Arsenals chances of a top 4 finish this season

It's funny how we see Newcastle these days.

They used to be an arrogant bunch of Best Fans in the World™ but dropping out of the Premiership and being a genuine average team for a few seasons around the relegation zone has seemed to make them a bit more realistic in their sights. I'd love to see them in the Top 4 ahead of the Chavs and Goons.

Given Roman's obsession with winning the Champions League, Chelsea not even being able to enter next year would be pretty hilarious.

He'd probably have AVB taken out, just like all those poor Russian feckers who got in the way of his success over the years.

Always been an exaggerated stereotype perpetuated by the media and only really speaks for a small minority. I'm sure Marching will back me up on this.

Trust me, when you haven't won any trophy since 1969 and a domestic one since 1955 you get worn down to apathy by mediocrity and perpetual false dawns. Pretty much everybody of the older generation tend to be as cynical and as negative as they come up here and the younger generation (myself) are no different to any set of fans in the country. I'd say there is a pressure and atmosphere that might be slightly different to other clubs but the idea that we expect success is bizarre and nonsensical and certainly not something I have at any point experienced. Hey, we'd like success and tbh after the punishment we've been through maybe we do deserve a bit. There are numerous 'smaller' clubs that have won stuff since the 50s.

That said, we are the best club in the world. Just as any fan thinks that about their own club.

It's cruel and churlish to single out posts when so many made poor predictions but this one was just too curious to ignore, given who wrote it:

I swear, if someone had predicted Arsenal's transfers before the summer, everyone would have told him to get the feck out. There would be no way anyone could preside over such a disaster, almost deliberate sabotage, of a transfer summer. It simply wouldn't have been believable.

No its not cruel and churlish. Its pretty much nail on head - and the reason we can't trust Dalglish with any more money.

Arsenal have deserved 3rd place this season. The league table doesn't often lie. But one player scoring shedloads of goals can hide a multitude of dodgy buys. Torres and Gerrard would do it for us repeatedly. Luckily for you Wenger is sorting out next season quickly with some 'good' early purchases.

Our lack of goals has highlighted how sh*t our purchases have been, Suarez scoring more goals would not have changed this fact. At least the mass myopia has cleared. :(

They havent a hope in hell of third. West brom will beat them. They will bottle it as usual. If Newcastle beat Everton they will be 5th which is 50/50. They are in serious serious trouble.

Heh. I stand by the comment. I still think it was a dreadful summer for Arsenal. It's basically a testament to Wenger's managerial ability (and Van Persie) that they are where they are now.

I may not have realised I was the pot talking about the kettle, but that's another matter.

I don't think they are bottlers when it comes to things like that though, trophies yes, but they have always done enough to give their fans a bit of hope. They are like Liverpool in that respect. I expect them to clinch 3rd, at worst 4th and Chelsea to lose to Bayern.

I'm going to put a double on of Arsenal coming 3rd and Chelsea beating Bayern. It's like some sort of Premiership Law of Phsyics that Arsenal and Chelsea get into the top 4.

They got very lucky. The West brom reserve keeper was a joke. They got lucky with Foster getting injured. Anyway when RVP leaves for City it will all be over for them I think.

Fair play, really didn't see it happening, bloody Van Persie! I'll get in touch by PM when I get home this evening so infant get on my banking. How do we donate to the Caf?

I wouldn't blame Van Persie so much as the likes of Chelsea and Spurs. Looking at Arsenal's results since Arteta got injured it's amazing they finished where they did.

Yup since Arteta got injured, balance was disrupted and we managed to take just 3 points of 4 matches before West Brom.
Thankfully Newcastle & Spurs dropped more points to keep us ahead of them.
After draw against Norwich, we were destined behind Spurs or worse outside Top 4.
Thankfully City stuufed Newcastle & Spurs bottled it.

And Thank you for West Brom's reserve keeper.
Am sure he had cost less than that Lasagne Chef.

Not a chance in hell Arsenal will finish top 4 in this sort of state.

Liverpool are much better balanced and better managed. Shame it will be the cnuts back in the UCL.

fecks sake. :wenger:

TBF to myself Arsenal did look horrendous in August and Liverpool looked decent.

:D

You bastards. I knew it, no keeper makes those kinds of mistakes in one game...

If they manage to qualify for the europa league then it'd have been a very good season for them as being part of the top4 will be virtually impossible.

Completely and absolutely no chance. Nada! They will play in the Europa League next season.

they might not even make the europa league on this showing.

I've said it before. they wont finish 4th just because they are arsenal. liverpool will give them a bloody tough fight and i actually expect them to finish just ahead of arsenal.

Liverpool should finish 4th quite easily the way things are going

Arsenal will be lucky to finish in the top 6.

Might finish behind Stoke.

I think Liverpool are favourites for 4th, followed by Arse

To be fair, everyone got wrong that day, bar adexkola.
They will finish 4th4th at least.

8-2 & 4-3 are the results which would depress the most optimistic of Arsenal fans.
Strangely though, this season kind of brought unity among Arsenal fans.
