But i have my doubts personally. If he thought Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs and Carrick was enough for last season, now we have Scholes on top of that, why should his thinking this year be that much different?
Well you'd hope he'd realize that Giggs and Scholes are yet another year old and that Cleverley and Anderson, despite their potential are made of glass.

Not with Carrick in the position he is, no. He's just not mobile enough to cover that much space all by himself.
He'd simply be covering the back 4 alone only when we have the ball. For all the attacking midfielders dropping back to support him when we lose the ball.

Don't think so. It looks like too attacking a team and Carrick could be exposed in there. I'd be wetting myself if we were to come up against a team while playing that way who apply high pressure to us; one of our weaknesses.
When we look at formations on a screen we see nothing but straight lines and only a few possible positions available, it could be more like this and you wouldn't really notice it.

That's true. Formations are only the start of a teams tactics, but even at that, the lineup shown wouldn't inspire me with confidence. Rooney would be able to drop back to help out Carrick a lot, but that would probably end up reducing his overall impact in our attack, as we saw with him earlier in the season when he played in the midfield. That's not to say that he wasn't good there, because he was, but I just think that it stops him from being the deadly attacking force he can be, not to mention the goals return you'd lose as well if he dropped back.
Lol no one is mobile enough to do that role. The movement in the past 10 years or so has been to more defensively strong playersZ no one plays with player holding the fort.

Look how much wider mine is! Hes changed it a bit in response to my comment, originally he didn't have any full backs and only one winger.
Bale will provide the width with Rooney cutting inside.
Drawing out formations like that is just about as pointless as football discussion can get.

What? No I had Rafael and Evra from the start. Also Valencia and Nani so obviously they were going to be wingers. As I mentioned I didn't expect my phone to autoformat from how it looked when posting it.
It's essentially what happens anyway when Carrick is partnered with anyone other than Scholes. I'd love to see that line-up. I think Kagawa and Welbeck would be great together. It would be interesting to see how Cleverley would do there as well if Rooney were injured/rested. The one touch passing between those 3 and Nani could potentially be fantastic.
You more of a 442 man? I can see it has it's strengths but times are changing.

No point drawing it, we all know what a 4-2-3-1 looks like because a lot of teams play it and its very descriptive. Kagawa plays in this formation currently, in what is imo the key position, he specialises in it and its more than likely that he'll continue to play there for us.
He may not be a guaranteed starter though, perhaps he'll be tasked with earning a place with the initial idea that it gives more options of how to use Rooney and we have someone to cover him very well behind a striker. It makes sense to sign him even then, because when we signed Berbatov he came in and played behind the stiker as he did with Keane. So now that hes finally on his way we have a bit more space in the squad for a player like that (and perhaps thats why we didnt go in for the likes of ozil as hard as we have with Kagawa. Timing). What gives me the idea that he might have to earn his place is that Sir Alex told Shinji that it would be a big challenge for him coming to the premier league. So maybe he'll be given time to settle and prove he's up to the challenge, before ousting Welbeck/Hernandez, whoever starts the season up there with Rooney.

Considering I made a thread about moving away from 4 midfielders and 2 strikers I'd say no.
Writing names into formations is pointless if you don't explain the role they are expected to play in each formation is what is pointless.
