Wtf?! I had to scroll down to see the Kagawa thread! Has he signed for City?

I disagree. Carrick on for me is as good as a Busquets.

Why can't he tease us a bit? Claiming there are more clubs involved in a race for his signature, for example? Saying that Liverpool winning the COC has to be taken into account when choosing his club? Claiming that he'll announce which club he's signed for live on worldwide tv after the next Japan-match?

Please Shinji give us something to feed off. We need you, now more than ever.

Oh, I knew it. It was too good to be true.

Cheap, technically brilliant, quick, creative, doesn't care about money, flogs shirts like frog legs in Asia..

Then it turns out he's got a fecking Tom Cleverley-esque website.

On to the next one then. Now where did I put the thread about us signing Shaun Derry?

Check out "Shinji's voice" !

Why would we want to copy the strategy of a football team we aren't as good as? You seriously think the way to beat Barcelona is to employ the same strategy?.
It isn't employing the same strategy. Its rather a case of giving our attacking players a platform to attack and defend in packs. Without ceding midfield control to anyone.

United should, and will, carry on doing what we do best. Attack teams down the flanks. The squad is built to do that and its been a very effective and successful way of playing for this club. Its the United way.
I have not proposed a formation that is wingless nor width-less. That should be pretty obvious to anyone paying attention.

I haven't really checked this thread as I have thought it is only a matter of time since day one.

1) Our only competition appears to be Arsenal who happen to be the only club who are half decent that we can beat to transfers

2) He's Japanese, young and one- year contract. Very Glazernomical.

Deal's off.

Guy's got a website dwarfing Cleverley's. One section is called "Shinji's voice".

I'm half expecting there to exist a trading card game in his honour.

Glad we're pulling out TBH.

I just want us to wrap this up now so us muppets can get onto the next one.

Is there a next one? SAF has already said we are not going for a holding player as he doesn't use them. So where else do we need to sign anyone?

Michael Carrick has played 273 games for Manchester United.

Sometimes Fergie's just taking the piss, thinking everyone's stupid.

He's not really a holding player, he just is the more defensive player, if he had someone else who could cover for him he could offer a lot going forward. I think Fergie meant more in terms of we're not looking for a specialised holding midfielder such as De Jong.

It's just Fergie's definition of a holding player. Both Carrick and Scholes could be classified as a sort of holding player.

What he means is the club haven't used a proper "destroyer", a Makelele-type of player. Which is obviously wrong, because he signed Hargreaves.

He won't hesitate to bring in a Carrick-type of CM if the right one's avilable, I hope. But he wants them to be able to contribute offensively as well I think.

Carrick could contribute offensively if he had someone who could cover effectively for him.

Yup, which is my and Fergie's point.

Although Hargreaves is arguably the one time he's brought a midfielder in for the sole purpose of shielding the defence - didn't excactly work out though.

Carrick is not a proper holding midfielder. He can play the role of one if need be, but he's more of a proper centre mid and is used as one as well pretty much all of the time.

I don't think Hargreaves was bought for that at all, when he played CM he didn't just sit a la Makelele. And a good portion of his games were on the right.

SAF is right, he doesn't play a holding player in the Makelele ilk.

Hargreaves was quite poor as I remember it in CM. He did a better job at RM and RB actually. Never quite "got" Hargreaves as a midfielder.

Who do you think he'll bring in? he'll surely have to sign another proper midfielder..

Yeah, though I think he got him more for his box to box play then as a defensive midfielder.

I didn't think he was poor in CM, he had some cracking games in there with Anderson. He had some very average ones too, we never really had him fit long enough to see how that would've worked out.

I hope like hell that he signs another midfielder but it'll depend on his formation. If he does go.

Code:
[CENTER]Carrick [I][B]CM2[/B][/I]

   Kagawa
Valencia Nani
   Rooney[/CENTER]

Then CM2 can be any of Cleverley, Anderson, Scholes.

If he really is going for that formation, I wouldn't be surprised if he ignored midfield again. I'd be gutted, but not surprised.
