Blackburn Rovers v Manchester Utd

Sean's team
Starting XI

Bench: Amos, Smalling, Jones, Pogba, Welbeck, Berbatov, Chicharito
Not in the squad: Giggs, Park, Fabio
Out: Vidic, Nani, Fletcher, Anderson, Owen, Lindegaard, Fryers, W.Keane

Some words to the team-selection
I think we're needing definitely five players in midfield against Blackburn and i want to see finally Cleverley-Carrick-Scholes in the same team.
Three strikers on the bench is a lot but Giggs is terrible in the last weeks, Park is terrible the whole season and we don't need three defenders (Fabio) on the bench.

Agree with that.

I'd like to see that side but we won't. Welbeck and/or Hernandez will start.

I reckon we should just go for our strongest team which for me involves Rooney playing behind Welbeck. As long as he drops back to help us when we don't have the ball we shouldn't need to worry about getting over run their. Considering clev has been injured and was pretty poor in his last game I think we should put him on the bench and bring him on if we're comfortable.

With Welbeck we get more possession as he likes to drop deep and get involved more than Cheech. The Little Pea is a deadlier finisher, and probably gives you more goals per hour. But Welbeck's assists will make up for it, as well as the diminished opportunities for our opponent because of our increased possession.

If the operation to transplant Scholesy's head onto Pogba's body was a success then I think we win the game. Let's just hope the stitches don't come undone like with Smalling.

This is the best suggestion of "what is our top11 in '11"..

Nothing top this game and we are up against the team who have struggled most of the year. Valencia and Rooney, they are our spears and they will have to carry us to the title..

I know the the "title" is a word we don't wanna use this time of year, but still this is the game that will push us deeply towards it and five +points will carry us far this season..

If Manchester United are crowned Premier League champions at the end of the season, Blackburn Rovers, who host Sir Alex Ferguson's team on Monday, will cash in to the tune of £2million.

That is the sum United would have to pay Rovers as part of the 'add-ons' involved in defender Phil Jones's move from Ewood Park to Old Trafford last summer.

United agreed to pay a basic £16.5m for 20-year-old Jones, with £12.375m of that paid on the date he was officially registered as a United player - July 1 last year - and the balance of £4.125m on July 1 this year.

On top of that, Blackburn will get a £2m payment on the first occasion United win either the Premier League or the Champions League with Jones at the club, as long as he has started half or more of the games in the relevant competition.

Jones is already guaranteed that in the league this season, so if United win the title, they will pay Rovers that £2m.

We have only won 2 of the last 11 at Blackburn :nervous:

I have a love/hate relationship with this point of the season. I just love, love the feeling of fighting for the title, but I hate the nerves that comes with it.

I think this is a really tough game on paper. Our record at Ewood isn't that great. 2 wins in 11. We've drawn most of the others but after the City-Sunderland result, a draw here would feel like a defeat. It's so imperative that we win. Blackburn unfortunately have found some decent form of late and are under increased pressure themselves to win after Wigan, QPR and Bolton all picked up 3 points at the weekend.

I will be watching this very nervously. All that can really stop it is a couple of early goals.

I would suggest that playing 5 in midfield is a very good idea. We need to keep the ball as much as possible and not let Rovers build up a head of steam in front of their home fans. I strongly suspect Fergie will go 4-4-2 with Valencia, Scholes, Carrick and Young in midfield with Rooney and Welbeck up front. And I see the logic in that, but honestly, i would prefer in this instance to drop Welbeck to the left and draft Cleverley into midfield. at the expense of Young. Despite his good form. When the two youngsters are on the pitch together they combine terrifically. We haven't had the opportunity to see that since the start of the season, as it seems that one is subbed on as the other is subbed off. Their interplay makes them both look a lot better.

could very well decide the season. had better be the hardest line-up possible. no thoughts of rest, or getting someone minutes, no one in odd positions. it better be take no prisoners...all game long!

Never agreed with these clauses. Can lead to a huge conflict of interest. Not on this occasion, but the potential is always there.

I hate this fixture.

I'd take an offside handball controlled dive for a penalty in the 6th minute of 3 mins of ET as long as we get 3 points.

like that side with smalling at right back

can't see him leaving out Danny/Chica though

Me too

1-1. Scholesy sent off in the 57th. Dramatic late equaliser from sub Phil Jones, deflected in off his tongue.

After Brad Friedel makes a string of impossible one handed saves despite being sat at home watching himself on television.

Well that's tonights corruption link should we win tonight then.

I'm sure Venky's will somehow misinterpret that and assume that it means they win the title and not us.

I reckon Danny will again start on the left, with Rooney and Hernandez as strikers.

I don't know, I think SAF really likes Young on the left. He took out Danny after a very good game to put Young back in for you last one, iirc.

Young has played good enough recently. Well atleast if he lost the ball he tracks back and puts pressure on the player carrying to ball out. Tony V is one of the first nmaes on the team sheet currently. Chico looked sharp when he came on the last day. Ok he paniced a little in the box, but his first touch and passing was better than it usually is. So I'd expect them 4 to start if we were to play 2 up top.

I imagine that it's no coincidence that old telekenetic, goalkeeper-possession expert aka 'The One' Diouf spent some time at Blackburn. Through him the Evil Freidel has left his United-thwarting legacy

5 more hours! This is going to feel like 25!

You have to love this time of the year, any goal we score will get me jumping up and down and yelling.

Seems funny in a way considering all games count the same. But SAF is a genius at dealing with a long season, when is that last time United weren't playing their best at the end of the season?

It's no time for trying to get back to an Anderson-Cleverley midfield, that for sure!

Just finished a light training session having returned from a short squad training camp to Scotland. We trained really well over the weekend and the boys looked focused. Results went our way, but it is up to us as a team to take advantage with a good result tonight
Wayne Rooney

Flying the squad to Scotland and back right before an away trip seems a bit odd, though I don't doubt the bonding and the break may have positive effects.

We need to batter Blackburn tonight. None of this getting a goal then farting around for the rest of the match. GD is still 3 so I hope we close that up.
