Fergie called his failure to sign Gascoigne his biggest regret in football.

Gascoigne said 'I let him down and you don't let Sir Alex Ferguson down. It took six years - I wanted to speak to him and say sorry but I didn't have the bottle.'

EDIT: To be fair to Fergie it wasn't his fault.

Gascoigne simply wanted to go to Spurs over United - it had nothing to do with money. United had agreed the deal with Gazza - and Fergie went on vacation thinking everything was fine - and got a phonecall saying he had changed his mind and wanted to go to Spurs. But this happened during a time when Spurs were just as good as we were

Gascoigne said it himself that he was on his way to OT but spurs offered him 500/week more amd got him a house/fishing gear for his father and a sunbed for his sister and that changed his mind

are you sure they didn't offer him a can of lager, some chicken, a mobile phone and something to keep warm?

Really.

Ferguson recalled: 'We spoke to him the night before I went on holiday. He says 'Go and enjoy yourself Mr Ferguson, I'll be signing for Manchester United'.
'So I went on my holidays but Martin Edwards (then chairman) rang and said 'I've got some bad news - he signed for Tottenham. They bought a house for his mother and father in the north east and that swung it'.
'I think it was a bad mistake, and Paul admits it.'

Is it official yet or just the usual media bollox.

Still the media. Neither the Juventus or United official website are reporting anything but I won't be too surprised if something is announced not long after the season is over.

Won't be surprised if everything is clarified in tomorrow's Fergie Press Conference.

With his brother at the reserve final on MUTV now.

Maybe reading too much into it, but surely it's strange that he's visiting the reserve final when apparently his agent has told Gill by letter that he won't sign the extension.

wont be surprised if nothing is clarified for the next 3 months...

a load of bollox over an unproven youngster

Some doron salomon it tweeted that he's signing for juve on July 1st, he put a link from the daily mail there as well but I'm on my phone so I cant copy it.

Genuinely don't care any more.

Another quoteless article in the Daily Mail saying the Juventus deal is done and he'll move on July 1st. £20,000 a week.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2142537/Paul-Pogba-Juventus-confirmed-July-1.html

I have a feeling this will turn out the case. Not because of this Mail article but I just don't think if if he was going to stay with United he would have run down his contract like this. It's a big decision for the kid, no doubt.

I know he is an unproven youngster but considering our current policy is very much based on developing such players it would be a blow to lose Pogba and is not a great reflection on the club's transition that we could lose out to Juve. Morrison was different as he clearly did not have the attitude and was far to much hassle to keep anymore. Pogba would be a massive dissappointment. Whether he lives up to his potential or not, he's exactly the type of player the club's long term strategy is based around.

Not a bad refection of UTD at all. He wants first team football we don't think he's ready. He gets a promise and fat salary. He goes.

Only time will tell who loses on this deal.

Paul Scholes.

I take your point though. It's also interesting to see the likes of Sneijder and Nasri named as potential central midfield targets that we missed out on last Summer. For the love of god, they aren't central midfielders (!), or at least one has never played there and the other has made it quite clear that he doesn't want to. They were going to be number tens to provide what Fergie hoped he was going to get when he signed Berbatov.

God you clutch at straws...

I just find it all a bit strange that it drug on and on and on, then Raiola said they'd come to an agreement and now it seems that he was going the whole time.

I'd imagine Raiola created the impression that there was a chance he could stay with us in order to screw a little bit more out of Juve.

Moreover, with the way the whole thing evolved, united gave Pogba some appearances with the senior team, further strengthening raiola's hand during negotiations.

Are you ok mate?
Quoting your own post and then replying to it is not an healthy sign.

I've done that. And I'm perfectly normal. So the doctors tell me.

(between you and me I'm not sure they're actually doctors....one of them has a constant tic in his right eye......and I believe it's caused by the itchy 'human suit' he wears over his reptilian skin......I can't be sure of that of course)

I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case. I always felt he and his agent were making mugs of us.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, the fact that we failed to sign a midfielder doesn't mean we weren't trying.

You can say well we tried, but did we really try hard enough? Not for me, we seemed more worried about what wages we may have to pay, than seriously addressing any weaknesses.

Jones may have been necessary to stop others getting him, but tbh, was signing him more important than strengthening a midfield that was already our weakest area? That weakness was further compounded last summer when we lost the services of Scholes, Hargo, and O'Shea and had serious doubts about Fletcher.

Has Scholes not returned in Jan, god knows where we would have finished, but i doubt very much we would still have had a chance of winning the title on the last day. It is quite sobering really that a 38 yr old who had been retired for 6 months, can come back and still be so much better than anything else we have.

Little wonder we have performed so poorly in Europe this season with what we had at our disposal. Only one DM for all season, i mean come on! Can there be any top team anywhere who would risk leaving themselves so short? Let's hope, should we lose the title today, that it serves as a kick up the arse to Fergie, and a harsh reminder that 'making do' is simply not good enough.

There may be little value in the market, but there is even less value in going out of the CL so early, being embarrassed in the Europa league, and potentially ending the season trophyless.
