Phil Jones

That stage in your life when first team players at your favourite club are the same age or younger than you...
I noticed that a few days back when I had a look at the calendar.( I get gifted a united calendar every year)
Feb has Jones on. Noticed his Date of birth a few days back. 21/2/92...

Feels weird.

A newbie pointed out that Jones was born on the same date Duncan Edwards died.

De Gea, Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Jones, Cleverley and Welbeck are all younger than me. Feels weird as only three or four years ago the entire squad was older than me.

That's a real endorsement of the lad from SAF. He's been great this season, under the pressure of joining such a huge club, for a big fee with only a limited amount of experience.

He's already showed himself to be a leader.

First time of many he'll wear the armband for United and probably England as well.

Chuffed to bits for him.

Fantastic vote of confidence, even if it is just a bit of rubber. There just seems to be such a pre-ordained and great destiny to Jones. :D

Next step in that life journey is when you start seeing players finish their career that you remember starting their career - then after that, when you start hearing commentators refer to someone who's younger than you as a 'veteran'.

Not had the latter yet - have had dozens of the former.

On topic - chuffed for Jones tonight. Deserved - and it'll make him feel like he's standing 10 feet tall, walking out that team just days after he turned 20.

Great news for the lad. was always going to happen eventually, but am surprised it happened so soon! He is the obvious choice though, when you see who's playing.

 Well guess we can't trust Uefa.com's Europa League live cast. Feckers.

So what actually happened with this captaincy thing then?

He's been swopped around position-wise to the extent that he doesn't look comfortable at CB. He basically plays CB like David Luiz, minus the spastic passes to opposition strikers. He follows every run, even if it is a striker dropping deep into his midfield area, which leaves gaps that shouldn't be there.

He'll hopefully learn this, he's a great athlete and I love watching him play, his power is awesome. But at the moment he's a bit of a headless chicken and a liability as a CB.

Agreed to an extent. Being swapped around positions doesn't help...but let's not forget he's only 20 - give him time and he can stamp out all the weaknesses he has at CB...

Some people seem to forget his age and put too much onus on him - he's no Vidic yet...but in a few years...

That was all very weird last night with the captaincy thing.

Love how if it happens at a proper, well run club like ours, it's no big deal - if it happened at somewhere like Chelsea there'd be dressing room civil war, punch ups, power struggles and some serious pouting.

Really not a centre back atm, to be fair I've never thought he would be one. Didn't play there much at Blackburn, only really or the u21s and I've never been overly impressed. In midfield however I think he will be a gun.

He went mental when we scored the winner yesterday and started doing some kind of peculiar dance, love him.

He's next to steward flailing his arms all over the gaff before finishing with a fist pump.

Props to Olly for the GIF.

Loved that celebration.
Giggsy went completely mental, hitting Jones in the process :D
