Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

It utterly was cringeworthy (see Lee Dixon) my old mum used 'coloureds' as a polite term for black people back in the 60s, by about 1972 she'd worked out it wasn't really the thing to say based on talking black people.

I met a middle aged woman who thought it was alright to describe the colour black as 'nigger black', as in 'what colour is that jumper you're knitting?'...'it's nigger black'. I swear someone people live on a different planet.

It wasn't that long ago that the MOTD commentators talked about the 'big darkie' on the wing.

Or maybe that was just Big Ron...my memory is hazy.

Those folks are struggling to grasp the changing attitudes in our society. Hansen stopped short of saying... it's better than it was 20 years, so get over it.

But hasn't he admitted it? Hence all this guff about it being culturally acceptable to be massive racist in Uraguay. If not, I doubt they'd have given an 8 match ban without evidence from a third party of some sort, since it's open to appeal and everything...

Brilliant post and sums it all up tbh

Didn't Hansen play with Barnes? He should know from JB how bad things were back in the 1980's. Barnes got all kinds of nasty shit when he played for England.

Naah. He was misquoted. He never really meant it. He has many 'coloureds' as his players and friends. We should have fully supported him :D

 The bloke talking over that is great.

I'm going to write a whole catchphrase based show around him. He'll watch a number of inappropriate faux pas and cultural gaffs, whilst standing cross armed and bemused from a distance, pausing a while at the end of each one before delivering his withering, cutting critique and trusty catchphrase "dickhead"

It's going to be massive.

Oh my feck, what is happening? It's like some kind of giant ever growing magnetic shit storm. Even Hansen is getting in on it. In a case of racism on the pitch, we've seen more public examples of it off the pitch, by the people supposedly defending it.

Hopefully this will prompt the BBC into noticing how outdated and stale MOTD has become.

I can't wait for Kenny's next press conference viciously defending Hansen with a picture of him on his t-shirt.

I'm gutted this isn't available on iPlayer. At least I can watch Paul Nicholas doing 'Grandma's Party' on TOTP though.

... I still can't get over the T-Shirts.

I really want to meet the man who thought that was a good idea...

Hansen what a surprise!

Nothing about whether what Suarez said was right/wrong only we that he wants to hear the reasoning for it. Biased feck.

My lad has been watching a film called Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I thought it was a simple kids' fantasy film, not an allegorical tale.

I suspect it will make Liverpool's owners notice how outdated and stale the management is (they didn't want Ken Knee in the first pace IMO).

They can't get rid of him now. He's rallied the fans into a hysteria and at the moment he can't do anything wrong as all the focus is on Suarez, Evra and the FA and not on the fact that Liverpool are 6th and would be lucky to finish in an European spot next season.

It will take time though for the Liverpool fans when they clock on they're far away from reaching a Champion's League spot.

Hopefully Kenny will spunk another 75 million quid on dross before that happens!

When will it happen?

The written judgment explaining the findings of the Independent Commission, which issued the severe punishment against the South American for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, is not likely to be published until mid-January.

Yeah but when they do...

Suarez gets 8 matches, any guess on Terry's ban being over/under 8 matches?

My guess is it will go to trial and he will be found not guilty due to technicalities. The FA will have to follow suit and the persecutiometer at Klanfield will explode.

How does it take until mid-January to publish the report? This is ridiculous. They won't get around to Terry's ban until after next summer.

BTW, do bans in Europe result in lost wages as well?

In the States, sports suspensions do result on lost wages.

Well, it should be up to the club as to whether they fine him or not, and with all the ludicrous levels of support he's received, I can't see them fining him.

That said, they've surprised me a whole lot in the last 24 hours.

It is in the CBAs and by-laws of American sports leagues. Suspensions equals lost salary for those games suspended. The money is actually donated by the club or league to charity from what I've read/heard. Additional fines can be added depending on the severity of the issue and/or previous punishments.
