

If Pogba is going to play next to Anderson, he'll be fine on Ando's good days. Not so sure about his bad days. It's not that simple, and part of the problem with the league becoming so difficult nowadays is that we can afford less and less of the mistakes of youth if we're going to challenge. That's why we've have Cleverley well cooked elsewhere before we gave him a look with the first team.

On paper, you're right. But it all depends on how Fergie views his progress. Is he ready to play regularly in the championship? If the feeling is he's not ready and such a loan is likely to end up with him seeing little action, there's
no point. At some stage, playing regularly at higher levels is something every youngster has to do in order to progress. At some stage.

Fergie finally got asked about the Pogba contact situation today.

howardnurse - SAF says #MUFC want Paul Pogba to sign a new deal but the player's agent is holding out for more money, which has put the contract in doubt.

SAF must see something in the lad then. Hope he signs but if he goes abroad for more money I won't lose sleep. He has been good in the reserves but I wouldn't say brilliant. Can't see why another team would give him the money he craves as there is nothing to justify it in my eyes.

If I was a United rival, perhaps already with a history of buying United targets, I might want to continue to disrupt any attempts to improve the midfield situation. Buying a player like Nasri when you don't much need him, or offering an inflated contract to Pogba could be as useful to blunting our attack as it is improving anyone else's.

Of course, with FFP coming into play, that sort of thing should become difficult to fit into the budget, but we're yet to see if that's going to be taken seriously.

Doesn't sound promising. You'd think that once January rolls around he'll have something tied up with another side unless he's really set on staying with us.

If he goes, so be it. We've lost better players than him and not missed a beat.

If the rumours are to be believed, he probably has a sychophantic agent, telling him how great he is and how he's worth as much as the other players etc. He'll end up doing an Anelka.

Hehe actually it was an Embargoed news which Howard Nurse revealed by mistake.

Anyways goes to show that all the rumors weren't wrong, seriously he can get out of the club if his attitude is like this.

I watched an interview with Pogba yesterday on MUTV and to me it appears from his demeanour that he loves United and his mates at the club, and IMHO I think this is all agent talk.

How do you mean?

Wasn't it asked in a press conference?

Might as well give him time right? If the rumours are true and he still comits to the club, what then?

Problem is, when does the agent stop and the player starts? I mean, when does the player tell the agent: OK, you've done your best, I want to stay here period even if it means less money. When it's such a young lad, you always wonder if a particular agent might have too much influence on him, enough to make him leave a club he feels comfortable at.

The press conference is usually split into two sections, one is pretty much free to report on the go. Then they have a section that is embargoed, which usually the more interested questions are answered in. Think it's to stop other papers getting the jump on others over quotes from the press conference. Gives everyone a chance to report it. It's only embargoed for a few hours.

Ah, okay. Cheers.

Obviously it would be the best solution. I went over the top with the previous post though. However according to the last mirror article Mino Raiola is his agent, which isn't good news at all as he's bit of a twat(Raiola that is)

Who was it that didn't have an agent? Was it Scholes? I seem to recall a funny story from Fergie where Scholes(?) would just walk into a contract negotiation and say "where do I sign?" or some such. Or am I making this up?

When I hear of this agent power, I wistfully regress to that story.

fecking agent..... then again Pogba is also big enough to make his own mind up.

The we beat Gibson with a sock full of used batteries. Obviously.

I'm hoping it's just the agent pushing for this regardless of Pogba's actual intentions, playing on his potential and recent comments for Fergie in regards to his talent and ability. Hopefully Fergie's 'doubt' is just a public ploy against the agent and his apparent demands.

I doubt it, Rooney at his age and experience seemed to be a complete puppet behind his agent until the shit truly hit the fan. He could be completely aware and agree with his agent for all I know, but it must be easier to have your head turned at that sort of age.

I thought he was great, if I'm being hyper-critical then as you say his positioning still needs to develop but everything else is spot on for that level at least. Comfortable on either foot, wonderful technique, strong as a bull. He's really come on with his fitness and I think his positioning is improving too. He'll be a great player for us if he wants to be.

Howard is a cock though because this is just negotiations....Until a deal is signed, there is always the possibility - but to add 'therefore his futures in doubt' is someone acting like a cock. I'm completely against Agents. They're just leeches.

The idea that Rooney was some sort of pioneer for agents playing public games of brinkmanship is laughable, quite frankly.

Neville. He said that contract negotiations usually took him 5 minutes.

It's also quite likely that an agent will push for a stronger contract than the one offered, I was a bit surprised by the 'doubt' comment unless it's used to put pressure on them. It would have been ideal had Pogba's agent accepted the first contract we offered, but it's no real surprise that they haven't. Still sounds like very much in negotations to me.

Fergie talking about using him to address the current shortage...

"Pogba is a possibility. He's a big strong lad, a good athlete. He's improving and developing well.

"Since he's come to the club we've seen the progress he's made and in terms of that youth team we had last year, six of them have all had a bit of experience of the first team this year.

"Of course, young [Ryan] Tunnicliffe is another member - he's over at Peterborough - he's playing Championship football at 18 years of age, so he's doing very well.

"It's a good group that - it's turned out very well. Pogba physically is better than the rest of that group, maybe apart from Zeki Fryers who is a very good athlete."
