The only reason why this has dragged on is because we are so close to clinching our 20th league title...

Once its done, we'll give him a contract, if he signs he signs, if not then we'd lose another potentially good youngster, but I'm pretty sure we have a lot more talent popping up and it wouldn't be the end of us...

When he finally signs for someone, the thread title will be changed/amended, right? If I knew that I could refrain from coming in there again until there is some real news.

You think United is not able to issue a contract in April? I didnt know our lawyers are also on the training ground every day

This whole saga isn't 'appeasing the fans' though. Even if he does eventually sign a new contract alot if fans will find it fairly worrying that its taken 6 months or more to persuade a completely unproven youngster that we're a club worth playing for. At best it'll be a relief if he stays, not a cause for celebration.

The fans wont care about that. If he signs then everything will be water under the bridge. You would be amazed on how close Keane was in signing with Juventus a couple of years back. And yet.....no one gave a feck about this 'act of betrayal' at all.

If we can sign Ruud or Hernandez in April, I'm sure we can handle signing a new contract with a current player of ours.

Gianluca Di Marzio says now Pogba to Juventus is verbally agreed.

5-year contract and he'll be on €1.2 mill per year.

this has always been the case according to raiola though has it not?

He has always said he has 2 options, Juventus or manchester utd.

He just needs to decide where he wants to stay.

But just becuase raiola has agreed a deal "verbally" with juventus, if pogba decides utd is where he wants to stay, it will happen.

Yeah, David Gill is probably so busy training with our first team and preparing himself for Everton game that he can't even speak to Pogba.

come on devilish how close was keane to signin for juve and how do you know?

My hunch is he is leaving, and maybe the club and the player are happy to keep that fact quiet until the end of the season.

...and we are still making space for him in our match day squad, often ahead of Berbatov?

Fergie wouldn't waste his time trying to convince Pogba to stay if he was leaving, it's not his style. It wouldn't surprise me if the deal is done for him to stay, but they are keeping it under wraps until the summer.

Oh, well thank goodness for that!

Fergie wouldn't waste his time trying to convine Pogba to stay if he was leaving, it's not his style. It wouldn't surprise me if the deal is done for him to stay, but they are keeping it under wraps until the summer.

Why would we do that? What possible positive outcome could that have for us?

Didn't Keane admit it himself? That he would've gone to Juventus if we hadn't offered him £50k a week deal?

There's absolutely no reason to do that. It destabilises the club and destabilises the player. There's no doubt we've either lost him already or are fighting to keep him.

Manchester United are not pressuring Paul Pogba to make a quick decision regarding his future. The midfielder is deciding whether to swap Old Trafford for Juventus, although the Italian club have made no "firm" offer, according to Mino Raiola, his agent.

Raiola was in Manchester on Thursday for talks with United who are keen for the 19-year-old to sign a new deal when his contract expires in the summer. Pogba is also interesting Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Internazionale and Milan.

Raiola said: "We are talking to Manchester United [and] we know there is the interest of Juventus. I had a very good meeting with the club – several, yesterday also. It's obviously not my decision, it's the player's and that's it. It was absolutely a good meeting with Manchester United, yes."

Will Pogba wait until the end of the season to take the decision? "No, I think he'll make the decision when his heart and head is ready to make the decision and there is no date fixed on that," said Raiola, who added that United have not told the player they require a decision by July for the new pre-season. "Manchester United is behaving like a true gentleman's club, giving the boy all the space to decide. They know it is a difficult decision and [he is] a young boy. So it doesn't make any sense and wouldn't be right to pressure."

Pogba's wage demands have led to the impasse, with the midfielder wanting a deal in the region of £15,000 to £20,000 per week, although Raiola denied Juventus have made a firm offer. "No. Let me tell you it's not true," he said. "Now, we didn't have negotiations yet with Juventus because we think first the boy has to decide what he wants to do. It doesn't make sense to go around saying this or that. You make a decision and then you sit down and you come to a deal.

"Paul has to decide for himself what he wants to do. Manchester United is a fantastic club, I think it's one of the best, if not the best in the world, for various reasons. And it's very difficult for a boy who has an opportunity to go to clubs to leave a big club as Manchester United, or to leave the interest of other clubs. I know that is difficult and a very hard [decision] to make and it can be career deciding, because you make a decision now and you only know when you're 35 if you make the right decision."

Raiola would not be drawn on what Pogba believes are the advantages of staying with United or joining Juventus. "I don't think that's an answer that I have to provide. This is something within him and he has his own decision to make and his own criteria," he added.

Here it is again. You can now see why Pogba is still getting picked even though he's still not signed his deal. It explains why its taking so long and why Pogba has still not signed dispute saying he wants to stay. I reckon this is genuine from the agent.

To be fair to Railoa (who's got dog's abuse in this thread - from me, amongst others) he comes across well with what he says there.

He's talking shite, though. Clearly he has an offer, regardless of what he says. He wouldn't be doing his job properly if he didn't know what Pogba could earn by leaving.

It's just P.R bullshit, as usual.

To be fair he will tell everybody what they want to hear.

It really makes none of this any easier to understand.

To be honest who gives one. Pogba could be great but its not like there arent plenty of other potential greats out there either. If he dont wanna play for us he can move on. There's plenty more out there who do.

Saga.Boring.End.Soon.Please.

I've a feeling he was telling the truth. Obviously there could be some sort of offer from Juve, but maybe not an official one. I think we are just leaving Pogba to decide, hence he seems genuinely happy to be here but has still not signed yet. He's probably taking all the time he has to make sure he's doing the right thing.

But why should anyone take months to decide between two job offers?

As I see it there are only two possibilities. He's either got an agreement in place with Juve and is waiting to leave OT before announcing it. Or he's postponing his decision until the last possible moment in the hope that better offers materialize, either from us, or Juve, or some other club. If the latter is true, it's very cold-blooded from a 19 year old.

Edit: I suppose he might be trying a assess his chances of making a quick breakthrough into United's first team. Although his performances with the reserves don't bode well.

Maybe he wants to see who we buy and sell/retire in the summer to decide if he would have enough opportunities here before committing himself.

I guess.

Pretty cool for a nineteen old though. It's not as if football contracts were written in blood. If he had any feeling for United, I'd expect him to sign the deal and look to make his breakthrough next season. If that didn't happen, he could move on the following summer.

how close was he?

the deal was nearly done. He was going to go as a free transfer, he had agreed with Juventus and they also provided him with a house. Thank god United decided to go beyond the 100k a week barrier or we would have lost him.

Supporters tend to bear no grudges. There were players who stalled from signing contracts (and they had the cheek to do so after getting suspended for months) and others who claimed that the club is not ambitious enough and guess what? Everything is forgotten. As I said before, if Pogba does sign with United then I wont be surprised if Pogba ends up being used once again as the reason why we wont bring in a new CM. Thats how football work.

We didn't give him £100k a week if you mean pounds, I am pretty sure of that. I think it was £50k a week.

If he signs, he signs. If he doesn't - then good luck to him. You won't find a bigger club, or one more willing to use young players.

There will be plenty more talent to come through, and many that will want to play for us than move.

To be fair to Railoa (who's got dog's abuse in this thread - from me, amongst others) he comes across well with what he says there.

To be fair to him he wants both him and his client to get the best deal possible out of the whole situation, which is basically the job he's been hired to do. Nothing particularly outrageous about that, it's only the fact that people generally don't like the influence agents have on their clients and the direction football has been heading in. Did players even have agents 30 years ago?

I could be wrong on that particular detail. Ill check
