It was a very poor performance, but when you come out with two goals you can't complain really. If he can have this sort of impact during his bad games, instead of barron spells, that's more than we can hope for. His passing of late is just unbelievable though, it goes from being beyond spectacular, to being unable to play a simple ten yard pass. His movement has still been consistently excellent though, which makes the distrubution all the more noticeable.
his passing was off certainly.
but he played well under pressure to score the peno and his attempts at goal were very good. He scored off a not very easy chance.
that is the class of the player.
Genuinely awful? Jesus christ.
2 goals and involved in lots of build up play, He hasnt been genuinely awful whatsoever.
People need to get over this hatred of Rooney, without him wed be struggling. Without Wayne Rooney in the team, we dont look the same side. Hes a special player
That's very far from being true, unless being involved in the build up play involves constantly passing the ball to the other team and ending the actual build up play.
When he wasn't scoring goals, his touch was brilliant and so was his passing and now that he's scoring goals he's completely forgotten how to pass the ball. But as long as he continues to score, I won't complain.
But should we move Rooney further up and play him like we did in the 2009-10 season?

For those wages, he should perform every game.

The amount of attacks that broke down because he gave the ball away, I'd have said that was the last thing to highlight. His movement was great though.

He was failing with simple passes today often in the first half and sometimes in the second.
As against that he scored two goals and has moved onto 31 for the season.
To be honest, I'm fairly happy with his season. He's the only player we have at the club currently capable of a 30+ goal return and when you consider he's anything but simply a goalgetter he's worth the money he gets every week.
It's not though, really.
Fair enough he wasnt at his best and mis-placed quite a few passes, but I thought he contributed in some of our play, and scored 2 important goals. He wasnt genuinely awful. People expect too much of him

This thread should have been bumped purely to praise him passing the 30 goal mark.
We are so fortunate to have such a player
Sorry, but I can't believe you're arguing this. His passing was completely off the boil, he probably misplaced more of his forward passes than he actually made.
I'm not downplaying the goals, his movement was also good. So no, he wasn't "awful" per say, he just wasn't good, and saying he was involved in most of our build up play is quite frankly, nonsensical.
