Athletic Bilbao vs Manchester United

And continue to get completely overun. How about pushing the player that has only played well on the wing this season, on the wing, and bring on an actual midfielder.

Madness although I wasn't being serious. Even if we play a 3 man midfield we wont win this match, but maybe with 5 central mid fielders in 3 positions (Rooney left wing, Scholes off Hernandez, Giggs-Cleverley CM), we can keep position and create stuff for Hernandez and Young.

The Caf: OMG we can't keep the ball, they're so much better than us blah blah

ESPN and BBC Live Text: Possession=50-50.

We were cack at OT at keeping the ball but we haven't be bad at all today, blunt admittedly but nowhere near as bad as some have suggested.

Stats mean feck all if the content of the match isn't taken into account

Not sure why so many are suprised that we lack creativity and general technical ability. It's been staring us in the face for the last 2 seasons!

This team are 7th in La Liga. Wow! The PL is piss poor.

That said we get an early goal, they are young team and their heads might drop.

To be fair, Liverpool have tormented us at times at Anfield.

Can we focus on this game please, and not keep banging on about the Wolves game every 10 seconds?

Yes. 90 minutes now, 90 minutes on Sunday and then a weeks rest before the next game. I think professional athletes can handle that.

This is not a particularly young or inexperienced team.

We need better players in order to compete with the top Spanish teams. We are miles off them.

We've a substantial squad of good players but few truly top players, if any tbh.

Oh look, it's retard land.

If we are going out then let's go out with our heads held high! We need to get a grip, get the ball on the ground and start playing some decent football. Anything else is a bonus.

I'm not holding my breath.

I was thinking the same thing, we have been much better than last game. After first 15 minutes we have been decent, although we are lacking little penetration. We were really poor in the last game though.

We lack a bit of quality in the front 6. Never say die spirit can't compensate for that. Away from home. Against a team driven on by fanatical fans.

Sure do. You do like to give up pretty fecking easily, don't you?

If we didn't have a match on Sunday I'd love us to keep Rooney and Carrick out there but 3 days is too little a gap between matches so yes I rather avoid fatigue and injury.

Thats right. A lack of one touch football complete explains our absolute loss at closing down.. ffs

You're a clown, stop fecking talking

Are you for real?

When you are being closed down like that you play one touch football to negate it. Think about it!

:wenger:

I've taken them into account, we've kept the ball well or much better than we did in the First Leg without being particularly threatening. If this was the First Leg the attitude would be much different in here.

Well, as a good number of posters on here said before the match: Play Park and Giggs together and we'll struggle.

Shock.

Fergie clearly doesn't give a crap. Get Rooney and Carrick off and admit defeat. This is pathetic and embarassing.

We have played decent football today actually.

They are defending incredibly well, are pressing us high up the pitch and are technically very good. Don't think we can beat that. Rooneys first touch and passing is totally crap. Cleverleys apart from a few fouls has been hiding pretty well and parks been more sitting on the floor than running on it.
Generally bilbao look like a weaker barcelona with the way they play. Nice football to watch tbh

Expect more of the same. We are going out and excuses that we don't want to win goes against what this club stands for. Simple fact is we are limited against hard pressing sides. We crumble. Its happened so often yet saf hasn't got a solution.

Just like what happened in Newcastle

To whoever pointed it out, we've had lots of posession, sure. Only problem is that we've almost never been able to get the ball through Bilbao's first line of defence.

We're looking like we're trying though, but we're just up against a better team. It's sad, but true judged on a match and a half of football played.

Will have to pull something of a miracle out of our asses to turn this one around, but given that we still haven't won a match after going under this season I don't see that as very likely.

That's a very peculiar admission considering you've praised the Spanish style which doesn't really rely on a bond-fide star as we've witnessed with this Bilbao team.

Not really, I say that as a 'Spanish style' is as likely as me winning the lottery for our team. It simply isn't on Fergie's agenda. A star player is the only thing that'll see us beat teams like this.

I disagree. Why risk Rooney? He has faith in the team he picks to win the game as he always does.

English club in technically superior Spanish humiliation shocker.

English clubs can spend all the money they like, at foundation level they are technically inferior both on the ball and off the ball to Spanish teams. United were never in this tie, without the big star in the team we are utterly hopeless against a team like this.

All this bullshit about technical this and technical that.

We simply don't have as good players in the PL right now. City have some outstanding players which they stole from La Liga.

Arsenal have whored their best players off and never invest. Chelski have blew it with buying players at their peak four years ago and having no contingency plan having chopped through managers. We on the other hand haven't got a single world class player IMO.

Please, please can we see some genuinely exciting players signed who might help us raise a level, not simply decent PL players.

Definitely not. But we haven't even tried. We are way weaker than then with Ronaldo, Tevez gone. The defence also weaker.

How have we not tried? We have brought in a lot of young players, hopefully with a great future

Did you want the club to magically make £200 million appear and buy 5 or 6 huge name players.

More magnets.

You know what's pathetic and embarrassing? Fans like you who seemingly want us to lose.

We're United, we're in a European competition, we've got to do our best to win it. Not fecking admit defeat.

feckin' hell.

Sorry if you thought I aimed the comment directly at you.It was more in general, the possession of the ball may be even but the quality of their ball retention pisses all over ours.

Might have something to do with Bilbao holding a comfortable lead. They can afford to let us have the ball.

Evra's really bad at defending, not sure what he or Young were doing on that off the post chance.
