Kicker reports that the Reds have had a bid for Shinji Kagawa rejected with Borussia Dortmund seeking around €20million for the midfielder. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke informed Bild that Manuel Neuer's switch last year to Bayern Munich for around €22million, with only a year left on his contract too, should act as a guide to the price. We'll pull out at that price I'd imagine and probably rightfully so.

Unlike what most think, transfer price isn't dictated by the length of the contract if more than one club is involved. If only one club is involved the threat of the player waiting out his contract and moving on a bosman in real, if more than one club is involved then it's likely an agreement will be reached as neither club would risk trying to leave it to a bosman if another club is happy to pay his value.

I hope we won't shy away because of an extra €3 million.

It's Euro. In Pounds it's something like 16-17m, when according to reports we've offered around 13m. Hardly a reason to pull out.

The gap isn't big, Dortmund are willing sellers. A deal will be done if we want it.

‎Manchester United have lodged a £13.6 million bid for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa!

We're probably waiting for the player to say he wants to come to us then and go back with a stronger negotiating hand.

It's the worst website ever created as far as I'm concerned.
Full of attention whore liars spouting bollox just for some approval that they never got from their mother!

Lol everyone was predicting that amidst the flurry of Hazard speculation, we'd most likely end up with Kagawa. Now that the bid rumors are starting, people are skeptical..

Also according to Kicker a reputable German Sport Magazine no figure mentioned but does say that United haven't offered what BVB want yet.

After being in (confirmed) contact with the player, I'd say the fact we have started negotiations with them is a positive sign on how talks with the player went.

Wonder if this bid has been lodged because we've got word of bad news on the Hazard front?

Considering we have apparently be working on the deals simultaneously I very much doubt it. I think we are in for both. We put thought into all our transfers and lots of work in weeks ahead. I can't see us working on both deals for the last few weeks with the intention of dropping one.

goal.com is not necessarily an exclusive source. They're basically Transfer News Central just as a website

Never said they were, they just ran it as a top story this morning. It's were all the numbers today have come from.

A cross between Freud and an lions roar.

Brilliant. People are in fine fettle today really nailing my every thought. I'm off to the i'm drunk thread but cheers for that. :)

Kagawa & Hazard in. Berbatov, Park, Owen, and probably Macheda out. It makes sense. Hope we wrap up these two signings as soon as possible before moving for a holding midfielder and a LB.

Strikers out, creative playmakers in. Think we can see where our tactics will shift.

Agreed, since it's so simple to get them we could maybe try and nab Messi and Ronaldo while we're at it.

Hazard's fee is agreed, and Fergie is keen on Kagawa, not unrealistic at all. In 2008 you would have said the same thing but we went on to sign two exciting young players wanted in all Europe, a world class striker in Tevez and the best England player in WC 06 : We won the Champions League. We will need the same kind of investment this summer to push City all the way.

Mouthwatering isn't it.

It means we don't need to bring in a midfielder as well although I think we will.

That was incredibly different though. Tevez came for a 2-year loan deal for £10m, while Hargreaves was signed for just under £20m if I remember correctly. Both of them combined cost less than what either one of these players will probably cost if we get them. We could get one, but I just can't see us signing both, and completely ignoring the fact that we need an out and out central midfielder.

Anderson, Nani, Tevez and Hargreaves cost us more than €85m in total.I do not remember exactly the players that were sold to balance the books but we could get Kagawa, Hazard, CM + Cover for Evra for more or less the same amout, maybe £10m more.

So we may be signing two high profile players that will be in direct competition for teh same place???

Both can play wide but want to play centrally. neither can play deeper in midfield. Does seem like a bold move fro Fergie.

I really doubt we'll sign both.

The Kagawa deal will cost us nothing in the end. We will probably make huge profits on commercial deals with Japaneese company's, same as we did with PJS.

I've only seen him play a few times for Dortmund. He is a really skillful player, and just fun to watch. Dortmund were great to watch too.

Hazard is someone I never expected us to sign, so losing out on him wouldn't be that bad. But losing out on Kawaga, someone we have been constantly linked to, would suck

Wasnt that the year we sold Smith, Heinze, Rossi and Richardson for a total fee of £25 mil - or am I mixing the years here ?

You got it wrong. It would be worse losing Hazard because he is the better player. Just because we weren't linked to him doesn't mean we can't sign him.
