Yes but I don't expect any employer to pay for any employees I have. A car is one thing, asking for double the wages and oh yeah pay this guy for me will you is taking the piss.

His wage demands (if true) are frankly ridiculous and he should be more concerned with earning his money at the moment, but I don't think it's particularly outrageous for him to ask for his agent fees to be part of his package if that's what the club are doing with other deals. I don't know whether United do do that as the norm, so there's an amount of assumption there, but it seems a strange point of contention. If he's asking for something we don't usually do with anyone else then absolutely he's taking the piss (even more so on top of the apparent wage demands).

What I do know is that clubs paying agent fees isn't in itself unusual.

Rooney's situation was a bit different as he was a proven world class player and an integral part of our first XI.

You'd be very misguided if you, as a reserve team prospect, are even considering such behaviour acceptable and plausible when it comes to your own (Pogba's, in this case) situation.

Rooney's behaviour in his saga was also rather misguided, if you don't remember.

This might not necessarily be just about money, rather a case of acting like a cnut gets you your own way.

Ok, I'm reliably informed that united do NOT pay agents fees for contract renewals. For transfers in and out it depends on the deal. We clearly do chuck money at agents for favours though, Mendes, gestifute, bla bla bla.

The issue for me is the precedent it sets for other players. We can easily afford £40k p/w, and if we did that, the player comes good and demands £100k in a couple of years we could afford that too (like we did with Rooney) - IF the player is worth it.

The problem is, you give Pogba £40k, and then another 5 promising youth players want pay rises. Then you get squad players not on much more than that who are surely aren't going to be happy being on a similar wage to an 18yr old prospect, and they want a pay rise, etc etc. It's a domino effect.

The end result is that retaining Pogba hasn't just cost us £40k, but rather the combined total of all those pay rises probably going over £100k quite easily. And at that point, the old "why didn't we just sign Modric on £100k" argument seems a lot more realistic, no?

The end result is Arsenal 2012.

This article in the Telegraph appears to suggest that he wants to stay:

Mino Raiola, who represents 18 year-old Pogba, as well as Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli, has admitted that talks with United over a new deal for French youngster have yet to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson publicly questioned the advice being given to Pogba by his representatives two months ago, but the Scot’s revelation last week that Rio Ferdinand has been helping to convince the player to stay at Old Trafford was viewed as a sign of progress in attempts to tie the former Le Havre player down to a long-term contract.
Ferguson then hinted that Pogba would play some part against Ajax, but with the player omitted from the match day squad and understood to have trained with the reserves on the day of the game, progress on contract talks now appears to have ground to a halt.
“We are discussing with the club – that is the situation.” Raiola said. “It is a precarious situation and it is difficult at the moment.
“Manchester United want him. It is up to the boy to make some decisions. It is never nice for the player not to be in the squad.
“It is the same for any player, including Balotelli, but we must keep our minds cool and heads cool. Some things are good. Some things are not good [in this situation.]”
United overcame stern resistance from Le Havre to sign Pogba in Oct 2009, with the French outfit threatening to report the Old Trafford club to Fifa for poaching before ultimately standing aside.
A rangy midfielder, Pogba is regarded as a genuine talent and prospect by United, but has yet to start a game having made four substitute appearances.
United have an option to extend his contract by one-year beyond this summer, but Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester City and Arsenal all monitoring Pogba, Raiola insists that every avenue will be explored in order to agree a deal at Old Trafford.
“We know there are some clubs interested in him.” Raiola said. “We must finish first with Manchester and after that we will see other options, if they are there.
“The club give the indication that they want to keep him. We are talking contract terms. There is willingness from both parties at the moment.”

Pogba thinks both cities are great, both clubs can give him playtime, so Juventus has to persuade him with money.

I do wonder if a young player truly believes in himself if he's looking for such short cuts. I mean, if you think you have what it takes and you're at Manchester United, it's only time before the big bucks come your way.

He seems to use Twitter a lot:

Twitter

Has talked quite a bit in the last 20 or so minutes about Pogba:

manufan1337 ‏ @manufan1337
@MRaiola Please talk sense into the lad, he's got a great future ahead of him if he stays. He can become a star at United.

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@manufan1337 He can also be a star at Juventus.

Lewis.. ‏ @Lewis0161
@MRaiola @manufan1337 lets be honest here, if you had a choice to be a star at United or Juve every player would pick United. Talk to him!!!

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@Lewis0161 @manufan1337 Juventus is back at the top again! Also a good motivation. So it will be a close call.

Lewis.. ‏ @Lewis0161
@MRaiola @manufan1337 can't beat the Premier League. His choice but don't let money motivate him, he will be successful at United

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola

Omid N ‏ @Omidn7
@MRaiola wouldn't you prefer him to stay at united?

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@Omidn7 It's his choice, i can't give him a better advice to follow his heart.

Mark mufc ‏ @MarkMr
@MRaiola what do united have to convince him with? A signing on fee for you?

Mino Raiola Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@MarkMr A signing.

Omid N ‏ @Omidn7
@MRaiola seems like more competition at juve compared to Manchester at the end of the season. With both Giggs and scholes likely done

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@Omidn7 Call some players..?

Ashley Dawkins ‏ @Ashhley2012
@MRaiola although #juve are an excellent side but idk if they wud play him or not I mean look at #Elia hardly played at all this season

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@Ashhley2012 Elia has hard competition, but next season he will do it great, i think.

Mark mufc ‏ @MarkMr
So @MRaiola effectively says Pogba wants united to sign better players for him to play with. We're still a damn sight better than juve

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@MarkMr I didnt said that. I said that the money has to persuade him.

barry connolly ‏ @barcon1989
@MRaiola so is pogba staying or goin??since ** his agents you should know

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@barcon1989 You're thinking to easy... ;) We will see in the summer!

Mino Raiola ‏ @MRaiola
@thequinndog Did i ever said he's leaving? Maybe he will choose for Man Utd's money.

Heh. So much for blaming the club, it's obvious that his agent has been offered more money from Juventus.

Also found this interesting a guy asked him "what do united have to convince him with? A signing on fee for you?"

His reply "A Signing"

feck me he's 18 and still wants a signing so that he could be convinced to sign a new contract. Astounding attitude.

It's interesting the way he words it. We've all been assuming there's a hefty offer on the table from Juve, which United are refusing to match (I blame RedRichio's twitter mate ;)).

According to the lardy Italian, he's still waiting to see how much Juve are willing to pay.

Rooney's behaviour in his saga was also rather misguided, if you don't remember.

Don't be naive mate. Had this not been about money he'd have signed the contract long ago. Go look at Juve's midfield and tell me he'd get more opportunities there than here.

And if that Raiola tweet is real, then I rest my case.

In fairness for that one I think he read it as "a signing or fee for you?". That's how I read it at first and his response makes more sense that way.

It's all about money. It doesn't surprise me, after he didn't hesitate to feck off out of Le Havre to join United. He can feck off from United even if he's as talented as Messi.

I can't believe he's actually tweeted all of that. Pretty unprofessional IMO. Players really should manage their representatives better.

Or alternatively he's trying to see if he can squeeze even more out of them. I guess that's his job. He's trying to create an auction. I doubt he's telling either side what the other is offering.

You've got to wonder if the club are urging Pogba to ditch his agent as part of the deal. Yer man sounds like a loose cannon. After all the shit with Joorabchain, I reckon Fergie can't be arsed with another player managed by a parasite.

It's all so fecking grubby. Especially now his agent is blabbing on twitter. Show me the money!

Modern football is just depressing.

It's disgusting. He's literally being whored out to the highest bidder right now and his agent is voicing it out in public.

If this the situation at 18 imagine if he actually becomes a good player and actually has lots of options.

thats slightly different though aye..

Jumping from le Havre to man utd, or going from utd to juve :wenger:

I can't believe he's actually tweeted all of that. Pretty unprofessional IMO. Players really should manage their representatives better.

I don't really think the players can really manage their agents. They should do a better job of finding a proper one to represent them.

Yep. I agree with you both. Doesn't look good at all.

I hope we are. Having this clown hanging around all the time would be the horrible influence. And I'm it does have an effect on other young players at the club. Also, for Pogba's own good, and he IS still just a kid, it makes sense to get rid of this guy and focus on bigger things in his career.

That is an interesting issue you are bringing up. But how confident are we that he will actually drop his agent? I mean ultimately it is him who is also getting a better deal and therefore more money.

It'd be nice to think that could happen.

I didn't mean they were the same you genius. It just shows you in a way the level of loyalty modern day footballers have for the clubs who have developed them. Most of the time , they don't give a feck.
It's actually worse to leave United for Juve, you'd have thought Pogba would learn to make better choices (if he leaves)

@thequinndog Did i ever said he's leaving? Maybe he will choose for Man Utd's money.

It obvious it nothing to do with playing and more down to the money. The agent had a big affect on him, Shame so many young players are so easily led.

I don't really think the players can really manage their agents. They should do a better job of finding a proper one to represent them.

What I mean is that the agent is only providing services to the player. In the end he only aids the player in his dealings in return for monetary compensation. The player can choose to curb an agent if he really wants to. But my guess that most of them are swayed by the promises the agents makes in return based on what he's done for players previously. But I do aree, choosing them better is the first step to sort out. However I do think that an agent being a representative of the player can be curbed if the player wants to.

This is disgusting. He's turned Pogba to an item in an auction. I'm absolutely stunned he's written that. The player will have no long term future at any club with that agent. He'll be an Anelka, if he can get to that level.
