Always find it funny that the same people most likely to piss and moan about us being taken to the cleaners by the transfer fees we pay, will also be up in arms if we ever get priced out of a deal. Make your cocking minds up.

The fee quoted according to someone on this thread is up to 22million Euros which (i think) equates to approx £20 million?

In response - I think you overestimate sentiment. Clubs know that football is a business. Dortmund will be taking players from other clubs in the same way. It's the way of the world. Everyone understands this.

Also - he may may not wish to pis Dortmund off - but he'll most likely (as most footballers) wish to look after number one. If a deal does not happen this summer you think he'll be happy that they're holding him to ransom by asking for a huge fee when they paid so litte for him and potentially frustrating his dream move - and he probably feels he's paid them back enough with his performances since he joined.

Regardless - its all speculative and I didn't mean to take this point on. All I was saaying was that a poster suggested this was a great value signing. It may well prove to be.

Actually 22m euros is around 17-18m sterling. I stand to be corrected on that. When one consider the player's talent, age, and financial potential, then we all agree that its a bargain. Its not as if Dortmund are asking 40m for him, aren't they?

While I agree with you that football is a business these days I do think that we should do our outmost not to piss clubs off especially when they happen to have a team with great potential. I still remember Moratti's frustration in seeing Parma's players (who back in the day they used to produce alot of good players) opting for Juventus despite Inter being bigger spenders then la vecchia signora. The reason being that Juventus had a great relationship with Parma and had always been fair to them. I am not saying that if we do so, then we'll get Gotze for 3m. However, if the fee is right, then Dortmund may prefer dealing with us who had been fair with them rather then with some club whom they know nothing about or had treated them like shite.

It has to be said, that he should generate a huge amount of revenue in his home area for United should the deal go though. Quite often with these big deals things like this come into the ROI thinking.

True that.

We'll make that money back in no time through Japanese endorsements and merchandise.

That's probably one Asian country where there's real money to be made, rather than the 5 million counterfeit Man United tops you see in Bangkok.

1. rooney can play a deep role, but his ball control let's him down. he can pick out a pass, but i still don't think he is a natural when it comes to working in tight spaces.
2. will kagawa get 7 if he signs?
3. kagawas role is perfect in a 4-3-3, being the most attacking of the midfield three. or the guy behind rooney in a 4-4-1-1. that means when owen and berba leave. we don't sign a striker. i am ok with that. we will have two as back up. else kagawa and one of chicha/wlebeck as backup.
4. when berba leaves, who get's 9? welbeck?

To be honest, I'd much rather a ball winning passer than Cleverley alongside Carrick. A Martinez or a cheaper equivalent.

A cheaper option than Martinez would possibly be Sahin from Madrid. I actually think Sahin would be the better option too personally. His passing range is far superior imo, and he is more an all round midfielder than Martinez.

Although i am not knocking Martinez whatsoever. I would be delighted if we got him, but it looks too costly and complicated a deal to be hopeful of success.

Sahin on the other hand, is out of favour at Madrid and they paid only £8m for him last year. A £20m bid from us would be an absolute snip for a player of Sahin's all round ability, and Madrid would be doubling their money after only 12 months on a player they don't really need.

Everyone's a winner in my scenario! :D,

It's nice that posters are still relying on Fletch. He'll never be the same player again imo.

Replace Martinez with Clev/Scholes/Anderson.
Replace the vacant LB with Evra.

We are done :D

isn't sahin a more carrick or alonso kind of player? you are suggesting that he is in the mould of khedira/obi mikel etc with passing skills. i am not sure about this. but if what i thought was right, then i don't see the point of another carrick.

Aside from the player himself and his undoubted talent, it will be quite interesting to sign a player from the Bundesliga.

I can't remember the last time we did and it's always seemed like an untapped goldmine. Hopefully we're keeping better tabs on it these days.

style wise kagawa looks like a silva kind of player. but when i look at his stats from last season, he seems like a dempsey kind of player.
which one is he?
if he can play the dempsey kind of role, then, kagawa, martinez and a LB will make a perfect summer.
we need a good squad with balance. city and chelsea will be scary next season.

I hope we use 4-2-3-1 more often next season and allow the 4 attackers the freedom to interchange positions and have fluidity.

If we get a DM midfielder (preferably Martinez) he could play alongside Carrick in the tougher games with Scholes/Cleverley coming in for one of Carrick/DM in the 'easier' games.

We'd still have the option of 4-4-2 to use in some games but a 4-2-3-1 could give us the opportunity to create attacks down the wings and central areas whilst having the defensive protection to ensure we're not overrun in midfield and the defence is not exposed.

With Fletcher or Martinez in there at all, it looks a bit overly optimistic to me. We do need that extra holding player though, no doubt about it, although whether it will be one of those 2 i would have my doubts.

I also have serious doubts about Rooney being effective up front on his own. For me he has neither the pace, the height, nor the strength to play that role. Please nobody bring up 2009, yes he had a great season up front that year, but he looks nowhere near that player these days and it has been a long, long time since he has played well in that role.

I would not be confident at all with any formation with Rooney up front on his own.

What makes you think Chelsea will be scary? I think they are looking at 3rd spot at best.

Torres will be main man, there's a problem in itself.

i don't expect them to have two poor seasons in the league.
i expect torres to find form, if he has someone like hazard playing centrally behind him.

----------------torres-----------------
-----------mata/hazard----------------
-mata/hazard-------------------ramires
---------lampard------obi mikel--------
--cole-----terry------cahill------ivanovic

looks strong to me. they can also play ramires in place of lamps and use a winger on the right
they always will get re-enforcement to have the depth. replace the likes of drogba, kalou etc.
if they get a good right back and play ivanovic centrally. i think they have a good defence too.

Ouch, at least I wear the real ones... 3, 40 pound shirts are equal to some ppls monthly salary down there so don't blame them.

I like the look of that. Still have some concerns regarding Rooney upfront on his own, but that is not bad at all.

though this comment a little offensive and inaccurate. it makes a good point.
i will take india's example to illustrate:
40 pounds for you guys does not mean the same as Rs. 3600 in india. I have bought kits both in the US(when I was earning in the US) and India(when I was earning in India). Even though on direct currency conversion they were the same price. but buying it in india hurt the pocket more. this should change:D

I think India is a good market too. Especially cause of the numbers we have. The rich class and the rising middle and upper-middle class, do have the money to spend. And with the lower percentages but huge numbers, India should be a good market.
Just recently. 3 united stores have opened up in Bangalore. 3, and bangalore is tiny in comparison to Delhi and Mumbai.
Pity we can't even dream of producing even a Darren Gibson.

People get too hung up on shirt sales when discussing the marketing value of players. It's not about selling shirts, it's being able to tell the major sponsors how much exposure their brand will get in different territories.

The number of shirts Kagawa might sell in Japan isn't a big deal, the number of Japanese who will see the logo/brand on his shirt is much more important.

makes sense. I was just trying to make a point to bring the prices here in India down :-)

I don't know what to make of this guy, good stats and looks good on YouTube highlights, but never been blown away when watching him properly. Seemed to get ushered off the ball quite easily and that.

NOOOOOOOOO. if you are right, then I like this potential signing a lot less.
No sarcasm here
