Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

The thing what got me was a post yesterday on RAWK. Someone had posted a link to the bluemoon forums, and one of them said (paraphrasing)

"You know reading that I began to wonder if I was just being biased towards the reds, but then I snapped out of it, and realised that it just means the whole worlds against us"

Or something like that.

That's what I can't comprehend. In this thread we've had links to Bluemoon, the Oatcake (A Stoke Board), A sunderland forum, a Spurs forum. The majority are saying the same thing. This isn't something that's United v Liverpool, it's Liverpool v the rest of the world.

And how many times has this got to happen before you do question what you're doing. Man City and Stoke hate us, but they can see what's happened here. Currently RAWK are turning against Scouse season ticket holder Brian Reade because he put up an article they didn't like. Where does it end? Sid Lowe, Raphael Honigstein and others respected journalists are all saying the same thing.

The ONLY people on Suarez's side are those with a direct interest in getting him unbanned (well mostly). The Liverpool squad, Ex Liverpool players and Uruguayan internationals.

How many people need to speak out before you even CONSIDER apologizing?

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but,

Isn't it a libellous statement from LFC regarding Evra's alleged previous false reporting of racist incidents?

The facts are, one incident was reported by a fan and the other by Utd staff. I'm sure such false accusations (which lets be honest, have really fed the fire for much of the rubish thats being sprouted at the moment) could lead to a sucessful court case if Evra decided to sue LFC for defamation.

I still can't get my head around Liverpool actually releasing a factually untrue & slanderous statement about Evra. It's unbelievable. The club's handling of this matter has been a disgrace.
I think the FA should expose this. Not for our or Evra's benefit, but for the benefit of their supporters who have been misguided by their own club. It's time to put this whole matter to bed.

They cannot be allowed to lie about an incident that had nothing to do with them, just because they wanted to use it to help their player get away with something

Liverpool should at least be coming out and saying their sickened by the reactions of a small section of their fans. They should be making it clear they deplore racism and that anyone found to having committed such acts will be banned from future games.

There's been so many avenues for them to do the right thing and they've refused to take the option every time.

Amazing.

"Luis Suarez is not a racist, but we all are! He'll fecking love this!"

Yes it is. But they haven't done that specifically, because they haven't mention "racism". They've simply put "unfound allegations" which they can linguistically claim relates to his "exaggerated" testimony about fighting with the Chelsea groundsman. This has nothing to do with racism, and isn't even an allegation, it's a testimony, but technically that's their excuse.

Of course anyone with any sense can see it's a leading statement, intended to propagate a lie or insinuate it. It's - again - a hugely irresponsible move, and judging by the the shit Stan Collymore is still re-tweeting, having a lasting effect.

Have they actually said that or is it your opinion that they could use it?

The relevant part of the statement is:-

LFC considers racism in any form to be unacceptable - without compromise. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.

It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.

The positioning of the 'no more credible' and 'prior unfounded accusations' is right in the middle of sentences about racism. It also says accusations, plural, meaning more than one. I do not have a legal background but I think it reasonable to say that the implication is that Evra has previously made accusations of racism.

That's what fans have told me and what I'd assume is their legal defence (no matter how spastic it is, they simply must have waved it past a lawyer first) Though obviously the implication is blatant, and hugely irresponsible. I don't think it's a great stretch to tie it into some of the abuse he's getting on Twitter. They've called him a liar outright.

There has been a sudden rise in Liverpool fans thinking racism is funny (since their previous position of that it didn't happen is untenable), even silly little jokes with smiley faces after them being a bit 'cheeky'.

'Hey look, our favourite footballer was only taking the piss, it's no big deal! Look we can do it too.'

I'm going to punch somebody today.

the club and lot of its fans have backed themselves into a corner. If they make it worse, its to their own detriment. ignorant idiots.

yeah, it´s been very badly handled, and is very damaging for LFC.

If Liverpool had just said that Suarez didn't realize that what he said was unacceptable, he was sorry and wouldn't do it again, blah blah blah, then it would not have blown up like it has. Suarez would probably have got a lesser sentence, or part of it suspended. They could also have stressed that Suarez was not found guilty of racism, nor was he accused of racism.

The racial abuse that Evra has received from a small minority of Liverpool fans is amazing. Liverpool say they have a zero tolerance policy towards racism but they have made no comment about this. Dalglish has instead complained about the abuse Suarez has received. Liverpool have missed a golden opportunity to redeem their reputation. Sadly, they seem unaware that their inaction is seen as a green light to racial abuse.

This really shouldn't be about Patrice Evra's character, but he's my favorite personality on the squad now that Scholesy has retired. They're not very similar, but you have to respect Scholes, you knew if he was bothering to talk it would be something worth hearing. Evra is a bit of a jester, but he's up with Chicharito and Welbeck for constantly exuding pure joy. And he loves United and knows all about our history.

I find it quite unbelievable that he would make up something like this, I couldn't help but be quite sure he'd be proven right all along. Fergie wouldn't give the armband to just anyone.

What does that even mean? Who was singing that?

The whole thing has blown out of all proportion and I feel the main protagonists have been LFC themselves. Close ranks, play the victim and blame everyone else without the slightest once of remorse.

If it had been handled differently, Luis Suarez may not have even been reported to the FA and so wouldn’t have received a ban.

Just imagine if this had been LFC original statement :-

LFC were today concerned about comments made by Mr Evra in an interview with a French TV channel regarding alleged comments of a racial nature made to him by Luis Suarez during the game between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Liverpool FC has a strict policy regarding racism and we do not tolerate racism in any form, and as such we investigated straight away.

Mr Suarez was extremely concerned and upset regarding these allegations as he personally feels quite strongly on the racism issue as he himself comes from a mixed race lineage.

During the interview with Mr Suarez about what could possibly have been said to have prompted these accusations, Mr Suarez mentioned he had addressed Mr Evra in the same way he would address a mate or pal, in his native country. Unfortunately, the term used could also be taken to mean a reference to a person’s skin colour and as such it could be taken as a racist comment.

When this was pointed out to Mr Suarez, he was appalled, he had meant nothing of the kind and he is very upset that it could be taken as such.

LFC having fully looked into the matter totally accept and support Mr Sauarez’s position on the matter, which is that it is basically down to cultural differences and not an attempt to make racial comments. However, LFC also accept that racism needs to be tackled at all levels and generally, what is acceptable in one country might not be acceptable in another, and as such we will endeavour to improve our racial awareness and update our training.

Regarding Mr Evra.

Mr Suarez would like to apologise unreservedly to Mr Evra for any distress caused by his unfortunate use of the said terminology. Mr Suarez also promises to update his vocabulary with what is acceptable in English culture. Again Mr Suarez apologises to Mr Evra, and hope the matter can now be closed.

LFC feels that this is the best way to resolve the situation and that lessons can be learned from this.

Just think how easily is could have been resolved, and LFC as well as Luis Suarez would have come out of the whole episode looking tough on racism.

……Would Evra have reported Suarez to the FA if he had received such an apology ?

#IsupportLuisSuarez was just trending Worldwide.

If you went to the definitions of trending topics (on echofon at least) this is the description it was given:

Evra,United and Fergie have acted with dignity in all this. This would all be behind us if only Liverpool and their management have acted responsibly. Instead we have this being built up to idiotic proportions...and feeding the racists.

It was funny to see Liverpool behaving as they were...but this has become dangerous.

Had a massive argument with the two most myopic dippers in the pub last night about this debacle.

They actually said "what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch" and Evra is a "coward" for being offended by racism and rushing to the authorities. King Kenny done the right thing with the shirts, apparently. Self-pitying gimps.

All this 'backs against the wall' stuff from Liverpool will only backfire against them and make the season even harder for them.

All they had to do was apologise unreservedly and if so use the culture excuse but absolutely don't do what they are doing now. The issue would have slowly settled but it's bubbling at the moment to a point where it's just getting a bit stupid now from Liverpool fans.

There isn't even a bias any more. It's just plain ignorance and stupidity.

Joke of a club. It's embarrassing really that they are a PL team. You'd understand fans making mistakes regarding the accusation of Suarez but to have the club release an official statement whereas they do not seem to have a clue about their player is truly accused of ????
A club run by real fecking idiots

At least now the whole country can see what we've been saying for years.

They started pissing on their history when they bent over and took it up the arse gleefully form those two yanks, this episode only goes to further show how pitiful they are and not even as much as a shadow of their former selves.

Good, let's hope everyone turns against them and sends them further into the hole they've been in for over 20 years now.

I had no idea that there was so much underlying racism within British society, I am shocked and appalled by the comments I am reading on Twitter. Liverpool's stance is only encouraging it and exacerbating it too, I don't see how they can't see that and withdraw all comments made and apologise. This whole debacle has become depressingly sickening.

I don’t know how much this episode could effect their club in the future, as generally money talks, but I’m sure some Black players could have been influenced against joining LFC given the their stance and the totally out of control racist actions and comments coming from a number of their so called fans.

If this hard man stance doesn't budge from Liverpool I wouldn't be surprised to see a sponsor withdraw from the club.

Have soccer saturday yet to discuss the issue? Going to a be a good debate I think on Boxing day.
