Manchester United vs. Ajax

I know we didn't even qualify from a weak Champions League group, but the way I see things is: This isn't the best Ajax side. They're probably still not even at full strength and might just rest players like we will, because they also have a league campaign to worry about. We have a 2-0 lead, we're at Old Trafford and any player who would be considered for this game should be expected to have the quality to win it. Or at least not lose 0-2 or more, which I would personally be very confident in.

Resting Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Giggs, Scholes, Valencia, and Rooney is something I would almost definitely do. Giggs and Evra may get into the match day squad and play a part, because they didn't play the last game and in Giggs' case he was injured and might need a few minutes as a sub. I'd even not mind if de Gea and Rafael were rested..

Fabio, Jones, Smalling, Fryers, Pogba, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Park, and Berbatov are players I definitely want to see given a chance / some minutes in this game provided they're fit.

Here's whats left:

North Stand: 267
West Stand: 568
South Stand: 125
East Stand: 426
Quadrants: 2696

Tickets remaining: 4082

The maximum capacity is 75,957 which means that 71,875 tickets have been sold for the game as of this evening.

-----------De Gea
Jones--Evans--Smalling--Fabio
Young---Scholes--Pogba--Park
------------Giggs
----------Berbatov

Yes please.

I would rest scholes for this as I think Norwich is the sort of game where he'll be very important. Carrick would ideally get a rest. I dunno it's not the best we can put out but I think we could get away with clev and giggs in the middle, flanked by park and young/nani. Berba and Hernandez up top. We need to protect nani/young as much as we can with valencia out and young being seemingly quite prone to picking up a knock. More importantly we need to keep carrick fit.

Please please please win this game comfortably and get Bilbao instead of Lokomotiv Moscow. Athletic Bilbao and Ajax are great drafts.

Yeah a trip to Spain would be so much better but that is out of our hands. Hopefully Bilbao will take advantage of the away goal they scored.

4084 tickets in North Stand Tier 3 are unsold as those sections don't seem to be available to buy from, presumably they'll only open it if required.

Nearly 72,000 for a 6pm kick-off is great.

Forgot about that, so the actual sales figure is about 68k with 2 and a half days to go. We'll break the 70k mark. :D

Apparantly the EDL are showing up ... I hope they get run right out of Old Trafford.

feck channel 5, will they be playing bob marley at half time?

How many tickets have Ajax got allocated? I read 3,000 are coming from Amsterdam.

3,400 approximately. 3,225 in East Tier 2 (E331-3) and a couple of hundred VIP seats in South Stand.

The GMP are also expecting upto 1,000 to travel without tickets.

EDL plan action as Ajax visit Manchester United

The English Defence League are trying to organise action against Ajax supporters when the Dutch team visit Manchester on Thursday. It's in a quest for revenge after EDL members were humiliated by Ajax supporters in Holland who didn't look kindly on their wishes to demonstrate.

On their Facebook page, the EDL say "In October 2010 Tommy, Kevin, along with approximately 15 other EDL members attended a demonstration in Rotterdam and were met with hostility by Ajax supporters. The EDL's minibus was stoned and EDL were attacked.

Ajax are coming to Manchester United on the 23rd Ferbraury 2012, kick off 8pm, the EDL would like to extend the same courtesy that Ajax supporters showed to them in their country when they come to Manchester."

This is the same EDL who brand themselves as a peaceful organisation.

Manchester United and their fans will obviously want no part of this and the police have already been informed about what the EDL are planning so the likelihood of them being able to pull anything off is low.

Interestingly the Kevin and Tommy mentioned by the EDL are the same two men who held a roof top protest at FIFA last year as they hijacked the debate on whether the England team should be allowed to wear a poppy on their shirt or not.

The organisation, not known for their intellectual capacity, have probably picked the worst period possible to take their campaign to Old Trafford, with race relations heightened after recent events. If they do get anywhere near the ground then hopefully they'll find a similar 'welcome' from Manchester United fans as they did from those in Holland.

Berbatov, Giggs and Anderson are all set to miss this one. It would be nice to rest Scholes and Rooney for Norwich.

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Evans Fabio
Jones Cleverley
Young Welbeck Park
Chicharito

I've heard a rumour that the EDL are planning to attack Ajax fans in Manchester.

If they get near the stadium I hope both sets of fans kick the shit out of them, fecking hate the EDL

10:40 The players are out on the training pitch now, doing a bit of possession work. Here's the list of everybody who's currently being put through their paces: De Gea, Amos; Evans, Evra, Fabio, Ferdinand, Jones, Smalling; Anderson, Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs, Nani, Park, Pogba, Scholes, Young; Berbatov, Hernandez, Welbeck

No Rooney yet, but he might turn up once the journos have been sent packing.

Pogba in a more advanced position then with Rooney out, would be a nicer way for him to experience a European night.

Looks as though Pogba and Cleverley will get in. Berbatov and Anderson have trained well and are fit. I reckon Berbatov to start and Anderson to come on as a sub. Sir Alex mentioned that Smalling, Jones, Nani, Cleverley, Young, and Hernandez will all play tomorrow. I'd still like to see something like this:

GK: Amos / de Gea

RB: Fábio / Jones
CB: Smalling
CB: Jones / Evans
LB: Fryers / Fábio

CM: Cleverley
CM: Pogba

RM: Nani
AM: Berbatov / Park
LM: Young

ST: Hernández

Anderson to come on for one of the four most advanced players. Maybe Evra to come on to get a few minutes, but him rested until Norwich would be great as well. If we're going to win the game, it'd be a nice gesture to bring on Ryan Giggs for his 900th appearance, although that could be saved (but I hope it's a game we win).

I'd like to see a 4-5-1 with either Carrick or Jones partnering Pogba and Cleverley. Probably won't happen though, I'd imagine Berba will start with Chicharito up top and I'm not sure if Pogba is ready to play in a two man midfield yet.

What has happened to Rafael? Is he inured again?

From the presser it sounds like Cleverley and Pogba will definitely start and that makes me think we are going to play 1 striker. Just can't see starting with just the two of them centrally. Expect maybe

De Gea
Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra
Cleverley, Jones, Pogba
Nani, Berba, Park

Bench: Amos, Rio, Fabio, Scholes, Young, Welbeck, Chicha
