Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Shocking dive yesterday as Jazz said if that was Nani the media would be burning him at the stake.

He dissapeared second half when the the game got away from Spurs, a very good player Bale is- world class he is not.

Would you have expected Nani or Rooney to go down in the same situation?

Surely you would. Nothing shocking at all about his dive

As an aside, can everyone please postpone the Bale-bashing until after our next PL game?

I appreciate it makes absolutely no difference in reality but it always pains me when these things bite us on the arse. And they often do.

No doubt they would - would it bother me? of course not if it benefits united- i would not pretend otherwise, but just becuase i am morally bankrupt does not make it right.

Diving is so utterly ubiquitous now it is almost pointless bringing it up at all. That is players from all teams. The only thing that really gets me is situations where you have the likes of Gerrard, up there with the league's most shameless divers, banging on about the evils of diving. The flagrant hypocrisy of it.

Otherwise, it is all just footballers trying to win for their team at all costs. Itd be nice if it didnt happen but in this world all we can hope for is strong referees.

The most annoying thing regarding diving is when the ref does not give a penalty but does not book the player for a dive, like with Ashley Young against Chelsea at the bridge- he was either grabbed or dived from the referee's view of it- he could not come to any other conclusion, he did not give the penalty but did not book him. In that instance it was not his shirt being pulled that actually caused him to go down though, he legs got took from under him, yet no one seemed to notice.

Morally bankrupt would suggest you honestly don't give a shit about whether it's right or not. Since you clearly do, this must mean you are simply morally hypocritical!

If you prefer hypocrisy to bankrupcy, then you are already even better off than you thought you were! ;)

Good point, i actually don't care i was just being your typical whinger, Spurs apart from when we play them do not effect us anyway.

Obvious dive yesterday. The kind of stuff that makes them deserve to lose the game.

Was it though?? Or could you only tell it was after a replay or two??

If you called that as a dive in real time on first viewing, I'll be mightly impressed.

I didn't think it looked a dive first time round but it didn't look like a penalty either, seemed pretty clear Szczesny didn't touch him. Still not convinced it was a dive after the replays although I didn't really pay much attention, was there definitely no contact from behind?

If I was a Spurs fan and he did not go down I would have been furious with Bale.

It was well executed and keeper should have been sent off.

Even accepting your extremely warped views on diving for a moment; how can you possibly say the keeper should have been sent off when he didn't actually foul him?

Seemed to think he could waltz all over the pitch yesterday, to the detriment of the team.

 Yeah I noticed that. Apparently he has a licence to roam now, so he's drifting inside a lot more. Seems stupid considering how effective he is on the wing hugging the touchline and running at the fullback. It's not even as if they need him inside anyway, seeing as they have Modric who's more than capable of dictating play, and also Van Der Vaart dropping off into the whole when he plays.

It was baffling! A tactical own goal if ever i saw one! Doesn't fill me with optimism regarding his ability to do the England job!

The best way to nullify pace is by denying pacy players space to run in to, doubling up on the wings etc. To allow Bale to operate centrally serves no other purpose than partially nullify his most dangerous attribute, his pace and power, by operating in the most generally congested areas.

As you rightly say, they have Modric for dictating play through the middle, so why not just use Bale where he has previously been most effective? Spurs were terrible yesterday, and Redknapp and his tactics have to shoulder the vast majority of the blame for that imo.

Not that i am generally bothered about England but if Redknapp does get the job i will become a full on German national.

But that is for another discussion.

If they play Bale in the role he played against Arsenal it just leaves more room for whoever we have down the wing to destroy Essou-Needs A New Hairdo.

He dived, he's not foreign, so it doesn't count. People will always look for an excuse (did Gibbs brush him?) when it comes to a homegrown player, Ronaldo got hounded for going down like that, Rooney less so when he does, and Gerrard barely at all.

As for the keeper, if he got sent off there, would have been a terrible decision.

If I remember well, he is the only player in league who got two yellow cards this season for diving, and should have got couple more. This doesn't surprise me at all, but it's unfair to other players like Nani who get unfair criticism.

I agree with all of this.

I don't mind Bale roaming around to some (limited) extent, provided he sticks to a LW role most of the time where he is most effective. The fact that lately he's been allowed to roam so freely is down to Harry.

Spurs play best with at least one - and preferably two - pacy wingers. But on Sunday we had Lennon on the bench and Bale going walkabouts.

Cheating diving scumbag

How sad a terrific young lad needs to resort to this EVERY GAME now

Every fking game. He really is in the Ronaldo class with this and it wont be ling before the refs stop giving him decisions even if he does get fouled.

Bring that day on

Bale has been roaming a lot more this entire season, with good stats to show for it actually. That goal against Norwich is just one good example of it. Same against Liverpool, when he got their only chance, but couldn't convert it.

It's generally a strange move when VdV is playing, or they have two strikers up though.

Didn't watch them against Arsenal mind, so I can't speak for how he played there. I would imagine shite for the better part of 70 minutes though, much like I suspect the rest of his team did.

If the ref thought it was a foul and it certainly was a clear scoring chance, then it should have been a red.

Ref bottled it

He'd already run the ball too far, which is why he chucked himself over. Adding a sending off to a pen would have been adding insult to injury. Parker had a good old go at getting him a red tho'.

According to ArseBlog, before this he has already got 2 yellow cards for simulation and yet he's still not counted as a diver but someone like Nani who has really stopped his diving still gets the diving tag. Irritating.

Because hes british and the press all cling onto him like a pissed up holiday maker on a banana boat.

Nani gets a bad rap because hes portguese, just like most muslims get labelled as suicide bombers.

I dont really care though if im honest, nani stays on his feet alot of the time and only really goes down when he gets properly kicked.

A few times he went down against norwich but they were doing there best to injure him with a few nasty tackles. But he never retaliates and always stays composed.

Bale on the other hand has a nasty streak in him and cant wait to kick back

Bale is a fairly honest player to be honest. Even our own Rooney has had the odd dive. If yoru opponent is kicking you or really winding you up then the likes of Bale will take a dive once in a while but all in all I would say he is a fairly honest player

Yep he is. No reason to put the "diver" stamp on him yet on the basis of one single situation.

Obviously that's why he has already been booked twice for simulation even if we don't count the incident against Arsenal. But yeah he is not a diver.

The original argument that if it was Nani who was booked twice for simulation, then the british media would've raised this fact every week but because of Bale being british this goes un-noticed. Rooney has dived 3-4 times in his career, Bale has dived three times already in this season, some difference in that.

Probably because opposing defenders are a hell of a lot more likely to kick out at players with pace that they think they can bully like Bale, Nani or Ronaldo rather then Rooney. God bless the defender that tries to get a few sly kicks in on Rooney is all I can say!!

He got roughed up vs Chelsea in one game last season, remember Essien and some other player getting away with taking him out

What is Rooney gonna do ?

How many times did you see nani diving?
And, btw, rooney is diver.

I dont think this incident did Nani many favours. I have no issue with diving to gain an advantage as I have said many times on the forum. But even I almost cringed at this

That was three or four years ago, and because of that people are still calling him diver and cheater. I can't remember when is the last time he dived. Bale does it every weekend and he is fairly honest player.
