Berbatov | Fulham player

I'm one of those Berba fan boys and I take issue with people calling him a flop, but I think Berbatov is responsible for the way his United career never hit the heights it could have.

He is stuck in his ways and his stubborn refusal to adapt to the United style has cost him. He is a brilliant player and like all brilliant players, they can adapt to their surroundings. His mantra of "real quality takes little effort" was never going to jibe with the Manchester United Way or the Premier League style for that matter.

He is a striker, and while his goal tally for us is very good, it could have been better. It's another instance of Berbatov being stuck in his ways. He has said numerous times about his desire to create beautiful football and being happier with an assist than a goal. At the end of the day, he is striker and strikers are judged by goals scored. I can't count how many times I've seen Berbatov, pass up shooting opportunities and can remember games where he never took a single shot. It's no wonder why Michael Owen or Hernandez get the nod if we ever need a goal. They'll shoot, Berba won't.

I wish he wasn't leaving, but best of luck to him. I hope he goes to La Liga or Serie A, where I'm guaranteed to get to see Berba every week, either amazing me or frustrating the hell out of me.

Say what you want about Berbatov not living up to expectations, but he is still better than Chicharito and Welbeck.

Baffled at why he literally never plays.

I love our 2 young strikers but they have had their ups and downs this season.

I think our dodgy home form this season comes down to inexperienced strikers and the lack of Berbatov who shat on opponents last season at Old Trafford.

The difference is that Welbeck and Hernandez fit into our team better, and usually are better when it comes to linking up with Rooney. I don't doubt that Berbatov is the better footballer, but it's not as simple as that when it comes to selecting a team.

I believe Fergie is not playing Berbatov because he is building and shaping this new team.

This shift has cost us in Europe this season.

I think he would tear the italian league apart.

Looks like he won't play again for us. Maybe he'll get a farewell 5mins in the last game.

I sincerely hope he does. I still can't believe Fergie didn't get the best out of him, and I'm not blaming Berba either

Agreed, I've never really thought Berbatov would work at united and preferred Tevez in the team than Berbatov (before Tevez became a nob). But... Berbatov is a top class player and I'm amazed that we've never been able to get the best out of him. It's a real shame.

I realise some players don't fit in with us immediately but I'm shocked it's never worked out properly . People can bang on all they like about his work rate but I just think he's been frozen out completely

Right player, wrong time. He and Veron will be forever remembered as classy players who joined us at the wrong time. If he was here during the time of Nistelrooy where our strikers weren't expected to do much tracking, he would have been a perfect partner for Ruud. :(

Except we played 4-5-1 quite a bit when Ruud was here. So Berbatov would be out cold with Scholes ahead of him.

Unfortunately for Berbatov, we have to play 4-4-2 to fit him in and the last time we consistently played that was before Ruud's time in the era of Sheringham, Yorke, Cole and Solskjaer. That was when we didn't expect one of the front strikers to track.

We could make 4-4-2 work with the players we had, Keane and Scholes in midfield, and Giggs and Beckham running down the wings and Berbatov in a free role with Ruud upfront could work, in theory at least. Would be some sight watching that team play together.

Not when we're also trying to fit Veron into the team and Keane's legs were starting to go. Fergie was starting to change the team so we would be more effective in Europe.

Any reason you say this? Think you're just taking a wild guess if I'm honest. A fecking stupid one at that.

Well, he's been completely frozen out for a while now. We only have 1 game a week, he's not an impact player, Fergie's been talking Owen up and Berba doesn't even make the bench lately.

I don't think he'll play again, unless it's a game where we have to go gung-ho and we throw everything we have at the opposition. Or of course, if the title is won/lost before the end.

to be honest at the time i wanted tevez but im very happy to have see. berba with a smile on his face instead of frankenstein neck.

Anyone else think he's now played his last game for the club? Cant even make the bench these days, seems he's been well and truly fazed out now it's known he's leaving in the summer.

He might get a cameo in home game (maybe Swansea) as a farewell, but if he's not on the bench against a team he's scored 7 against in his last 2 starts then I think he's done here sadly :(

I just cannot understand why he's so out of favour he can't even get on the bench.

Hernandez isn't exactly playing brilliantly and Welbeck's gone off the boil a bit. He's a brilliant player, I just don't get it, has he been banging Fergie's missus or got his grandkids into smoking fags or what?

hes got nothing to do with Man Utd in the future so I think Fergie is just leaving him out for good.

I think he's been decent for us, but when he didn't make the bench for the CL final the writing was on the wall.

What happened to turn Fergie so massively against Berbatov? He's given him no chance at all this year. As someone said, it's not as if his competition has been great.

There must be a story behind it. Total exclusion is not justified by the relative performances of Berbatov, Hernandez and Welbeck.

My guess is Fergie just decided he isn't a Man United player. Doesn't have the character, doesn't want it enough.

And he's right. It's just that not every single player who plays regularly for us is. And Berbatov's got pretty much the best touch I've ever seen aside from Giggs, Bergkamp and telly.

That's probably it.

Tevez, on the other hand, was born to be a United player. And we effectively sacrificed him for Berbatov. Not one of Fergie's more inspired moments.
