Shinji Kagawa | Signs for Manchester United

To be fair I doubt he could tell him too much about Arsenal considering he hasn't been apart of the squad/set-up for long anyway. Though Wenger can speak Japanese & German, and we have two other German speakers in the squad too... Could really work in our favor there.

Just read that Arsenal are now favourites for him...gonna be a long summer.

He's at a more successful club now, with just as much chance, if not more, of winning the CL. Dortmund have a better squad than Arsenal. It would be at best a step sideways for Kagawa to join Arsenal. He really would be reducing his chances of winning trophies.

Which is why they didn't get out of the group stages, meanwhile we beat them in said group stages.

Bigger club and can offer more money, in a league that he wants to move to. With City around now the same thing could be said about United too.

Dortmund have won more trophies in the last 7 weeks than Arsenal in the last 7 years, so I doubt he'll be particularly impressed by Arsenal progressing slightly further in this season's Champion's League.

If all he's interested in is the biggest wage on offer I doubt Arsenal could tick that box either.

I'm just saying he'd also do wonders for you on the pitch which would lead to good financial times via wining trophies ....

yea..im his fan boi

I agree. Obviously he'd be a cash cow as far as a marketing position is concerned. Not to mention that he's a fantastic player no doubt, and would be a great addition for any PL club.

I think he'll join United though if Ferguson really wants him.

And he won more than United this season. Not to mention went just as far in the CL as United did too. Who knows what will happen next season bar City being the outright favourites for all and sundry in England - and fair enough.

I said bigger wages, which is true. If he wants the biggest wages then United will trump the other interested parties... But there are plenty of reasons why he could potentially see Arsenal as a good destination to move to in order to further his career. Having said that surely if United are really keen he will move there. He's a United fan too, no?

True... City have pretty much taken it that next step and ruined it for everyone.

Hopefully Hazard realises he won't get his silly money at City and chooses to move to United instead. Would be a slap in the face of City trying to go more 'legit,' and hopefully pave the way for Kagawa to join us.

If anything, Arsenal might be able to offer him a more guaranteed first-team role, particularly given the formation they like to play (with three midfielders). He'd slot right in instead of Arteta, with Song and Wilshere being the other two. Not to mention that I suspect London has a much higher Japanese population than either Manchester or Dortmund.

I'd be gutted if we missed out on him, though; he looks a real gem of a player.

They have Ramsey, Roscisky also for central midfield position. Let's not forget Diaby.

Diaby can most certainly be forgotten. This is the kind of guy that would get injured on the massage table.

According to Kicker, a reliable source, we made our first official offer, but the asked price of 17m € was not reached.
Real Madrid interested in Kagawa as well, but he would still prefer a move to England.

Sounds like general negotiating tactics. This will be done soonish I reckon.

Plus Chamberlain has been played centrally. Then you have that other Japanese lad. Doesn't he play a similar role?

Arsenal have Kagawa-like players coming out their ears.

Which isn't by any means a reason Wenger wouldn't buy him, on the contrary it's his favourite position to buy for.

In terms of money (wages and potential endorsements in Japan thanks to United), opportunity in the team and hence of silverware it's a pretty easy decision for him IMO.

Harsh, but fair. Still think he is a very talented player.

Exactly. How many attacking midfielders do Arsenal need?

Wenger might well be interested. I was responding to the idea that he can offer Kagawa "a more guaranteed first team role" than we could at United.

There is a fresh article in goal.com that says that we bid an offer of 13M for him. Goal.com is not the most reliable source but in last year they have improve their credibility, for example now no-one has bought Hazard yet, while if that was 2 years ago he would have been sold every day.

Oh right, well if they managed to keep RVP, I could see that being a fantastic partnership with Kagawa deep off him. In fairness Wenger is less of a tinkerer than Fergie so if he did sign him he'd be a member of their team rather than a typical United squad player.

Already been reported in Kicker, a German paper which is supposed to be reliable.

Goal.com is not really a source. Rarely write there own stuff. They are a good website for gathering news stories from around the world and translating them...

It was Dortmunds first run in the Champions League for quite some time with a very young squad. Both City and Ourselves went out in the group stages but that doesn't mean Arsenal are bigger or better (although I believe Arsenal are bigger than City, just not better).

Dortmund are a massive club and two successive titles and cups in a strong league puts them above Arsenal, their recent success dwarfs yours. They may not pay as much but Kagawa wants to move upwards and at Arsenal he's less likely to add to his winners medals collection.

Not quite how it works. Dortmund are considerably better than Bayern but Bayern went on to outplay Chelsea in the final. Cup competitions don't always accurately reflect team quality and if you think Arsenal are a better team you're kidding yourself.

Arsenal may be bigger historically but Dortmund have a bigger fanbase and a better chance of winning trophies nowadays.

A bigger fanbase domestically for sure. Not globally though.

Not sure if Arsenal are bigger historically? Dortmund have actually won the CL and have a great history.

Moving to Arsenal would be a step sideways in most aspects except for the pay packet.

Tempory omission. They would have won 8 in the 30s if it had been around!

You think? Where would Podolski fit in?

Why would Kagawa be a "member of their team rather than... a squad player" but not Podolski?

If anything, the opposite is more likely. They've only got one decent striker but a shit-load of attacking midfielders.

Miyiachi is strictly a winger (well it seems that way anyway). But good shout about Chamberlain, Wenger himself said he sees him as a midfielder in the future.

No doubting his talent, hopefully he can pull a Van Persie and fulfil his potential however late.

You think? Where would Podolski fit in?

Why would a Kagawa signing have any effect on Podolski? Podolski will play on the left like he does for Germany.

Kagawa will go where Rosicky has been playing recently, just ahead of Song(could be M'Vila should that come back on again) and Wilshere with a fit team.

Dropping Arteta would be kind of stupid, with the positive influence he's had on them in the season just gone.

Wenger needs to splash out on defenders, in the same way we need to splash out on midfielders. As has already been pointed out, Arsenal already have great midfield options and with Podolski they now have their RVP backup sorted.

Arteta seems to mostly play where Wilshere will go though. Kagawa would play where Ramsey and Rosicky mostly played. Artetas a nice backup to have though, assured and experienced and solid albeit not special, so he'll still get plenty of time, and well still be a starter until Wilshere returns fully.

Kicker reports that the Reds have had a bid for Shinji Kagawa rejected with Borussia Dortmund seeking around €20million for the midfielder. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke informed Bild that Manuel Neuer's switch last year to Bayern Munich for around €22million, with only a year left on his contract too, should act as a guide to the price. MUFC.com

Redcafe member Sir A1ex informed Borussia Dortmund that Hans-Joachim Watzke is talking shit and he knows it. One was about the most sort-after goalkeeper in world football, the other is not.
